  • Through a series of bollard pull tests of a propeller in partially submerged condition, thrust, torque, and shaft excitation force of a conventional propeller model were measured using a six-component load cell. By variation of the Weber number and Reynolds number, a consistent towing tank model test condition was derived. The effects of propeller immersion depth on the ventilation behavior and change of force and moment acting onto the propeller shaft were investigated. The decrease in thrust owing to the inception of ventilation was confirmed, and a large degree of dispersion of the thrust and torque coefficients were also observed in the transition region where the blade tip was under the water surface. The shaft excitation force was derived from the force and moment onto the propeller shaft.

  • This study focused on the roll motion characteristics of a two-dimensional (2D) rectangular floating structure under regular beam sea conditions. An experiment was conducted in a 2D wave tank for a roll free decay test in calm water and the roll motion in a range of regular waves with and without heave motion to investigate the motion response and heave influence on the roll motion. A numerical study was carried out using Reynolds-averaged Navier Stokes (RANS)-based CFD simulations. A grid convergence test was conducted to accurately capture the wave condition on the free surface based on the overset mesh and wave forcing method. It was found in the roll free decay test that the numerical results agreed well with the experimental results for the natural roll period and roll damping coefficient. It was also observed that the heave motion had an impact on the roll motion, and the responses of the heave and roll motion from the CFD simulations were in reasonable agreement with those from the experiment.

  • Recently, although the size of the LNG Cargo Containment System (CCS) has been increasing, the secondary barrier is reported to remain unchanged, and the conventional Flexible Secondary Barrier (FSB) used in Mark-III type has been pointed out to be vulnerable to failure owing to thermal and cyclic loads. In this respect, a tensile test was carried out to verify the reinforcing effect of FSB using aramid fiber on weft compared to the conventional FSB. In order to consider the LNG leakage situation, a series of tensile tests were conducted from ambient to cryogenic temperature, and mechanical properties were evaluated for each fiber direction on account of anisotropy. Tensile behavior and fracture analyses were performed to confirm the mechanical properties of each material according to temperature. Tensile test results proved that replacing the aramid fiber instead of E-glass fiber used on weft is effective in enhancing the mechanical properties.

  • A digital hardware architecture for artificial neural network with learning capability is described in this paper. It is a modified hardware architecture known as HANNIBAL(Hardware Architecture for Neural Networks Implementing Back propagation Algorithm Learning). For implementing an efficient neural network hardware, we analyzed various type of multiplier which is major function block of neuro-processor cell. With this result, we design a efficient digital neural network hardware using serial/parallel multiplier, and test the operation. We also analyze the hardware efficiency with logic level simulation. • To investigate the seismic performance of Y-shaped eccentrically braced frames fabricated with high-strength steel (Y-HSS-EBFs), a shake table test of a 1:2 scaled three-story Y-HSS-EBF specimen was performed. The input wave for the shake table test was generated by the ground motions of El Centro, Taft, and Lanzhou waves. The dynamic properties, acceleration, displacement, and strain responses were obtained from the test specimen and compared with previous test results. In addition, a finite element model of the test specimen was established using the SAP2000 software. Results from the numerical analysis were compared with the test specimen results. During the shake table test, the specimen exhibited sufficient overall structural stiffness and safety but suffered some localized damage. The lateral stiffness of the structure degenerated during the high seismic intensity earthquake. The maximum elastic and elastoplastic interstory drift of the test specimen for different peak ground accelerations were 1/872 and 1/71, respectively. During the high seismic intensity earthquake, the links of the test specimen entered the plastic stage to dissipate the earthquake energy, while other structural members remained in the elastic stage. The Y-HSS-EBF is a safe, dual system with reliable seismic performance. The numerical analysis results were in useful agreement with the test results. This finding indicated that the finite element model in SAP2000 provided a very accurate prediction of the Y-HSS-EBF structure's behavior during the seismic loadings.

  • A hydraulic tensile test machine (HSTM) is one of the devices used to obtain the flow stress of a material during high-speed elongation. This paper first describes some features of a newly built HSTM. The improvement histories of the upper and lower jigs, which are the most vital parts of the HSTM, are also presented. We have frequently witnessed test failures with 1st generation jigs and specimens due to slip between the jig and specimen. 2nd generation jigs provide more stable test results, but the use of a longer upper jig induces excessive vibration and consequently makes it difficult to attach an environment chamber. 3rd generation jigs have some advances in terms of the symmetric fastening between the upper jig and specimen, as well as an exemption from direct contact between the lower jig and specimen. The performance of an environment chamber is verified by high and low temperature tests. A high-speed displacement measurement system is introduced based on a high-speed camera and motion-tracking software with aid of a surface grid device for the specimen.

  • Power dissipation during scan testing is becoming an important concern as design sizes and gate densities increase. The high switching activity of combinational circuits is an unnecessary operation in scan shift mode. In this paper, we present a novel architecture to reduce test power dissipation in combinational logic by blocking signal transitions at the logic inputs during scan shifting. We propose a unique architecture that uses dmuxed scan flip-flop (DSF) and transmission gate as an alternative to muxed scan flip-flop. The proposed method does not have problems with auto test pattern generation (ATPG) techniques such as test application time and computational complexity. Moreover, our elegant method improves performance degradation and large overhead in terms of area with blocking logic techniques. Experimental results on ITC99 benchmarks show that the proposed architecture can achieve an average improvement of 30.31% in switching activity compared to conventional scan methods. Additionally, the results of simulation with DSF indicate that the powerdelay product (PDP) and area overhead are improved by 28.9% and 15.6%, respectively, compared to existing blocking logic method.

  • This paper proposes the self test method for 16 point FFT processor with systolic array architecture. To test efficiently and solve the increased hardware problems due to built-in self test, we change the normal registers into Linear Feedback Shift Registers(LFSR). LFSR can be served as a test pattern generator or a signature analyzer during self test operation, while LFSR a ordering register or a accumulator during normal operation. From the results of logic simulation for 16 point FFT processor by YSLOG, the total time is estimated in about. 21.4 [us].

  • This paper describes a design driven approach to drive intelligent test plan generation based on adaptive use case (3,5). Its foundation is an object-oriented software design approach which partitions design schema into design architecture of functional components called “design component”. A use case software development methodology of adaptive use case approach developed in I.I .T is employed which preserves this unit architecture on through to the actual code structure. Based on the partition design schema produced during the design phase of this methodology, a test plan is generated which includes a set of component and scenario based test. A software metric is introduced which produces an ordering of this set to enhance productivity and both promote and capitalize on test case reusability, This paper contains an application that illustrates the proposed approach.
