In order to replace existing slit type steel plate on the wooden structure joint, the FRP-reinforced laminated plates were produced. Four types of FRP-reinforced laminated plates were produced according to the type of reinforcement and adhesive, and before applying to the joint, the adhesion performance test according to KSF 3021 and KSF 2160 and the Compact Tension (CT) type fracture toughness test specified in ASTM D5045-99 were carried out. As a result of adhesion performance test, all GFRP textile, GFRP sheet, and GFRP Textile-Sheet type FRP-reinforced laminated plates satisfied the requirement of soaking delamination percentage with smaller than 5% based on KS standard. However, aramid type specimen satisfied the standard as the soaking delamination percentage of 4.8% but it did not satisfied the standard as the water proof soaking delamination percentage of 70%. As a result of fracture toughness test, the volume ratio of reinforcement to timber became 23% so that the strength of FRP-reinforced laminated plates increased by two to four times in comparison to the control specimen. It was confirmed that the GFRP Textile-Sheet type specimen was most resistant to the fracture most since the ratio of stress intensity factor compared with that of the control increased to 61% owing to the parallel arrangement of glass fiber to the load. As a result of tensile shear strength test using FRP-reinforced laminated plates and nonmetal dowels, it is about 12% lower than metal connectors.

The purpose of this study was to verify the shore margin protection effect of a root system developed from direct sticking of Salix gracilistyla Miq., focusing on the reinforcement of soil shear strength. The materials were 20cm long sticks whose average diameter and weight were 7.52mm and 14.58g respectively, and sandy loam(Sand 60.36%, Silt 28%, Clay 11.64%), whose maximum dry weight(${\gamma}$$_{dmax}$) was 1.59gf/㎤ at the water ratio( $W_{opt}$) 13.8%. The direct shearing test(KS F 2343) was applied to cylindric columms(diameter 132mm) of pure soil and two years old root reinforced soil. At each condition of vertical stress, 10N/$ extrm{cm}^2$, 14.41N/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 18.82 N/$\textrm{cm}^2$, five soil+root columns were sheared. After shear tests, the root area ratio and soil moisture on the shear plane were measured. The results of this research were as follows: 1. The average of root area ratio was 1.86% and the soil moisture 14.67%. 2. Two years old root system was found to increase the soil shear strength of pure soil in terms of Cohesion(C) and Inner friction Angle($\phi$) as follows. 3. The relationship between root area ratio and the increased shear strength can be presented with the following equation, $\Delta$S ≒ 0.33ㆍ TrㆍAs/A $\Delta$S : Increased Shear Strength Tr : Average Tension Strength of Root, Ar/A : Root Area Ratioioage Tension Strength of Root, Ar/A : Root Area Ratio

KCI 2012 and ACI318-11 contains development length provisions for the use of headed deformed bars in tension and does not allow their tension lap splices. In ACI318-11, the confinement factor, such as transverse reinforcement factor, is not used to calculate the development length of headed bars. The purpose of this experimental study is to evaluate the effect of confinement details to the lap splice performance of headed deformed reinforcing bars in grade SD400 and SD500. The confinement details are stirrups and tie-down bars in lap zone. Test results showed that specimens with only stirrups had the brittle failure and could not increase lap strengths, and that specimens with composite confinements by stirrups and tie-down bars had the flexural strengths over than nominal flexural strengths. Stirrups with tie-down bars can have an effect on improvement in lap splice of headed bars in grade SD400 and SD500.
This paper describes a proposal for average crack width and immediate deflection calculation in structural concrete members. The model is mathematically derived from actual bond stressslip relationships and tension stiffening effect between reinforcement and the surrounding concrete, and the actual strains of steel and concrete are integrated respectively along the embedded length between the adjacent cracks so as to obtain the difference in the axial elongation. With these, a model for average crack width and immediate deflection in reinforced concrete flexural members are proposed utilizing difference in the axial elongation and average steel strain and moment-curvature relationship with taking account of bond characteristics. The model is applied to the test specimens available in literatures, and the crack width and deflections predicted by the proposal equation in this study are closed to the experimentally measured data compared the current code provisions.

This is a part of the extensive ongoing investigation being carried out by author to develop appropriate design procedure of the concrete member reinforced with FRP rebars instead of conventional steel rebars. This study presents the experimental results of a research programme to assess the structural characteristics of spliced rebar in reinforced concrete members with FRP reinforcement. The test variables are the diameter of FRP rebar and the embedment length. The development length (ld) was calculated according to the ACI 440 for FRP rebars in concrete. A total of 14 concrete beams reinforced with spliced FRP rebars and 4 reference beams reinforced with non-spliced FRP rebars were tested. The effects of bar size (10, 13, 16 and 19 mm) and splice length (from 0.72 to 1.58ld) on the bond strength were empirically evaluated. The test results indicate that a modification factor of 1.3 and 1.6 is relatively sufficient for the bond development length of glass FRP rebars in order to achieve an adequate tension lap splice length.

The cable system of suspension bridges is a very important non-elastic element which caries an external load by a tension force of the cable, such that creates the integrity of a structure. It is not easy to find if cable system have been changed by the maintenance activities such as repairs or reinforcement. Sometimes the maintenance can cause structural deformations and changes of the tension force in cables. In most cases, the cable stayed bridges are managed by health monitering system, however, the main cable of suspension bridges need to develop more accurate and efficient monitoring system. The Namhee Bridge was constructed 35 years ago and it has been continually repaired and reinforced after then. This study describes the behavior of the cable system by analysing many of inspective reports and by using the results of hanger rope test and for the shape of main cables surveys.

It is well known that axial tension decreases the shear strength of RC & PSC beams without transverse reinforcement, and axial compression increases the shear resistance. What is perhaps not very well understood is how much the shear resistance capacity is influenced by axial load. RC beams without shear reinforcement subjected to large axial compression and shear may fail in a very brittle manner at the instance of first diagonal cracking. As a result, a conservative approach should be used for such members. According to the ACI Code, the shear strength in web is calculated by effect of axial force and the vertical force in the stirrups calculated by $45^{\circ}$ truss model. This study was performed to examine the effect of axial force in reinforced concrete beams by nonlinear FEM program (ATENA-2D).

The effectiveness and the sensitivity of a Wireless impedance/Admittance Monitoring System (WiAMS) for the prompt damage diagnosis of two single-storey single-span Reinforced Concrete (RC) frames under cyclic loading is experimentally investigated. The geometrical and the reinforcement characteristics of the RC structural members of the frames represent typical old RC frame structure without consideration of seismic design criteria. The columns of the frames are vulnerable to shear failure under lateral load due to their low height-to-depth ratio and insufficient transverse reinforcement. The proposed Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system comprises of specially manufactured autonomous portable devices that acquire the in-situ voltage frequency responses of a network of twenty piezoelectric transducers mounted to the RC frames. Measurements of external and internal small-sized piezoelectric patches are utilized for damage localization and assessment at various and increased damage levels as the magnitude of the imposed lateral cycle deformations increases. A bare RC frame and a strengthened one using a pair of steel crossed tension-ties (X-bracing) have been tested in order to check the sensitivity of the developed WiAMS in different structural conditions since crack propagation, damage locations and failure mode of the examined frames vary. Indeed, the imposed loading caused brittle shear failure to the column of the bare frame and the formation of plastic hinges at the beam ends of the X-braced frame. Test results highlighted the ability of the proposed SHM to identify incipient damages due to concrete cracking and steel yielding since promising early indication of the forthcoming critical failures before any visible sign has been obtained.

Recently the geosynthetics reinforced retaining wall has been widely used instead of the steel reinforced retaining wall. The geosynthetics reinforced retaining wall is a very dangerous structure if the geosynthetics lose their strength about tension or if it lose their pullout resistence, but it was known that the geosynthetics reinforced wall had a great resistence and was a very safe structure against a earthquake or a dynamic load. It can be said that most important factors in the stability of the geosynthetics reinforced wall are the horizontal length of reinforcement and the vertical distance between two reinforcements. That is to say, as the length of reinforcement is longer, the structure is more stable and as the vertical distance between two reinforcements is shorter, it is more stable. In this study, in order to get the critical condition with a safety rate of 1, various kinds of model tests about geosynthetics reinforced wall has been performed. Photos by B-shutter method has been taken during tests and from photos, which show us the failure state, the critical condition about failure has been conformed. Accordingly the equation, which says the limit of stability in geosynthetics reinforced wall., has been proposed.

The purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the effect of reinforcement of polyetylene fiber, inclusion of silica sand, and replacement of cement with fly ash on the compressive and tensile behavior of fiber reinforced composite. Five types of mixture proportions were determined and compressive strength and uniaxial tension tests were performed. Test results showed that strength, ductility, and control of cracking were improved by the reinforcement of fiber. Although the strength was improved by the inclusion of dried silica sand, the ductility was reduced and the crack width was increased. On the other hand, the increase of ductility, the decrease of crack width, and the decrease of strength were observed by the replacement of cement with fly ash.
