불국토(佛國土) 사상에 따른 다불전(多佛殿) 사찰의 조영(造營) 개념 연구 - 불국사, 법주사, 부석사의 불전 배치를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Philosophy of Temple Structure with Multi-Buddha's Pavilions based on Buddha's Land Conception - Focusing on the Layout of Bulkooksa, Beobjusa and Buseoksa -)

  • Temple with Multi-Buddha's Pavilions is a temple consisting of more than 2 Buddha's Pavilions. Individual Buddha's Pavilions tend to form distinguished area, or to keep independent axis from other Buddha's Pavilions. This study is to understand the philosophy of layout of individual Buddha's Pavilions located in the Temple with Multi-Buddha's Pavilions. To investigate a relationship to layout of individual Buddha's Pavilions on the basis of Buddhism doctrine makes us to understand philosophies about temple layout which temple constructors had. Bulkooksa, a temple having several pavilions placed in parallel, integrates diverse philosophies such as Vairocana Buddha-Ksetra from Vairocana Buddha's Pavilion, Sakyamuni Buddha-Ksetra from both Sakyamuni Buddha's Pavilion and two stupa, and Amitayus Buddha-Ksetra (Sukhavati) from Amitayus Buddha-Ksetra Pavilion. Sakyamuni Buddha's Pavilion and Amitayus Buddha's Pavilion are placed east to west in parallel, and Vairocana Buddha's Pavilion is placed behind them. Beobjusa, a temple having several pavilions placed cross axis, combines three axes such as the first, main axis linking Kumkang Gate - Chunwang Gate - Palsang Pavilion - Amitayus Buddha's Pavilion - Sakyamuni Buddha's Pavilion, the second axis linking Palsang Pavilion -Maitreya Pavilion, and the third axis linking Amitayus Buddha's Pavilion - Avalokiteshvara Pavilion. Relationship among each Buddha's land is clearly expressed by means of this cross axis layout of Buddha's Pavilions, reflecting a philosophy of rebirth in Nirvana that Wonhyo and Eusang propagated. Buseoksa, a temple having several pavilions placed the before and the behind, combines three Buddha's lands such as Maitreya Buddha-Ksetra, Amitayus Buddha-Ksetra and Vairocana Buddha-Ksetra, by means of arrangement of Maitreya Pavilion, Anyang Pavilion and Amitayus Buddha's Pavilion at bended axis, and east facing Amitayus Buddha. By investigating the philosophy of Temple layout with Multi-Buddha's Pavilions in this study, Buddha's Land conception, for people, that ancient Korean temples have, is understood.

7.8세기 동아시아 2탑식가람의 생성과 전개에 관한 연구 (The generation and development of the Buddhist Temple having two pagodas in 7-8th centuries)

  • This article works on the development process of the Buddhist Temple with two pagodas in the Eastern Asia. in 7-8th centuries. This study was motivated from the observation that why there are many the Buddhist Temple having two pagodas only around the late 7th century, roughly around 670 A.D.. This period corresponds to the Silla Dynasty(in Korean History) and Hakuho Period(in Japan History) among the Eastern Asia while the composition of the temple being changed as Buddhism spreads out from China. The results of this study are the followings. The appearance of the Buddhist Temple having two pagodas was resulted from the representation of the Ideology in Botabpum(dogma of pagoda security) of the Saddharmapundarika Sutra, that is to say, two Buddhas sit side by side and iconography of Esoteric Buddhism dogma supports the spirit for defending one's country. Buddhist Temple having two pagodas in China had separate tab-won(areas with pagodas outer temple building block). Buddhist Temple having two pagodas in Korea had begun with sacheunwangsa temple in Unified-Silla. But it had two pagodas with inner temple area instead of outer. This was different from the composition of China. It can be related to the layout of the temple haying two pagodas in East-Jin(in China History) and the sculpture of two pagodas in Ungang-stonecave(in China). Thus the layout of the Buddhist Temple having two pagodas in Silla had been originated from that of China, but was developed to the main temple layout on her own accord. As Japanese Temple having two pagodas had been influenced diplomatically, it had two pagodas inner area as like the layout in Shilla. But later under the influence of Tang it was modified to the layout having them in separate area. And this influence can be seen for example Tangchojaesa temple. For the more, We call see that the diplomatic trends according to the policies in East asia affected to Buddhism and then naturally also to the layout of the Buddhist Temple.

이옥이 본 조선 후기 완주 송광사의 가람배치와 대웅전의 구조 (The Site Plan and the Design of Daeungjeon(Main Buddhist Hall) of Songgwangsa Temple Seen by Yi Ok, in the Late Joseon Period)

  • While going into troops for writing in the vignette style(小品文) in opposition to the Classical Chinese(古文), Yi Ok stopped by Songgwangsa Temple in Wanju. The things he felt during this stop were recorded in the Temple Chapter("寺觀") written in 1795. Therefore, the present dissertation evaluates the Songgwangsa Temple of the time based on this Temple Chapter. Data in the Temple Chapter draws attention to the fact that it records the layout of the temple in detail. Thus the study was able to confirm the change in layout by reviewing relevant records about repair. This reveals that the form of layout in general has been maintained although there were changes involving the relocation of the buildings and their names. Furthermore, the original Buddhist building was changed to a quarter for the monks. Also, in terms of layout after the 18th century, there are frequent name changes of the Myeongbujeon(冥府殿) and Nahanjeon(羅漢殿). After two repairs, in order to find the appearance of a Daeungjeon(Main Buddhist hall) with a two-storied structure of five bays at the front, the study evaluated the Geugnakjeon at Muryangsa Temple and the Daeungbojeon at Magoksa Temple. The evaluation revealed that the 'Jeol' used in the Temple Chapter were small pillars erected on a ridgepole just like the Geugnakjeon at Muryangsa Temple, and that the angle rafters were installed to corner bays in rectangular form. The intellectual Yi Ok left behind invaluable architectural data that reveals the Songgwangsa Temple of the 18th century.

통일신라~고려시대 황룡사 사역의 변화과정 검토 (A Review of the Changes Made to the Sites of Hwangnyongsa Temple during the Unified Silla and Goryeo Periods)

  • 황룡사는 약 685년이라는 긴 시간 동안 법등이 이어진 대사찰이다. 1976년부터 1983년까지 이루어진 발굴조사에서 1탑 3금당식의 가람배치가 밝혀진 후 크게 네 차례에 걸쳐 창건부터 최종까지의 가람추정도가 제시된 바 있다. 그러나 지금까지 황룡사 가람구조에 대한 연구는 회랑내곽(佛地) 위주로 연구가 진행되어왔다. 사찰의 건립 이유를 생각한다면 금당지 등 중심건물지에 대한 연구가 먼저 이루어지는 것은 당연하겠지만 사찰 전체의 가람구조를 연구하기 위해서는 회랑외곽(僧地)에 대한 연구도 선행되어야 한다. 신라 사찰의 회랑내·외곽을 포함한 전체 가람구조를 파악하기 위해서는 신라시대 대표사찰인 황룡사를 빼놓을 수 없다. 현재까지 조사된 삼국시대 사찰은 회랑외곽에 대한 자료가 많지 않고 사역의 정확한 범위를 추정하기 어려운 경우가 많다. 이에 비해 황룡사는 사방으로 주변과의 경계인 담장이 축조된 것으로 확인되어 사역의 정확한 범위를 추정하는 것이 가능하다. 즉, 회랑내곽과 외곽, 회랑외곽과 사역외곽과의 공간을 비교적 명확하게 확인할 수 있어 사역 전체 가람 구조의 변화를 추정하기에 적합한 곳이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 황룡사 사역이 통일신라시대부터 고려시대까지 어떠한 변화를 거쳤는지 확인하고 전체 가람 구조의 변화과정을 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 황룡사 사역 남쪽으로의 확장을 확인할 수 있는 남문지의 건립시기와 사역 경계인 사방 담장의 축조시기와 변화과정을 검토하였다. 그 결과 회랑내곽의 가람변화와 함께 회랑외곽 역시 1~3차에 걸쳐 변화했을 가능성을 제시하였다. 또한, 황룡사의 전체 가람구조가 변화하게 된 계기는 단순히 사찰 규모의 변화만을 의미하는 것이 아니라 일찍부터 신라왕경의 중심지에 창건된 지리적 중요성과 함께 주변으로 도시유적이 들어서면서 사찰의 경관 역시 변화를 같이 한 것으로 생각된다.

황룡사 중건가람배치 연구 (A Study on the Layout of the 2nd construction in Hwangnyongsa Buddhist Temple Site)

  • This paper aimed to identify the variation of layout in Hwangnyoungsa buddhist temple site based on studying published the excavation research paper and texts related to layout. According to earlier studies, in 1st construction period(553~569) of Hwangnyoungsa, there were trisection spaces with one main hall and two corridors in inner part and then in 2nd period(584~645), unified one. But actually trisection spaces had been maintained until the middle part of 8th century. And in each space there was the main hall with large yard. That is the 2nd period layout of Hwangnyoungsa. For the attainment this result, each building remains are judged under duplicated situation which one was the previous and next by consideration of the construction condition and special features of foundation. Although the meaning of trisection system of Hwangnyoungsa is similar with the layout of ancient palace, it could be said to derive from accumulation excavation research in Silla's archeological site and such studies.

여주 고달사지의 가람배치 변천과 주요 건물지에 관한 복원적 연구 - $1{\sim}5$차 발굴조사 결과를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Restoration of the Layout Transition and main buildings of Godal temple site in Yeoju)

  • Studies and reports on buddhist temples in Goryeo dynasty are rarely In the present situation. At this point of time new excavational reports and historic records offer many materials to understand a architecture in Goryeo period. Especially, temple site have various transitions, it is of great value to study. This article attempted a restorative study of a location, function, spacial arrangement, structure, building age is based on a measure and transition of temple layout that is based on the excavational result and related historic documents about Godal temple site in Yeoju. Gadal temple site was a representative Zen buddhist temple in Goryeo Dynasty. It was difficult of access by watercourse because it was located in an inland in the upper Han River. Archaeological research and historical records has reveals that the temple was constructed with a minium of four levels[six terms]. We could recognized the central site of temple and buildings were constantly established, enovated or collapsed. It has went through many transition according as it encountered new sects and doctrines. Also it should perform various functions and overcome given conditions. Ultimately it let see greater diversity in the spacial composition, and layout. That is to say it were planed several separate areas, each was consisted of main buildings, once again was integrated into one temple.

황룡사 답도 연구 (A study on the Main-path Remains in the Hwangnyongsa Temple Site)

  • This paper aimed to identify a main-path remains in the Hwangnyongsa temple site based on studying published the excavation survey report and researching relics related to the path in the ancient temple site. Hwngnyongsa temple, there were three type's paved footway, straight path to the central axis line of the layout, outside path around the main buildings and the front square of the lecture hall. These remains were expected that installed for some purposes, such as marches, touring, sort of a Buddhist ceremony been performed at the time of Silla. Straight path shows there were two rows of the main access inside the roofed corridor. A row consisted of the 2~3 pieces processed stone(Jangdaeseok) altogether with 92cm width and combined with square stone and stepping stone on the end of the road. It is regarded as very characteristic form and one of the architectural elements of Hwangnyongsa temple in Unified Silla period.

『낙양가람기』에 나타난 북위 낙양 불교사원 배치에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Layout of Northern Wei Buddhist Temples in 『Luoyang Qielanji』)

  • Luoyang Qielanji(洛陽伽藍記) is a document that describes Buddhist Temples in Luoyang, the capital of Northern Wei Dynasty. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the construction backgrounds, architectural elements and layout characteristics of Luoyang Temples in Northern Wei Dynasty. The results are as follows: The construction backgrounds of Luoyang Temples can be categorized into two types: the established-temple (創建型) and the converted-temple(捨宅爲寺型). The layout systems of Luoyang Temples can also be categorized into two main types: The front Pagoda-rear Buddhist Hall layout(前塔後殿), The front Buddhist Hall-rear Lecture Hall layout(前殿後堂). In Luoyang Temples, the pagoda was still an important element of the layout.

6~7세기 백제 사찰 내 강당 좌우 건물지의 변천과정 고찰 (Survey on Transition Process of Construction Sites in Left and Right of Lecture Hall in the Temple of Baekje During the 6~7th Century)

  • Jeongrimsaji as temple remains of Baekje Sabi period, its re-excavation has been carried three times in full scale. As a result, the buildings in left and right of lecture hall was largely identified in 3 forms. First, layout of small buildings in left and right of lecture hall. Second, layput of corridor in left and right of lecture hall. Third, layout of construction site in the north of corridor in left and right of lecture hall. Above second is included into remains of Gorye, the third is included into remains of Baekje - the remains were almost ruined then. The first form and third form in above is different each other in size of buildings, form of layout, and location. It is important to investigate these points: the time of constructing the buildings; what position have the use and function of the buildings in the temple? ; transition process of layout of the Buddhist temple. In this context, of temple remains in Baekje during the 5~7th century, the cases where construction sites in left and right of lecture hall and construction site in the north of corridor are identified, have been reviewed. Based on this review, the use and function of buildings, their transition process were investigated. The survey results show that small buildings in left and right of lecture hall existed in the middle and later period of the 6th century. During the later 6th century ~ the 7th century, construction site in narrow and long square shape was located in left and right of lecture hall instead of small buildings in the north of corridor. Therefore, it is identified that the aforementioned thing is earlier stage and the latter thing is later stage.

범어사(梵魚寺) 가람배치(伽藍配置)의 중단영역(中壇領域) 변화(變化)에 관한 연구(硏究) - 사진(寫眞)과 도판(圖版)을 중심(中心)으로 - (A Study on Changes of the Central Part of Beomeosa Temple - Based on Photographs and Drawings -)

  • This study was started under the judgement that reviewing $\ulcorner$A Survey Report of Korean Architecture$\lrcorner$, which contains photographs and drawings by Sekino Tadashi and which was also made under the order of the Japanese government(1902), would make it possible to consider in detail the status of Korean buildings in the period of the Korean Empire. The focus of the study. was put on three main parts of the temple, especially the central parts. The photographs and drawings as mentioned above showed that changes in the layout of buildings in the central part of the temple were made between the period of the Korean Empire and that of Japanese occupation. Thus the purpose of the study is to investigate when changes in building layout in the central part of the temple were made and what made such changes to be caused, obtaining information necessary for future changes in the precincts of the temple. Results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, 'Seonchal Daebonsan Beomeosa feonkeongdo' and 'Gyeongsangnamdo Dongraegun Beomeosa Geonmul Jeondo' were made in a same period. While, 'Chosun Gojeok Dobo', published by the government-general of Chosun, was a collection of photographs taken by Sekino Tadashi for about 30 years from 1902 to 1933 under the order of the Japanese government. But there were few changes in the building layout of the temple shown in the three materials. Second, one of the photographs and drawings made since 1933, not contained in 'Chosun Gojeok Dobo', and discovered by this researcher was 'Seonchal Daebonsan Beomeosa Annae' which was published by the temple itself after national independence from the period of Japanese occupation, indicating the main reason of changes in building layout as mentioned above. In conclusion, the layout of buildings of the temple began to be changed on a large scale, with so-called 'Cheyongseol' ignored, when Buddhist monk Cha Woon Ho established a 7-storied sarira tower to the left of the main building in the center of the upper part in 1936. In addition, the axis line connecting between Hwaeomjong and Seonjong was also changed at that time.
