  • Most of the accelerated life tests deal with tests that use only one accelerating variable and no other explanatory variables. Frequently, however, there is a test to use more than one accelerating or other experimental variables, such as, for examples, a test of capacitors at higher than usual conditions of temperature and voltage, a test of circuit boards at higher than usual conditions of temperature, humidity and voltage. A accelerated life test is extended to M-level stress accelerated life test with k-stress variables. The optimal design for Weibull distribution is studied with k-stress variables.

  • High temperature tensiles tests, steady state creep tests, internal stress tests and creep rupture tests using Al 7075 alloy were performed over the temperature range of 9$0^{\circ}C$~50$0^{\circ}C$ and stress range of 0.64~17.2(kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$) in order to investigate the creep behavior and predict creep rupture life From the apparent activation energy Qc and the applied stress exponent n measured, at the temperature range of 9$0^{\circ}C$~l2$0^{\circ}C$, the creep deformation seemed to be controlled by cross slip. On the other hand at the temperature of 20$0^{\circ}C$~23$0^{\circ}C$ the creep deformation seemed to be controlled by dislocation climb but at 47$0^{\circ}C$~50$0^{\circ}C$, by diffusion creep. And the rupture life(t$_{f}$) might be represented by anthermal process attributed to the difference of the applied stress dependence of Internal stress and the ratio of the Internal stress to the applied stress, the thermal activated process attributied to the temperature dependence of the internal stress. Also the ratio between stress dependence of primary creep rate and that of minimum creep rate was measured 0.46, the minimum creep rate is expected to be appromately obtained from master creep curve including the relationship primary creep rate and minumum creep rate. Finally the relationship new rupture parameter and logarithmic stress was represented with including the ratio between the dependence of primary creep rate and that of minimum creep rate, using the new rupture parameter the rupture life predition is exactly expected.d.

  • Themo-mechanical analysis was carried out using the finite element method for the steel shell of a cupola furnace. When the outer surface of the shell was cooled with water to within the temperature range of 35-80 ℃ during operation of the cupola, the inner surface of the shell was expected to exhibit a temperature of 65-248 ℃ based on heat transfer analysis. The shell was also expected to have an equivalent stress range of 100-280 MPa in the outer surface over the temperature range examined. Upon cooling the shell to obtain an outer surface temperature <80 ℃, the maximum equivalent stress of the shell did not exceed the yield strength. Although the temperature of the outer surface varied between 35 and 80 ℃ periodically due to the cooling control problem, the fatigue stress at the outer surface of the shell was calculated to be within the fatigue strength. During a non-operational period to examine the system between furnace operations, the thermal stress presented in the shell was sufficiently low to reach the desired yield strength and fatigue limit.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of self-foot reflexology on stress (perceived stress, urine cortisol level, and serum cortisol level), fatigue, skin temperature and immune response in female undergraduate students. Methods: The research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-post test design. Participants were 60 university students: 30 in the experiment group and 30 in the control group. The period of this study was from April to June 2010. The program was performed for 1 hr a session, three times a week for 6 weeks. The data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 17.0 program. Results: The results showed that self-foot reflexology was effective in reducing perceived stress and fatigue, and raised skin temperature in female undergraduate students. But cortisol levels and immune response were not statistically significant different. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that self-foot reflexology is an effective nursing intervention in reducing perceived stress and fatigue and, in improving skin temperature. Therefore, it is recommended that this be used in clinical practice as an effective nursing intervention for in female undergraduate students.

  • The effect of quenchant temperature on the surface residual stress was studied for AISI 8620 steel. Specimens were carburized at $900^{\circ}C$ in all case type furnace using a gas-base atmosphere of methanol cracked and liquefied petroleum gas, and then subjected to single reheat quenchant in oil or salt bath in the temperature range of $60^{\circ}C$ to $300^{\circ}C$. After carburizing and reheat Quenching, residual stress was measured by the hole drilling method. Experimental results showed that the surface residual stress was increased as the quenchant temperature was raised. This is in contrast to the fact that the formation of phase of low transformation strain such as bainite results in lower surface compressive stress. The greater compressive stress observed in specimens Quenched at higher temperature may be attributed to the shifting of the transformation start point farther from the surface, as was reported in other carburizing steels.

  • The problems of thermal stress and residual stress in resistance spot welding are studied from two standpoint namely, effect of temperature distributions and effect of the radius of free boundary. The radius of the region where the temperature distributions are occured is taken as a function of time after welding and as a finite size, 6 times of heated zone. The region of the radial stress distribution is treated as a function of time under Saint-Venant's principle and 6 or 12 times of originally heated zone. Thermal stresses and strains are obtained by analytic solution under constant mechanical properties and by the finite difference method for varing properties under temperature variation. From the computed results following conclusions are derived (1) For the engineering purpose, the region of temperature distribution and stress distribution can be treated as a finite region, $R=r_o=6r_e$ (2) If the maximum temperature of the aluminum alloy plate is less than $500^{\circ}F$, thermal stresses and strains can be obtained with constant mechanical properties. (3) The residual stresses and strains will be remained in welds and its vicinity.

  • The sealing performance of an elastomeric O-ring seat with a temperature gradient has been analyzed for the contact stress behaviors that develop between the O-ring seal and the surfaces with which it comes into contact. The leakage of an O-ring seal will occur when the pressure differential across the seal just exceeds the initial (or static) peak contact stress. The contact stress behaviors that develop in compressed O-rings, in common case of restrained geometry (grooved), are investigated using the finite element method. The analysis includes material hyperelasticity and axisymmetry. The computed FEM results show that the contact stress behaviors are related to a compression rate and a temperature gradient between the vacuum chamber with a groove and the contacting plate with a cooling jacket.

  • If there is a water flow with a range of temperature inside a pipe, the wanner water tends to float on top of the cooler water because it is lighter, resulting in the upper portion of the pipe being hotter than the lower portion. Under these conditions, such thermal stratification can play an important role in the aging of nuclear power plant piping because of the stress caused by the temperature difference and the cyclic temperature changes. This stress can limit the lifetime of the piping, even leading to penetrating cracks. Investigated in this study is the effect of thermal stratification on the structural integrity of the pressurizer surge line, which is reported to be one of the pipes most severely affected. Finite element models of the surge line are developed using several element types available in a general purpose structural analysis program and stress analyses are performed to determine the response characteristics for the various types of top-to-bottom temperature differentials due to thermal stratification. Fatigue analyses are also performed and an allowable environmental correction factor is suggested.

  • This study presents the thermal stress characteristics of TL porcelain insulators(healthy and ageing) by the accelerating thermal mechanical ageing test with forced temperature gradient. The test temperature gradient is $95^{\circ}C(-35{\sim}60^{\circ}C)$, it was focused to high temperature thermal stress as compared with IEC 60575 standard. There was no a discrimination in the case of healthy aluminous porcelain insulators, dissimilarly in crystoballite insulators according to this test method. It was indicated that the long tenn reliability by thermal stress was conformed reasonably through the conventional accelerating ageing test methods.
