This study investigated educational effects of soil play activities by analyzing the influence of soil play activities on children's nature-friendly attitudes and emotions. Fifty 5-year-old children enrolled in K-kindergarten in Y-city were randomly selected for the study. Assessment of nature-friendly attitudes and emotions was by 11 questions selected from Musser & Diamond's (1999) Pro-environmental Attitude Test (adapted by Lee, Hye Sun, 2006) and from Bar On and Parker's (2000/2001) Emotion Test, an Emotional Quotient Scale for Young Children. Results showed that children who participated in the Soil Play Activities program acquired more nature-friendly attitudes and emotions than the control group. In conclusion, soil play activities can improve nature-friendly attitudes and emotions of 5-year- old children.
Objectives: S-HTP is a projective test of cognitive activity. The purpose of this study was to examine the response characteristics in the S-HTP test as they related to seven emotions and cognitive processes. Methods: 153 students underwent S-HTP testing. 10 students were excluded and a total of 143 students' data was used for the study. 143 students were classified into four groups by SCAT. A survey was conducted on seven emotions and cognitive processes painting the Whole picture, house, tree, and person, and after receiving IRB review exemption, the chi-square test was conducted to check homogeneity of the groups by gender and age. Finally, frequency analysis by constitution for each item was conducted. Results: The reaction characteristics of S-HTP, focusing on the seven emotions and cognitive processes detailed by Korean Medicine, are as follows: 1. The primary sentiment while drawing during S-HTP was 'Joy (hui)' followed by 'Thought (sah)'. 2. The sentiments while painting during the S-HTP test, and the emotions of looking at the picture after the S-HTP test, increased in 'Joy (hui)' and decreased in 'Thought (sah)'. 3. 'Thought (Sah)' was the highest scored process while drawing S-HTP, followed by 'jee (智)'. However, 'ryeo (慮)' was similar to 'jee (智)' in an unclassifiable constitution. Conclusions: The primary characteristics of the S-HTP test response are 'Joy (hui)' and 'Thought (sah)' in emotion, and 'sah (思)' and 'jee (智)' in cognitive processes. Therefore, it is necessary to verify this during the S-HTP test.
There has been a notable increased interest of the study of emotions in educational contexts. The purpose of this study was to analyze predicting emotional variables of self-regulated learning strategies and self-handicapping strategies with the university students. Participants were 143 students of undergraduates at A University and B University. Collected data were analyzed by correlation analysis and regression analysis, respectively. It turned out that class related emotions, learning related emotions, and test emotions predicted self-handicapping strategies negatively. However, achievement emotions didn't predict self-regulated learning strategies. The result of this study will provide the theoretical basis and practical usefulness of academic emotions.
Purpose: This study was to investigate the effects of upper meridian massage on cerebral blood flow, emotions, and sleep of the institutionalized elderly. Methods: This study was a nonequivalent control group pre- and post-test design. The participants were 50 elderly (26 in the experimental group; 24 in the control group) living in the institutions. Data were collected between July 9 and September 1, 2011. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, and $x^2$-test, Repeated Measures ANOVA, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficient. Each participant in the experimental group received the upper meridian massage for 10 minutes, 4 times per week for 2 weeks. Each participant's cerebral blood flow and self-reported questionnaires were tested before treatment, after 1 week and 2 weeks during treatment sessions. Results: There were significant differences in sleep and emotions after 1 week and 2 weeks during treatment sessions. But cerebral blood flow measured by common carotid artery pulsatility index (CCA PI) and common carotid artery resistance index (CCA RI) demonstrated significant differences in 2 week point in time. Conclusion: These results indicated that upper meridian massage could be an effective intervention for improving cerebral blood flow, emotions, and sleep of the institutionalized elderly.
Objectives The Purpose of this study was to conduct a characteristic study on cancer patients using the Core Seven Emotions Inventory (CSEI) followed by a correlation analysis with STAI, STAXI and BDI.Methods This study was conducted by analyzing the medical records of 21 patients who had visited ○○ University Oriental hospital and completed the Core Seven Emotions Inventory (CSEI), BAI, and BDI. A total of 21 patients diagnosed with Cancer were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science, IBM, United States of America, Version 22.0). Frequency Analysis, independent t-test, one-sample t-test, and correlation analysis were conducted. Results 1. The Seven Emotion Characteristics of the Cancer patients showed a fairly stable emotional Distribution. The Gong (恐) and Kyeong (驚) emotions were relatively higher than U (憂), Bi (悲), Sa (思), Hui (喜), No (怒). 2. According to Gender, Female patients exhibited higher Sa (思) and Kyeong (驚) emotions while male patients exhibited higher Bi (悲) Emotion. 3. No (怒), U (憂), Bi (悲), Sa (思), Gong (恐), and Kyeong (驚) emotions showed a high correlation with the BDI and BAI scores of cancer patients.
The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of children's perception of body shape and body image on their negative emotions. The subjects were 345 3rd and 6th graders. Questionnaires were used to investigate the children's perception of their body shape and body image, and negative emotions. Data analyzed by SPSS-WIN program included mean, standard deviation, ANOVA, Scheffe's test and regression. Results were as follows. (1) The 6th graders perceived their body image more negatively than the 3rd graders did. (2) The children who perceived themselves more obesely had more negative body image and more negative emotions than those who did not. (3) There were interaction effects among the children's grade, sex and body shape perception on their body image perception. (4) The regression analysis demonstrated that children's perception of appearance was more influential on the negative emotions than their body shape perception.
This study attempted to identify the relationships among perceived value (hedonic and utilitarian values), consumption emotions, and satisfaction. In addition, this study also tested the relationships of measurement items of these variables. The data were collected from American restaurant diners who have experienced any Asian restaurants within the last 30 days. A total of 435 responses was used for data analysis. Descriptive statistics, principal component analysis, reliability test, and regression analysis were utilized to analyze the data. The results found that hedonic value influenced positive emotions and satisfaction. Utilitarian value increased positive emotions and satisfaction while decreases negative emotions. In addition, positive emotions increased customer satisfaction; negative emotions decreased customer satisfaction. In the measurement level, traditional music, traditional aspects of food, and restaurant layout of hedonic value influenced positive emotions and interior design had an impact on customer satisfaction. On the other hand, food taste and healthy food option of utilitarian value influenced positive emotions and satisfaction; only food taste was negatively related to negative emotions. Managerial implications were provided.
The purpose of this study was to find out the psychological characteristics of the unemployed, and their children's negative emotions and behavioral changes in the context of the increasing family dysfunction caused by the IMF economic crisis. The subjects were 184 public labor workers in Busan. They answered the questions about the psychological characteristics of themselves and their children, and their children's behavioral changes. Frequency analysis, $\chi$$^2$ test and logistic regression were used for data analyses. The results were as follows. The unemployed showed high levels of negative emotions and perceived their social supports as low. As well, they interpreted their quality of life as poor. They perceived their economic difficulty as high and the perception was influenced by negative emotions as well as the economic situation. Children of the unemployed showed middle levels of negative emotions, and positive and negative behavioral changes. These changes were influenced by their parent's psychological characteristics. In light of these results, psychological counseling services from social welfare centers are needed to be more actively supporting the families of the unemployed.
This study examines the effects of university students' types of self-determination and academic emotions on their learning community participant competence. The subjects were 234 early-childhood preservice teachers attending a university or college in the Kyonggi and Incheon area of Korea. The first metric created by Bak et al. (2005) measured early-childhood preservice teachers' types of self-determination. The second metric developed by Kim & Kim (2016) measured their levels of learning community participant competence. The thirds metric, originally developed by Kim (2012) and So (2010), was modified by Chung (2015) to measure the academic emotions of subjects. The test results were analyzed by correlation and multi-regression techniques using SPSS 21 for Windows. The findings were as follows. First, there were significant relationships between the subjects' types of self-determination and the levels of learning community participant competence. Second, there were significant relationships between the subjects' academic positive and negative emotions and the levels of learning community participant competence. Third, the subjects' levels of learning community participant competence were perceived differently according to their academic emotions. Based on these results, implications pertaining to academic emotions on learning community participant competence are suggested.
