  • Three barrows weighing 45.0 kg, fitted with simple T-cannulas in both the duodenum and terminal ileum, were assigned to diets in a $3{\times}3$ Latin Square design experiment to determine the effect of two calcium levels (0.8% vs 0.4%) on phytase activity and nutrient balance in growing pigs. The control diet contained 0.8% calcium, with no added inorganic phosphorus (0.45% total phosphorus) and no added phytase. The two additional experimental diets contained microbial phytase (750 phytase units/kg) and supplied either 0.8% or 0.4% calcium. With added microbial phytase, ileal and total tract digestibility of rotal phosphorus were improved by 20.9 and 13.8 percentage units, respectively (p=0.01). The apparent duodenal and ileal digestibility of phytate phosphorus were increased by 51.8 and 49.7 percentage units (p=0.01). Lowering dietary calcium in the presence of microbial phytase increased the digestibility of phytate phosphorus by an additional 10.9 (p=0.001) and 5.7 percentage units for duodenal and ileal digestibility, respectively. Supplementation with microbial phytase significantly reduced fecal excretion of nitrogen and phosphorus and increased the percentage of these nutrients retained by the pig. Lowering dietary calcium further increased the percentage of dietary phosphorus retained. Overall, reducing dietary calcium appeared to increase the effectiveness of added microbial phytase in degrading phytate phosphorus. As a result, care should be taken to avoid high levels of dietary calcium when supplementing swine diets with microbial phytase.

  • Objectives: To grasp the traditional stream of cancer treatment inherited from the previous doctors. Methods: The author's research has been performed cancer treatment based on JIJU(積聚) taking the original text as a reference. Results & Conclusion: The general three outlines and five detailed rules of cancer treatment have been obtained as follows. The first outline of cancer treatment is that reinforced vital function makes cancer reduce naturally. the second is that Harmless cancer can coexist in human beings and aging with them. and the third is that Elimination and reinforcing therapies should be executed in appropriate era and those therapies should utilize appropriate methods. The first detailed rule of cancer treatment is when using reinforcing therapy, it must applicate mildly and when using elimination therapy, it must applicate calmly. The second detailed rule is that the methods of cancer treatment are different from each cancer stage. The concentration should be made on reinforcing therapy at early stage while reinforcing and elimination therapies must be conducted together at middle stage. At terminal stage reinforcing therapy is the sole method to be taken. The third detailed rule is that the basis property of cancer drug is warm nature and extremely biased property should be avoided and when complication arises (eg. inflamatory disease, cancer fever, etc), cold or cool nature can be applied. The fourth detailed rule is that Cancer drug must have the effect eliminating the blood stasis, phlegm and excessive fluid, all together. The fifth detailed rule is that Physicians have to control patient's stress or stress related symptom and teach patients about right way of taking care of themselves and patients should take hygienic rules with their free will by themselves (eg diet, exercise, stress, etc)

  • In this paper, we have implemented a ubiquitous healthcare system that can measure and check human's health in anytime and anywhere. The implemented prototype are composed of both front-end and back-end. The front-end have several groups: environment sensor group such as temperature, humidity, photo, voice sensor, health sensor group such as blood pressure, heart beat, electrocardiogram, spo2 sensor, gateway for wired/wireless communication, and RFlD reader to identify personal. The back-end has a serial forwarder to propagate measurment results, monitor program, and medical information server. The implemented sensor node constructs a sensor network using the Zigbee protocol and is ported the TinyOS. The data gathering base node is linux-based terminal that can transfer a sensed medial data through wireless LAN. And, the medical information server stores the processed medical data and can promptly notify the urgent status to the connected medical team. Through our experiments, we've confirmed the possibility of ubiquitous healthcare system based on sensor network using the Zigbee.

  • More people travel oversea as the economic size of Korea is getting larger and more new jobs are requested to be created by the society. To respond to these trend and request, Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) is about to expand its processing capability with a new terminal; 54 million passengers to 72 million. IIAC is also introducing new strategies such as open innovation (OI) and creating shared value (CSV). With these changes, IIAC faces new challenges of restructuring its business and organization with new ideas. Most organizations including IIAC are becoming more dependent on external resources to keep their competitive advantages under the turbulence of global business environmental changes. Therefore, they focus on the OI paradigm which is reported as a convincing strategy to improve competitiveness in terms of budget and time-to-market. OI is to quickly react to the rapidly changing business environment and is adopted to support startup incubation. In the previous research with IIAC, three major tasks were defined; utilizing the IIAC brand power for external vendors, building a technology road-map, and introducing a collaboration support system. This paper deals with the collaboration system as proposed in the previous research. We focused on the collaboration process for startup incubation. Cases were studied; the K-startup model by the government, a university model to explore youth startups, and a R&D institute model to study professional startups. Based on the case studies, we defined an IIAC model and proposed issues to take care of. The model is distinguished from the other studied models since IIAC is a prospective customer of new technology.

  • There is a need to investigate folk remedies used by patients with breast cancer because there is little information about the subject, even though many Korean women with breast cancer have used folk remedies during and after their treatment. The purpose of this study was to investigate and describe the phenomena and the meaning of folk remedies in order to better understand patients with breast cancer and to suggest directions for comprehensive nursing care. The Questions for the study were as follows What kinds of folk remedies do patients with breast cancer use\ulcorner What are the routes of knowing about folk remedies in patients with breast cancer\ulcorner What are the patterns of the usage of the folk remedies\ulcorner Why do patients with breast cancer use folk remedies\ulcorner What are the meanings of folk remedies to patients with breast cancer\ulcorner To answer these questions, a qualitative research method was used. Thirty-nine patients were recruited from university teaching hospitals from March, 1993 to November 1994. Many of them underwent either modified radical mastectomy or received various adjuvant therapy including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and hormonal therapy. Data were collected by in-depth interviews, observations, medical records, and analyzed step-by-step using qualitative analysis. The results were as follows : 1. Patients with breast cancer have used many different kinds of folk remedies. 2. Patients with breast cancer did not know the exact effects of the folk remedies. Also the effects could not be exactly proven by the patients. 3. Patients with breast cancer received information about many kinds of folk remedies through various communication systems, such as other patients, their families and relatives, friends, and many types of mass media. 4. To use the folk remedies was one kind of illness behavior that was used by these patients. 5. Folk remedies were used to deal with not only anxiety by the patients themselves but also as the expression of affection and concern by families and relatives. 6. The use of folk remedies was one of the adaptation behaviors in patients with breast cancer whose disease was in the terminal stage. Based on the above findings, one suggestion was made : To continue further studies on folk remedies used by other patients with cancer in order to further explain health and illness behavior of Korean people.

  • Within the frame of the MERCOSUR (South Common Market), one of the most important goals to achieve by its member states is a better cost effective international cargo transportation system. For this purpose the project of developing a commercial waterway linking the east region of Uruguay with the south of Brazil has been under study for a number of years now. Because of the high costs involved on the development of such waterway, the project has been indefinitely delayed. It is our intention to show an alternative way to reduce the present obstacles by using a budget oriented approach in order to determine the vessel best suited to use on the proposed waterway. So far, every study related to the project has been focused on the amount of work needed to modify the environment in order to accommodate the hardware already available in the region. The conclusions show that the cost of opening and maintaining the required navigation channel is high enough to discourage investment; the added responsibility to take care of any environmental damage incurred during the building and/or operation of the waterway makes searching for a less costly and hazardous option an interesting challenge. The proposed terminal on the Cebollat? River would be located at the heart of the Uruguayan rice growing region. Uruguay exports 90% of its rice production, being Brazil its biggest buyer. Wood chips and clinker are the other types of cargo considered to use the proposed waterway in route to either Brazil or to overseas destinations through the deep water port of Rio Grande. Through the analysis of local data by a Geographical Information System, international regulations regarding inland waterways and shallow draught vessel characteristics, we seek to propose a cost efficient alternative to apply on this particular scenario.

  • By using wireless terminal, User that want to transmit multimedia traffic as well as simple text and voice have a tendency to increase. This paper proposes a fast handoff protocol that is suitable transmission for real-tim of multimedia traffic by using modified local registration. The proposed protocol solves the Triangle Routing Protocol that is one of existing opened issues without modifying protocol of CN, and we propose the method that MN is able to received a packet by real-time, even if MN is being handoff. We compare fast handoff protocol proposed in this paper with existing method n the registration cost and data packet transmission cost. As a result, we showed that fast handoff protocol proposed in this paper outperforms existing method.

  • Replantation using microvascular anastomosis is considered to be the optimal method in treating the amputated ear in terms of resulting color, texture, and shape. Only a few cases of ear replantation have been reported because it is anatomically difficult to identify suitable vessels for anastomosis. We successfully replanted the amputated helical rim of the ear using single arterial anastomosis. A 37-year-old man had his helical rim amputated by a human bite. The amputee was about $4{\times}1cm$ in dimension, composed of skin and soft tissue including auricular cartilage. Replantation was performed anastomosing a small artery of the amputee with a terminal branch of the posterior auricular artery. After replantation, intravenous heparinization was performed and prostaglandin E1 and aspirin were administered. Venous congestion was decompressed by stab incisions applied with heparin solution soaked gauze. Venous congestion of the amputee slowly began to resolve at 4 days after the operation. The amputated segment of the helical rim survived completely with good aesthetic shape and color. The authors propose that performing microvascular anastomosis should be attempted especially if it is possible to detect vessels on cut surfaces of ear amputee and stump. Proper postoperative care for venous congestion, arterial insufficiency, and infection should be followed for amputee survival.
