Cold air on sloping surfaces flows down to the valley bottom in mountainous terrain at calm and clear nights. Based on the assumption that the cold air flow may be the same as the water flow, current models estimate temperature drop by regarding the cold air accumulation at a given location as the water-like free drainage. At a closed catchment whose outlet is blocked by man-made obstacles such as banks and roads, however, the water-like free drainage assumption is no longer valid because the cold air accumulates from the bottom first. We developed an empirical model to estimate quantitatively the effect of cold pool on nocturnal temperature in a closed catchment. In our model, a closed catchment is treated like a "vessel", and a digital elevation model (DEM) was used to calculate the maximum capacity of the cold pool formed in a closed catchment. We introduce a topographical variable named "shape factor", which is the ratio of the cold air accumulation potential across the whole catchment area to the maximum capacity of the cold pool to describe the relative size of temperature drop at a wider range of catchment shapes. The shape factor is then used to simulate the density profile of cold pool formed in a given catchment based on a hypsometric equation. The cold lake module was incorporated with the existing model (i.e., Chung et al., 2006), generating a new model and predicting distribution of minimum temperature over closed catchments. We applied this model to Akyang valley (i.e., a typical closed catchment of 53 $km^2$ area) in the southern skirt of Mt. Jiri National Park where 12 automated weather stations (AWS) are operational. The performance of the model was evaluated based on the feasibility of delineating the temperature pattern accurately at cold pool forming at night. Overall, the model's ability of simulating the spatial pattern of lower temperature were improved especially at the valley bottom, showing a similar pattern of the estimated temperature with that of thermal images obtained across the valley at dawn (0520 to 0600 local standard time) of 17 May 2011. Error in temperature estimation, calculated with the root mean square error using the 10 low-lying AWSs, was substantially decreased from $1.30^{\circ}C$ with the existing model to $0.71^{\circ}C$ with the new model. These results suggest the feasibility of the new method in predicting the site-specific freeze and frost warning at a closed catchment.

Bioinspired sea urchin-like structures were fabricated on silicon by inductively coupled plasma (ICP) etching using lens-like shape hexagonally patterned photoresist (PR) patterns and subsequent metal-assisted chemical etching (MaCE) [1]. The lens-like shape PR patterns with a diameter of 2 ${\mu}m$ were formed by conventional lithography method followed by thermal reflow process of PR patterns on a hotplate at $170^{\circ}C$ for 40 s. ICP etching process was carried out in an SF6 plasma ambient using an optimum etching conditions such as radio-frequency power of 50 W, ICP power of 25 W, SF6 flow rate of 30 sccm, process pressure of 10 mTorr, and etching time of 150 s in order to produce micron structure with tapered etch profile. 15 nm thick Ag film was evaporated on the samples using e-beam evaporator with a deposition rate of 0.05 nm/s. To form Ag nanoparticles (NPs), the samples were thermally treated (thermally dewetted) in a rapid thermal annealing system at $500^{\circ}C$ for 1 min in a nitrogen environment. The Ag thickness and thermal dewetting conditions were carefully chosen to obtain isolated Ag NPs. To fabricate needle-like nanostructures on both the micron structure (i.e., sea urchin-like structures) and flat surface of silicon, MaCE process, which is based on the strong catalytic activity of metal, was performed in a chemical etchant (HNO3: HF: H2O = 4: 1: 20) using Ag NPs at room temperature for 1 min. Finally, the residual Ag NPs were removed by immersion in a HNO3 solution. The fabricated structures after each process steps are shown in figure 1. It is well-known that the hierarchical micro- and nanostructures have efficient light harvesting properties [2-3]. Therefore, this fabrication technique for production of sea urchin-like structures is applicable to improve the performance of light harvesting devices.

To investigate the fishery and fishing ground environment of red horsehead (Branchiostegus japonicus), the author analyzed the fishery data and examined the amount of catches and oceanic environment on the adjacent seas of Jeju island and East China Sea. It was turned out that the favourable season of the red horsehead fishery is the month from March to June, the main fishing ground is located in 60 mile radius from the position $32.5^{\circ}N,\;125.7^{\circ}E$. The bottom seawater temperature in fishing ground was shown between $l3^{\circ}C\;and\;16^{\circ}C$, the salinity was appeared between 33.5 and 34.0psu without the seasonal variation of the year. Concentrations of materials(e.g, $NO_3^-\;and\;NO_2^-$) in spring and summer time in main fishing ground were higher than any other seasons, but that of phospheric materials were lower than any other seasons. Concentrations of $chlorophyll\;-\;{\alpha}$ in the main fishing ground was the highest in spring and summer at the surface layer, but the vertical profile of the $chlorophyll\;-\;{\alpha}$ concentrations in all seasons were not variable at bottom layer. Mean density of zooplankton abundance according to the vertical structure was higher and much stable in summer and autumn than spring and winter.
The strain of Nuruk yeat No. 15 (NY-15) which ferments lactose in milk was Isolated from Nuruk and identified as Saccharomyces marxianus according to the API 20C profile index. The lactose hydrolysing ability of NY-15 was similar to that Saccharomyces fragilis ATCC 8583 which has ${\beta}-galactosidase$ activity. Its optimum growth temperature, pH and time for the production of maximum enzyme activity showed $28^{\circ}C$, 4.5 and 28hr, respectively. Galactose as well as sucrose as carbon sources, and urea as nitrogen source Increased the production of enzyme. In order to test the production of alcohol, NY-15 was inoculated in whey medium and whey medium added with sugar. In the former, NY-15 produced 2% alcohol and in the latter, it showed 12% alcohol production. The optimal medium pH for lactose hydrolysis of NY-15 is 4.5, whereas that of Saccharomyces fragilis ATCC 8583 is 3.5
This study calculated wind speed at the height of 10 m using a disaster prediction model(Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model, FPHLM) that was developed and used in the United States. Using its distributions, a usable information of surface wind was produced for the purpose of disaster prevention when the typhoon attack. The advanced research version of the WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting) was used in this study, and two domains focusing on South Korea were determined through two-way nesting. A horizontal time series and vertical profile analysis were carried out to examine whether the model provided a resonable simulation, and the meteorological factors, including potential temperature, generally showed the similar distribution with observational data. We determined through comparison of observations that data taken at 700 hPa and used as input data to calculate wind speed at the height of 10 m for the actual terrain was suitable for the simulation. Using these results, the wind speed at the height of 10 m for the actual terrain was calculated and its distributions were shown. Thus, a stronger wind occurred in coastal areas compared to inland areas showing that coastal areas are more vulnerable to strong winds.

Gas hydrate is ice-like crystalline lattice, formed at appropriate temperature and pressure, in which gas molecules are trapped. It is worldwide popular interesting subject as a potential energy. In korea, a seismic survey for gas hydrate have performed over the East sea by the KIGAM since 1997. In this paper, we had conducted numerical and physical modeling experiments for seismic properties on gas hydrate with field data which had been acquired over the East sea in 1998. We used a finite difference seismic method with staggered grid for 2-D elastic wave equation to generate synthetic seismograms from multi-channel surface seismic survey, OBC(Ocean Bottom Cable) and VSP(Vertical Seismic Profiling). We developed the seismic physical modeling system which is simulated in the deep sea conditions and acquired the physical model data to the various source-receiver geometry. We carried out seismic complex analysis with the obtained data. In numerical and physical modeling data, we observed the phase reversal phenomenon of reflection wave at interface between the gas hydrate and free gas. In seismic physical modeling, seismic properties of the modeling material agree with the seismic velocity estimated from the travel time of reflection events. We could easily find out AVO(Amplitude Versus Offset) in the reflection strength profile through seismic complex analysis.
Part shrinkage in injection molding is inevitable phenomenon. Thus, it is necessary not only study on the reducing part shrinkage but characterization of part shrinkage. In this study, part shrinkage in injection molded 2.5 dimensional annular shaped specimens has been studied using glass fiber reinforced PC. Annular shaped specimens were designed with various sizes of outer diameter and thickness. Injection temperature, packing time and packing pressure were selected for operational conditions. Profile variations of outer and inner diameters of molded specimens for various operational conditions were investigated. Sizes of outer and inner diameters of injection molded specimens were smaller than the sizes of mold. Part shrinkage decreased as outer diameter and thickness increased. Part shrinkage showed anisotropic behavior and it depended upon gate location. Subsequently, molded specimens were not circular but oval in shape, and showed the largest shrinkage in the direction of gate. It was realized that the mold design such as gate design is important to control the shape of molded products.

In this study, we implemented the emotional light controlling system by using the wheel interface built in the smart-watch devices. Most previous light controlling systems have been adopted the direct switches or smart-phone applications for presenting individual emotion in lighting systems. However, in order to control color properties, these studies have some complicated user-interfaces in systems and limitation to present various color spectrums. Therefore, we need to user-friendly interfaces and functions for controlling properties of the lightning systems such as color, tone, color temperature, brightness, and saturation in detail with the wheel interface built in the smart-watch devices. The system proposed in the study is given to choose the user's selecting the emotional status information for providing the emotional lights. The selectable emotional status such as "stable", "surprise", "tired", "angry", etc. can be among 11 kinds of emotional states. In addition, the designed system processed the user's information such as user's emotional status information, local time, location information.
We investigated the transgalactosylation reaction of chlorphenesin (CPN) using ${\beta}$-galactosidase (${\beta}$-gal)-containing Escherichia coli (E. coli) cells, in which galactose from lactose was transferred to CPN. The optimal CPN concentration for CPN galactoside (CPN-G) synthesis was observed at 40 mM under the conditions that lactose and ${\beta}$-gal (as E. coli cells) were 400 g/l and 4.8 U/ml, respectively, and the pH and temperature were 7.0 and $40^{\circ}C$, respectively. The time-course profile of CPN-G synthesis under these optimal conditions showed that CPN-G synthesis from 40 mM CPN reached a maximum of about 27 mM at 12 h. This value corresponded to an about 67% conversion of CPN to CPN-G, which was 4.47-5.36-fold higher than values in previous reports. In addition, we demonstrated by thin-layer chromatography to detect the sugar moiety that galactose was mainly transferred from lactose to CPN. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry revealed that CPN-G and CPN-GG (CPN galactoside, which accepted two galactose molecules) were definitively identified as the synthesized products using ${\beta}$-gal-containing E. coli cells. In particular, because we did not use purified ${\beta}$-gal, our ${\beta}$-gal-containing E. coli cells might be practical and cost-effective for enzymatically synthesizing CPN-G. It is expected that the use of ${\beta}$-gal-containing E. coli will be extended to galactose derivatization of other drugs to improve their functionality.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of isolate soybean protein (ISP) and rice flour on the characteristics of rice noodles. As the levels of ISP and rice flour increased, water binding capacity, swelling power of rice noodle increased. In RVA, pasting temperature, Set back showed an increasing tendency with peak viscosity, holding viscosity, break down, final viscosity of rice noodle increased as the level of rice flour by decreasing. Peak time was not significant. The weight, water absorption and volume of the cooked noodles were decreased. The turbidity of rice noodle increased. The Hunter color L, a-values of the dried rice noodle decreased. Cooked rice noodle quality increased with by decreasing the level of rice flour level. B-values of dried rice noodle and cooked rice noodle increased. Texture profile analysis of cooked rice noodle showed an increase of hardness. Adhesiveness, cohesiveness of cooked rice noodles decreased with by decreasing the level of ISP and rice flour. Gumminess, springiness, chewiness were increased. Sensory evaluation, showed gloss was increased. Hardness and chewiness of the cooked ice noodles were increased. Adhesiveness was not significant. Color and overall- acceptability were increased. Relationship between sensory and mechanical examinations (The overall quality of sensory examination for gloss) had a negative correlation with the mechanical examination for b-value (p.0.05). Mechanical examination for b-value had a positive correlation of sensory evaluation for hardness, chewiness, which had negative correlation of sensory evaluation for color. Scanning Electron, Microscopes observation of rice noodle was showed that the size of the hole grown was increased with by increasing the level of rice flour. From the above results, the most advisable mixture ratio of rice noodle evaluation was can be derived as follows: 171g rice flour, 114g wheat flour, 15g soybean protein isolate, 120ml water, and 6g salt.
