The change of material J-R (J-T) curve with crack extension and J-calculation method was investigated to give experimental and analytical method for reliable J-R (J-T) curve, which was adapted recently as a tool for instability analysis of Nuclear Pressure Vessel. Experiments were carried out by Single Specimen Unloading Compliance Method using 1/2"T, Compact-Tension Type fracture mechanic specimens which were the same size and material as domestic nuclear pressure vessel material surveillance specimens. The results revealed that crack extension up to 25~30% of initial uncracked ligament and JD (Deformation theory J) calculation method, currently being used in NUREG-0744, could give rather reliable material J-R (J-T) curve than the small crack extension and JM (Modified J) calculation method. But as JM results more or less higher J at instability, the application of JM should be considered regarding to the problem of power plant availability.lity.

A numerical method of the CSF(Continuum Surface Force) model is presented for the calculation of the surface tension force and implemented in an in-house solution code(PowerCFD). The present method(code) employs an unstructured cell-centered method based on a conservative pressure-based finite-volume method with volume capturing method(CICSAM) in a volume of fluid(VOF) scheme for phase interface capturing. The application of the present method to a 2-D liquid drop problem is illustrated by an equilibrium and nonequilibrium oscillating drop calculation. It is found that the present method simulates efficiently and accurately surface tension-dominant multiphase flows.

The paper presents a numerical and experimental investigation on dynamic behaviors of a towed low tension cable. In the numerical study, an implicit finite difference algorithm is employed for three-dimensional cable equations. Fluid and geometric non-linearity and bending stiffness are considered and solved by Newton-Raphson iteration. Block tri-diagonal matrix method is applied for the fast calculation of the huge size of matrices. In order to verify the numerical results and to see real physical phenomena, an experiment is carried out for a 6m cable in a deep and long towing tank. The cable is towed in two different ways; one is towed at a constant speed and the other is towed at a constant speed with top end horizontal oscillations. Cable tension and shear forces are measured at the top end. Numerical and experimental results are compared with good agreements in most cases but with some differences in a few cases. The differences are due to drag coefficients caused by vortex shedding. In the numerical modeling, non-uniform element length needs to be employed to cope with the sharp variation of tension and shear forces at near top end.

This research is materialized the mechanism of a interlocking elevator device to meet with customer's requirement demanding a variety of function. On this suitably theoretical translation and by considering of material significance of the most factor's tension spring and torsion spring, it's compared and reviewed the stress's calculation according that SWC and SWPB applied differently. And also that is approved through actual experiment. Out of a variety of feasible movement. Torque Balance is materialized by combination of tension spring, torsion spring and disk spring. So that application of 3 factors for optimal design is very important factor. In future, this research thesis make sure to play a highly role for application and improvement mechanically in various industry sector out of materializing interlock.
This paper presents a numerical study on multiphase flows induced by wall adhesion The CSF(Continuum Surface Force} model is used for the calculation of the surface tension force and implemented in an in-house solution code(PowerCFD). The present method(code) employs an unstructured cell-centered method based on a conservative pressure-based finite-volume method with volume capturing method(CICSAM) in a volume of fluid(VOF) scheme for phase interface capturing As an application of the present method, the effects of wall adhesion are numerically simulated with the CSF model for a shallow pool of water located at the bottom of a cylindrical tank. Two different cases are computed, one in which the water wets the wall and one in which the water does not wet the wall. It is found that the present method simulates efficiently and accurately surface tension-dominant multiphase flows induced by wall adhesion.
The present paper proposes a coupled volume-of-fluid (VOF) and level-set (LS) method for simulating incompressible two-phase flows that include surface tension effects. The interface of two fluids and its motion are represented by a VOF method designed using high-resolution differencing schemes. This hybrid method couples the VOF method with an LS distancing algorithm in an explicit way to improve the calculation of the normal and curvature of the interface. It is developed based on a rather simple algorithm to be efficient for various practical applications. The accuracy and convergence properties of the method are verified in a simulation of a single gas bubble rising in a three-dimensional flow with a large density ratio.

Herein, a theoretical method based on the catenary model Is applied to obtain the tension and drag forces acting on the trash curtain which is deployed at river for the prevention of floating debris inflow into the ocean. Under the assumption that fluid drag is perpendicular to the trash curtain, the tension and drag forces are uniform along the trash curtain. As a numerical model, the trash curtain is moored both symmetrically and asymmetrically with respect to the flow. The tension and drag forces on the trash curtain are investigated according to the change of Bap ratio and inclined angle of the trash curtain. Numerical results show that tension parameter is increased as the gap ratio is increased. It is found that tension parameter is reduced as the inclined angle is increased in the case of asymmetric deployment. The numerical model is applied to the specific problem for the trash curtain (200m) deployed at the Tancheon on the Han river. The maximum inflow velocity that anchor system can endure is 2m/sec.
The Brazilian test has been widely used to determine the indirect tensile strength of rock, concrete and other brittle materials. The basic assumption for the calculation formula of Brazilian tensile strength is that the elastic moduli of rock are the same both in tension and compression. However, the fact is that the elastic moduli in tension and compression of most rocks are different. Thus, the formula of Brazilian tensile strength under the assumption of isotropy is unreasonable. In the present study, we conducted Brazilian tests on flat disk-shaped rock specimens and attached strain gauges at the center of the disc to measure the strains of rock. A tension-compression bi-modular model is proposed to interpret the data of the Brazilian test. The relations between the principal strains, principal stresses and the ratio of the compressive modulus to tensile modulus at the disc center are established. Thus, the tensile and compressive moduli as well as the correct tensile strength can be estimated simultaneously by the new formulas. It is found that the tensile and compressive moduli obtained using these formulas were in well agreement with the values obtained from the direct tension and compression tests. The formulas deduced from the Brazilian test based on the assumption of isotropy overestimated the tensile strength and tensile modulus and underestimated the compressive modulus. This work provides a new methodology to estimate tensile strength and moduli of rock simultaneously considering tension-compression bi-modularity.

This paper studies on the new control algorithm for the mass-flow stabilization in strip head part of a hot strip mill. A new strip tension model in the strip head part is derived using the current deviation of two neighboring stands. The current deviation means a difference between a measured current and a lock-on current, where the lock-on current is set up when a strip tension or a looper angle reaches each target value or time is about 0.4sec, respectively. On the basis of the tension calculation model, a mill velocity of a backward stand is controlled to stabilize a strip mass-flow by PI control algorithm. Therefore, the mass-flow control for strip head part is executed from a metal-in time into a foreward stand till the looper works normally. It is known by the results of a computer simulation and an experiment that the proposed control algorithm is very effective in stabilizing the mass flow of the strip head part.
This paper presents the concept design procedure of a floating-type combined renewable energy platform based on hydrodynamic analyses and is focused on the fatigue design of taut-type mooring lines of the platform. Two types of combined renewable energy platforms are considered: a combination of wind turbine, wave turbine and photovoltaic energy plant and a combination of wind turbine, current turbine and photovoltaic energy plant. The basic configurations are conceptually determined from the understanding of floating offshore plants, while the main dimensions have been determined based on a hydrostatic calculation. Fully coupled hydrodynamic analyses have been carried out to identify the motion characteristics of the floating body and the tension histories of the mooring lines. The tension history is used for the fatigue life prediction based on the rain-flow cycle counting method. For the fatigue life prediction, tension life curves from API and the Palmgren-Miner rule are employed.
