Flexible CFD meshing strategy for prediction of ship resistance and propulsion performance

  • In the present study, we conducted resistance test, propeller open water test and self-propulsion test for a ship's resistance and propulsion performance, using computational fluid dynamics techniques, where a Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations solver was employed. For convenience of mesh generation, unstructured meshes were used in the bow and stern region of a ship, where the hull shape is formed of delicate curved surfaces. On the other hand, structured meshes were generated for the middle part of the hull and the rest of the domain, i.e., the region of relatively simple geometry. To facilitate the rotating propeller for propeller open water test and self-propulsion test, a sliding mesh technique was adopted. Free-surface effects were included by employing the volume of fluid method for multi-phase flows. The computational results were validated by comparing with the existing experimental data.

Evaluation of the added mass for a spheroid-type unmanned underwater vehicle by vertical planar motion mechanism test

  • This paper shows added mass and inertia can be acquired from the pure heaving motion and pure pitching motion respectively. A Vertical Planar Motion Mechanism (VPMM) test for the spheroid-type Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) was compared with a theoretical calculation and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis in this paper. The VPMM test has been carried out at a towing tank with specially manufactured equipment. The linear equations of motion on the vertical plane were considered for theoretical calculation, and CFD results were obtained by commercial CFD package. The VPMM test results show good agreement with theoretical calculations and the CFD results, so that the applicability of the VPMM equipment for an underwater vehicle can be verified with a sufficient accuracy.

Circular Motion Test를 이용한 선박의 조종성능 추정에 관한 연구 (Prediction of Ship Maneuverability by Circular Motion Test)

  • Recently, ship maneuverability has been very important issue due to accidents of frequent occurrence at sea. IMO standards for ship maneuverability were applied from January 1, 2004. In this study, maneuverability model tests were considered through a 2m-class KVLCC1 in the Ocean Engineering Wide Tank at University of Ulsan(UOU). Circular Motion Test(CMT) was performed to obtain the maneuvering coefficients by using X-Y Carriage. The trajectories simulated using the coefficients are compared with those of PMM test and free running test.

  • 본 논문은 임베디드 시스템이 제어하는 서브시스템의 실시간 피드백을 반영하여 테스트 케이스를 생성할 수 있는 테스트 생성기 구조를 제안한다. 일반적으로 폐쇄형 임베디드 시스템은 자신이 제어하는 서브시스템의 피드백을 참조하여 서브시스템의 다음 상태를 제어하는 값을 결정한다. 그와 같은 시스템에서는, 피드백을 고려하지 않는 전통적인 테스트 케이스는 사용하기 어렵다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 테스트 케이스 생성기 구조는 서브시스템의 피드백을 이용하여 다음에 사용할 테스트 케이스를 실시간 재구성한다. 제안하는 구조를 구현하고 데모 시스템을 이용하여 유용성을 검증한다.

  • A vertical planar motion mechanism(VPMM) test was used to increase the prediction accuracy for the maneuverability of an underwater glider model. To improve the accuracy of the linear hydrodynamic coefficients, the analysis techniques of a pure heave test and pure pitch test were developed and confirmed. In this study, the added mass and damping coefficient were measured using a VPMM test. The VPMM equipment provided pure heaving and pitching motions to the underwater glider model and acquired the forces and moments using load cells. As a result, the hydrodynamic coefficients of the underwater glider could be acquired after a Fourier analysis of the forces and moments. Finally, a motion control simulation was performed for the glider control system, and the results are presented.

경계 주사 구조를 이용한 새로운 실시간 모니터링 실장 제어기 설계 (A Design of New Real Time Monitoring Embedded Controller using Boundary Scan Architecture)

  • 경계 주사 구조(Boundary Scan Architecture)기 법은 복잡한 인쇄 회로 기판(PCB : Printed Circuit Board)을 테스트하기 위해 도입되었다. 이러한 경계 주사 구조는 시스템의 정상 동작에 간섭을 주지 않고 시스템의 동작 상태를 실시간 모니터링 하는데 대단한 잠재력을 지니고 있다. 본 논문에서는 경계 주사 구조를 이용하여 시스템의 작동 상태를 실시간으로 모니터 하기 위한 새로운 실장 제어기를 제안하고 설계한다. 제안된 실시간 모니터링 실장 제어기는 경계 주사 구조의 경계 주사 셀 제어기(Test Access Port Controller)와 범용 실장 제어기(Embedded Controller)로 구성되어 있다. 제안된 경계 주사 구조를 이용한 실시간 모니터링 실장제어기는 하드와이어의 자원을 절약해 주고 경계 주사 구조를 지니고 있는 칩에 쉽게 인터페이스 된다. 실험 결과는 제안된 실장제어 기가 시스템의 동작 상태를 실시간 모니터 하는데 호스트 컴퓨터에 의한 모니터 링에 비해 효과적임을 보여준다.

함정사업 시험평가의 효율적 수행방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on Efficient Test & Evaluation Methods in Naval Ship Acquisitions)

  • The purposes of this study is to identify the problems arising from current Test & Evaluation process of the naval ship acquisition program and to suggest methods to increase the acquisition efficiency. Considering that the present rule of developmental test &evaluation(DT&E) and operational test & evaluation(OT&E) has caused an inefficiency effect on the acquisition procedures due to the limited practices on it, the DT&E and OT&E procedures through test & evaluation master plan(TEMP) is proposed based on the selective practices of the defense instruction articles. Also, considering characteristics of naval ship acquisitions, efficient procedure systems are derived through case analysis results by comparing each performances of the system. The suggested methods are able to meet the requirements of the changed acquisition environments and also increase efficiency of acquisition systems by adoption of DT&E and OT&E combined test scheme.

  • Air gun shock system is used as an alternative energy source as part of the attempt to overcome the restrictions of economical expense and environmental damage, etc., due to the use of explosives for the UNDerwater EXplosion (UNDEX) shock test. The objectivity of this study is to develop the simulation technique of air gun shock test for the design of model-scale one for the near field non-explosive UNDEX test through its verification with full-scale SERCEL shock test result. Underwater blasting response analysis of full-scale air gun shock test was carried out using highly advanced M&S (Modeling & Simulation) system of FSI (Fluid-Structure Interaction) analysis technique of LS-DYNA code, and was verified by comparing its shock characteristics and behaviors with the results of air gun shock test.

  • Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture (AMBA) 기반 System-on-Chip (SoC)에서는 기능적 테스트를 위해 ARM사의 Test Interface Controller (TIC)를 사용한다. 따라서 구조적 스캔 테스트 패턴도 TIC와 AMBA 버스를 통해 인가하면서 스캔입력과 출력을 동시에 수행할 수 없다는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 ARM 코어를 사용하는 SoC 테스트를 위한 AMBA based Test Access Mechanism (ATAM)을 제안한다. 기존 TIC와의 호환성을 유지하고 스캔 입력과 출력을 동시에 할 수 있으므로 고가의 Automatic Test Equipment (ATE)를 통한 테스트 시간을 대폭 절감할 수 있다.

BF인증을 위한 바닥 마감재 미끄럼 성능기준 및 측정방법에 대한 연구 (A Study on Floor Slip Resistance Standard and Test Method for BF Certification)

  • Purpose: There are no clear criteria for slip performance in the BF certification process, so the evaluator relies on subjective judgments depending on the field situation. Physical criteria for determining the slip performance of various floor finishes are not clear. C.S.R., the only criterion currently being used to check slip performance, may raise questions about its coverage, feasibility and reliability. Method: For an analysis of domestic standards and status, KS L 1001, KS M 3510, and KS F 2375. External standards are analyzed for ADA Standard, ANSI Standard, and BS EN Standard. Analyze the test methods and evaluation criteria of O-Y-PSM, BPT, and the dynamic slip resistance test used in these criteria. It also presents an improvement plan for the rational presentation of standards. Results: To date, various kinds of test methods and measuring devices of the slip resistance coefficient have been developed, but there are not many ways to trust useful results related to user safety. Reliability and thoroughly verified test methods and criteria should be used to assess the slip performance of the floor. In order to improve the standard for the evaluation of slip performance in Korea, the existing standard should first be raised to the same level as the overseas standard, and the application of the discriminatory standard should be applied considering the characteristics and usage patterns of each space. Implication: Currently, Korean standards propose various test methods, but the proper use of test methods, scope and assessment criteria are not established, so improvement of the comprehensive standard is necessary.
