  • This study was conducted to assess food safety knowledge of college students according to mass-media reports. To accomplish this, a survey was conducted to investigate the reliability, of primary mass-media sources on Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy(BSE) as well as the preferences of college students. The most common sources of media consumed by male and female students were terrestrial television(TV)(60%), the internet(21%), and newspapers(11%) and terrestrial TV(60%), newspapers (18%), and the internet(17%), respectively. The preferences for media of major and non-major students were terrestrial TV(64%), newspapers(17%), and the internet(14%) and terrestrial TV(51%), the internet(22%), and newspapers(19%), respectively. The reliability of media as viewed by male students were as follows: terrestrial TV(53%) and the internet(40%), whereas for female students, these values were terrestrial TV(55%) and the internet(37%). The reliability of media as viewed by major and non-major students was as follows: terrestrial TV(67%) and the internet(28%), and terrestrial TV(44%) and the internet(44%), respectively. In the case of male students, the primary sources for information regarding BSE were terrestrial TV(54%) and the internet(38%), whereas for female students, the primary sources were terrestrial TV(57%) and internet (37%). In the case of major students, the primary sources for information regarding BSE were terrestrial TV(52%) and the Internet(40%), and for non-major students, the internet(47%) and terrestrial TV(39%). Both male and female students were found to have less knowledge regarding prions, SRM(Specified Risk Materials), MM(methionine-methionine) type genes, and cow above 30 months associated with BSE compared to the other factors associated with this disease. The BSE-related knowledge held by major and non-major students was revealed unknown more than the majority of responses. Based on these results, greater effort should be made to provide meaningful information to improve the food-safety knowledge of college students according to mass-media.

  • This paper presents a method to determine the rolloff factors of both the digital terrestrial TV modulator and the bandpass filter (BPF) at the digital TV receiver input, using an analytical power spectral density model satisfying given co-channel and adjacent channel protection ratios for the digital terrestrial broadcasting services. Since the proposed method is very simple and effective to use, also can be used regardless of type of systems or modulation techniques, this method is expected to be applied to select some other digital terrestrial broadcasting system specifications.

  • This study deals with the effects of the extension of terrestrial TV VOD holdback on the viewing behavior focusing on IPTV & digital cable TV. And this study presents the implication by analyzing a time series trend of the digital media service. Thus researcher has analyzed the VOD performance trend of IPTV & digital cable TV, based on the real data of media player's internal fact sheet. First, researcher confirmed that the repetition of the peak value goes to January and August seasonally. Also, it was confirmed that the viewing rate of terrestrial broadcasting companies is affected by the hit drama program. And researcher confirmed that the terrestrial VOD, movie and kids VOD, and terrestrial VOD purchases is falling down by analyzing a time series relationship. Terrestrial broadcasting companies did an extension of the holdback for the purpose of trying to increase the viewership of the broadcast, but it was confirmed that it was reduced both purchasing desire VOD viewing and viewing of the broadcast audience rather. Thus the researcher expect the customer familiar policy of media players in the future.

Both male and female students were found to have less knowledge regarding prions, SRM, and MM type genes associated with BSE when compared to the other factors associated with this disease. In addition, the important determining factors for the food purchase of male and female students both were the orders of taste, hygiene, price. The preferences for meats and the beef-alternative meats of male and female students were the orders of pork, chicken. Based on these results, greater efforts should be made to provide meaningful information regarding the safe production and distribution of meats.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest what the effect of channel brand equity is in the environment of multi-platform and to raise how channel brand equity is important by investigating how terrestrial TV's channel brand equity influences viewers' choice and use of the terrestrial TV contents on the multi-platform. The findings showed that the terrestrial TV's channel brand equity partially had a significant effect on the degree of use of Terrestrial TV contents on multi-platforms, but it did not on the diversity of media for viewing the terrestrial TV contents. In addition, it partially had an influence on the use of platform and service for viewing terrestrial TV contents by type. Finally, it also partially had impacts on the diversity of genre and the genre use by type. The findings suggest that the channel brand equity can have effects on the viewers' choice and use of broadcasting contents on the multi-platforms, and thus this study provides significant insights on what strategies are required for the competitiveness of broadcasting channels.

  • The space for production, such as studios and control rooms, is a space for TV program production, which is the main function of broadcast. A block planning for such space should be carefully designed, because it can significantly affect the efficiency of production, as well as future productivity and the development and expandability of production. From the results of comparative analysis of 7 local terrestrial broadcasters built since the late 1990s, this study will. propose an ideal block planning for the future construction of local terrestrial broadcasters. Also, the results can be used a basic data when constructing new buildings for local broadcasters.

  • In this paper, we propose an additional data transmission scheme using multiple-antennas with backward compatibility for legacy ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) terrestrial DTV (digital television) receivers. The proposed scheme improves the data rate and bit error rate performance compared to the conventional single antenna transmission scheme for additional data. Also, the proposed scheme guarantees backward compatibility for legacy ATSC DTV receivers.

  • A dispute over price for retransmitting terrestrial channels between Terrestrial Television Systems and Cable TV System Operator(SO)s has been underway up to now since 2007 and expected to last unless there is a measure of extraordinary countermeasures. Thus, in this paper, we present a scheme for calculating the reasonable price on retransmitting terrestrial channels. Re-transmission price calculation scheme is presented in two ways. One is to calculate the price for the extent to which Terrestrial broadcasters and Cable broadcasters contribute, and the other is to calculate the price for terrestrial channels retransmitted by applying the method of Cable TV PP program fee basis. In addition, on profit-sharing scheme and criteria for program fee we present two ways of subscription, which are flat sum system and fixed rate system.

  • This paper describes a study of terrestrial digital TV transmission systems using wideband opto-electronic techniques such as electro-absorption modulators, wavelength division multiplex to support cost effective, high speed, flexible and interactive digital TV networks including ultra-high speed subscriber networks. In particular, the national DTV networks to be installed is required huge amount of cost. Therefore, the network should be carefully designed for DTV, communication and multimedia services in the future. In this paper, wideband optoelectronic DTV systems are suggested.
