Studies on the Mackerel Purse Seine Operation in the Sea Area of Cheju Island - 1 . Model Experiment on the Changes of Net Shape in Stagnant Water - (제주도 주변해엽 고등어 포착망의 연구 - 1 . 정수에 있어서 망형 변화에 관한 모형실험 -)

  • In order to investigate the performance for the mackerel purse seine of one boat purse seiner using in the sea area of Cheju Island, a model net is made of the scale of 1/400 of its full scale, and model test on the shape of net and the tension of purse line is carried out in the stagnant water channel of the circulating water tank. Designing and testing for the model net are based on the Tauti's law. The obtained results are as follows; 1. The sinking rate of net is maximized the value of 6.40 m/min from 5 to 10 minutes after shooting net, and the mean value is 6.13 m/min. 2. The enclosed area formed with the float line after pursing operation is 76-84% of the area which is formed immediately after the shooting operation. At that time, purse seine is pulled inward the circle of surrounding net about 26.5% of the diameter. 3. In operating, when longitudinal section area of the central part of the net is maximized, the split area of both the wing-ends is 31-32% of the former. 4. When the time for the completing of pursing is 20 minutes, the maximum tension of the purse line is about 10.2 tons.

Catches characteristics between fishing area and non-fishing area in the shrimp beam trawl of Geoje waters, Korea (거제연안 새우조망 조업구역과 비 조업구역에서의 어획물 특성)

  • Experimental fishing was carried out to compare and analyze catch characteristics of shrimp beam trawl in a fishing area and a non-fishing area during the period of fishing season and off-fishing season in the coastal waters of Geoje. A commercial fishing boat (4.99 tons) was used for the test fishing. The amount of total catches were 14,654g in the fishing area and 12,359g in the non-fishing area, shrimp catches of non-fishing area were much greater than that of the fishing area during the period of off-fishing season (June and August). However, total catches were 27,670g in the fishing area and 33,004g in the non-fishing area, shrimp catches of fishing area were bigger than that of non-fishing area during the period of fishing season (October and December). On the results of the study, catches characteristics between fishing area and non-fishing area showed the reversed results for the period of fishing season and off-fishing season.

  • In the design process of ship or its comprising components, the key to the successful design is how to guarantee the structural safety satisfying the international standard and regulation, which sometimes is not clear enough to cover the detail designs. This study deals with the design procedure for submersible viewing window installed in catamaran. As the window material, the Plexiglass, a type of reinforced plastic, is considered to satisfy the design requirements of international standard. Window thickness is calculated using geometric nonlinear finite element analysis, in order to take into account possible large deformation due to low stiffness of the Plexiglass, and the results are compared with those determined by the procedure specified in ISO12216. Finally, for the validation of proposed design, the pressure test had been carried out following the procedure specified in the standard, and structural safety was checked.

  • In this paper, an automatic cruise system of unmanned boat was developed for surveying water depth in reservoir using accurate location information. Using global satellite navigation system(GNSS) data in real time, this unmanned system, combined with an echo sounder, can simultaneously collect location information and depth information on the reservoir. This automatic navigation system allows the automatic route generation program to automatically generate a cruise route according to the input conditions for grid sizes of 5m, 10m and 20m, and automatically controls the cruise route with high positional accuracy. The developed system was tested to verify the applicability of the selected Yonggok(Geoncheon) reservoir as a test reservoir located in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do.

  • The tug boat is restricted in her maneuvering ability due to the towed barge, and tug-barge have been strongly affected by the external forces, i.e. the wind, wave, currents, and so on. Therefore it is difficult to get the safety if tug-barge operation. In this study, we propose the basic method to develope the safety towing system for barge using portable GPS which is easily movable and relatively inexpensive. Then we have conducted the test on the real barge and discuss the results.

  • The long line fishing machine is combined with motor and two disc rollers has used on the small size fishing-boat under 1 ton located in near Jeollanam-do seaside. The long line fishing motor is controlled only one direction because the fishing line is loaded heavily at pulling up. On this paper we made the long line fishing 400W power motor controller which it was usually applied under 1 ton fishing boat, and designed the controller using PWM chip, Half bridge driver and MOSFET for one direction motor control. Furthermore some user convenience devices were added like battery indicator and safety protection circuit for battery overdischarge and battery source wire mismatch connection. So we protected the battery from overdicharging when the battery voltage was below 11.5V and fishermen didn't need to worry about source lines misconnection anymore. We confirmed the test version of controller was the good working condition at land and sea.

  • This study describes the result on PV system for evaluating the performance of small fishing boats. Photovoltaic system with 200 watts power generation facilities on the 3-ton fishing boat was carried. Load test was performed on the condition that the work lamps lit during night operations. As a result the performance can be used for more than two hours at 60 watt work lamps. The load test was performed on the condition that fishing vessels are on the cruising condition at sea. The solar power systems have been investigated as a power generation efficiency of about 36.55%. Additional tests show that the power generation efficiency is difficult to expect a maximum of 50% or more. Fuel consumption of fishing boats by installing a solar power system is reduced. Also the PV system is useful for the verification of their availability for fishing vessels as well as the satisfaction of the fishermen. The results for the durability of the photovoltaic device is acceptable, including a solar panel, controller and the performance exhibited no breakage in the harsh marine environment or failure so far. The installed PV system was confirmed that the durability with at least 2 years.

Buoy-launched Terminal Equipment and Ship-launched Gateway Equipment Based on LoRa for Identification of Fishing Gear (LoRa 기반 어구 식별용 부이 장착 단말 및 어선용 게이트웨이)

  • Ministry of oceans and Fisheries declared action plan for the electric fishing gear using real name in order to prevent overusing the fishing gear and to reduce discarded fishing gear. It is needed for a technique that can efficiently transmit the information including the type and location of the fishing gear and the user's real name to the fishing boat and the control center using IoT-based communication. In this paper, we propose the buoy-launched terminal equipment and ship-launched gateway equipment based on LoRa technology for effectively executing the electric fishing gear using real name. We design and fabricate to communicate 1(gateway):200(buoy) each other under 900 MHz ISM band by using SEMTECH SX1276 chip. Also, we experiment the test on the sea and analyze the test results to prove the implementation possibility of the proposed equipments for the electric fishing gear using real name.

An experimental study on characteristics of exhaust emissions with fuel properties changes in a diesel engine for small-sized fishing vessel (소형 어선용 디젤기관에서의 연료유 성상에 따른 배기배출물 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In order to test the applicability of bunker-A in a diesel engine for small-fishing boat, the investigation of the engine performance and the exhaust emission was performed under various conditions of fuel property, intake air pressure and fuel temperature. It was also performed based on IMO NOx Technical code. At high load, the energy consumption rate of bunker-A was lower than that of diesel oil, and the characteristics of exhaust emission of bunker-A were similar to those, and NOx emission rates of both fuels satisfied the IMO NOx emission regulation limits. The energy consumption rate and characteristics of exhaust emission were improved as the intake air pressure was increased, but these were not improved remarkably as the temperature of bunker-A was heated. However, at low load the energy consumption rate, CO emission rate and HC emission rate of bunker-A were higher than those of diesel oil, but NOx emission rates of the fuels were about the same. In addition, at low load the energy consumption rate and CO emission rate of bunker-A were increased as the intake air pressure and the temperature were higher than normal conditions. Accordingly, it is thought that the use of bunker-A in a kind of test engine is possible at high load. On the other hand, it is thought that more research is needed to improve the combustion efficiency under low temperature and low load condition.

  • A waypoint tracking algorithm(WTA) is designed for Unmanned Surface Vehicle(USV) in which water-jet system is installed for propulsion To control the heading of USV for waypoint tracking, the steering nozzle of water-jet need, to be controlled. Firstly, target heading is calculated by using the position information of waypoints input from the land control center. Secondly, the command for the steering nozzle of water-jet is calculated in real time by using the heading and the rate-of-turn( ROT) from magnetic compass, In this study, in order to consider the drift angle due to external disturbance such as wind and wave, the course of ground( COG) can be used instead of heading at higher speed than a certain value, To test the performance of newly-designed WTA, the tests were carried out in actual sea area near Gwang-an bridge of Busan. In this paper, the sea trial test results from WTA are analyzed and compared with those from manual control and those from commercial controller.
