Rotational capacity of pre-damaged I-section steel beams at elevated temperatures

  • Structures submitted to Fire-After-Earthquake loading situations, are first experiencing inelastic deformations due to the seismic action and are then submitted to the thermal loading. This means that in the case of steel framed structures, at the starting point of the fire, plastic hinges have already been formed at the ends of the beams. The basic objective of this paper is the evaluation of the rotational capacity of steel I-section beams damaged due to prior earthquake loading, at increased temperatures. The study is conducted numerically and three-dimensional models are used in order to capture accurately the nonlinear behaviour of the steel beams. Different levels of earthquake-induced damage are examined in order to study the effect of the initial state of damage to the temperature-evolution of the rotational capacity. The study starts with the reference case where the beam is undamaged and in the sequel cyclic loading patterns are taken into account, which represent earthquakes loads of increasing magnitude. Additionally, the study extends to the evaluation of the ultimate plastic rotation of the steel beams which corresponds to the point where the rotational capacity of the beam is exhausted. The aforementioned value of rotation can be used as a criterion for the determination of the fire-resistance time of the structure in case of Fire-After-Earthquake situations.

  • In this study, intermediate-mixed powders were prepared by loading zirconia powders initially in a ball-mill jar and loading alumina powders afterward; the initial-mixed powders were produced by loading zirconia and alumina powders together in the ball-mill jar. The effect of such differences in mixing method on the mechanical properties was investigated. In intermediate-mixed powders, the volume fraction of large particles slightly increased and, simultaneously, zirconia particles formed agglomerates that, due to early ball-mill loading of the zirconia powders only, were more dispersed than were the initial-mixed powders. For the intermediate-mixed powders, zirconia agglomerates were destroyed more quickly than were initial-mixed powders, so the number of dispersed zirconia particles rose and the inhibitory effect of densification due to the addition of a second phase was more obvious. In the microstructure of intermediate-mixed powders, zirconia grains were homogeneously dispersed and grain growth by coalescence was found to occur with increasing sintering temperature. For the initial-mixed powders, large zirconia grains formed by localized early-densification on the inside contacts of some zirconia agglomerates were observed in the early stages of sintering. The intermediate-mixed powders had slightly lower hardness values as a whole but higher fracture toughness compared to that of the initial-mixed powders.

  • Fatigue tests were conducted on SM45C steel using hour-glass shaped smooth tubular specimen under biaxial loading in order to investigate the crack formation and growth at room temperature. Three types of loading systems, were employed fully-reserved cyclic torsion without a superimposed static tension or compression fully-reserved cyclic torsion with a superimposed static tension and fully-reserved cyclic torsion with a superimposed static compression. The test results showed that a superimposed static tensile mean stress reduced fatigue life however a superimposed static compressive mean stress increased fatigue life. Experimental results indicated that cracks were initiated on planes of maximum shear strain whether or not the mean stresses were superimposed. A biaxial mean stress had an effect on the direction that the cracks nucleated and propagated at stage 1 (mode II).

계절에 따른 비강우시 팔당호의 유기물 유입부하량 (Loading of Organic Matter according to Seasonal Changes into Lake Paldang during Non-storm Period)

  • The study is conducted to evaluate loading of organic matter as seasonal changes during non-storm period into Lake Paldang which is used to a major drinking water source. Samples were taken in Lake Paldang intake during non-storm period and were analyzed loading of organic matter. From the results of the survey, improving of the water quality showed remarkable tendency depending on the changing periods from summer to fall and from fall to winter. Dilution effect from the increase of base run-off caused by the concentrated rainfall in rainy season, the characteristics of Korea's climate seems to have to be the reason. On the other hand, deteriorating of the water quality showed tendency depending on the changing periods from winter to spring and from spring to summer. Increase of Cyanobacteria etc. is explained by seasonal effects which are a small amount of the rainfall in winter and spring and gradational increase of water temperature.

  • 적재폐기물에서 발생하는 발효열의 발화요인 분석 자료를 기반으로 발생 원인을 규명하는 모니터링 시스템을 구성하였다. 화재 조기경보 유형별 시나리오의 구성과 신속성을 위해 실시간 런타임 환경을 제공하기 위한 유니버설미들웨어를 활용하였다. 적재폐기물의 적재 높이와 압력, 대표적인 구성폐기물인 목재, 건전지, 플라스틱 폐기물의 건조, 표면의 탄화변화를 동적으로 인지해야 한다. 따라서, 저온발화 화재 가능성 데이터 분석을 위한 IoT 상황인지 플랫폼을 동적으로 구성하여 제시하였다.

다양한 Sinusoidal 하중을 받는 아스팔트콘크리트 혼합물의 Moduli 값에 대한 비교연구 (Fundamental Comparison of Moduli Values in Asphalt Concrete Mixture due to Various Sinusoidal Loadings)

  • 본 시험은 다양한 sine파형을 가진 인장 및 압축 하중 하에서 아스팔트 혼합물의 모듀율값 을 비교평가하기 위하여 수행되었다. 즉, 휴식시간을 가진 반복 인장 haversine 하중, 휴식시간을 가진 반복 압축 haversine 하중, 주기적 인장하중, 주기적 압축하중, 그리고 주기적 인장-압축 반복하중이라는 총 5개의 하중형태가 32, 50, 68, 86, $104^{\circ}F$ (0, 10, 20, 30, $40^{\circ}C$) 라는 5개의 온도하에서 평가되었다. 시험결과, 휴식시간을 가진 반복 haversine 하중으로 인한 아스팔트 콘크리트의 인장 및 압축 모듀율 값은 저온에서 유사한 값을 나타내었지만, 고온에서는 상이한 값을 보였다. 특히, 고온에서 압축 모듀율 값은 인장 모듀율 값보다 높은 수치를 보였다. 또한, 저온에서 일축 직접인장 시험으로부터 구한 모듀율 값은 간접 인장시험으로부터 구한 모듀율 값보다 높은 값을 나타내었다. 그러나, 고온에서는 서로 유사한 값을 보였다. 일반적으로, 휴식시간을 갖는 반복 haversine 하중을 이용하여 얻은 모듀율 값은 주기적 sine파형을 가진 하중으로부터 구한 모듀율 값보다 항상 낮은 값을 나타내었으며 그 두 가지 하중으로부터 구한 모듀율 값의 차이는 온도가 감소함에 따라 더욱 증가되었다.

질소산화물 제거를 위한 디스크형 바나디아 촉매담지 세라믹필터의 특성 (Characteristics of Disc-Type V2O5 Catalyst Impregnated Ceramic Filters for NOx Removal)

  • The performance of disk-type catalytic filters impregnated by TiO$_2$ or TiO$_2$-3Al$_2$O$_3$ㆍ 2SiO$_2$ supports and V$_2$O$_{5}$ catalyst was evaluated for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with ammonia as a reductant. XRD, FT -IR, BET and SEM were used to characterize the catalytic filters prepared in this work. Optimal V$_2$O$_{5}$ loading and reaction temperature for V$_2$O$_{5}$/TiO$_2$ catalytic filters were 3-6 wt.% and 350-40$0^{\circ}C$ at GHSV 14,300 $hr^{-1}$ in the presence of oxygen, respectively. With increasing the V$_2$O$_{5}$ loading from 0.5 to 6 wt%, NO conversion increased from 24 to 96% at 40$0^{\circ}C$ and 14.300$hr^{-1}$, and maintained at 80% over in the V$_2$O$_{5}$ loading range of 3-6 wt.% and then dropped at V$_2$O$_{5}$ loading of 7wt.% over. In comparing V$_2$O$_{5}$/ TiO$_2$ and V$_2$O$_{5}$/ TiO$_2$-3Al$_2$O$_3$ㆍ2SiO$_2$ catalytic fillers, which have same 3wt.% V$_2$O$_{5}$ loading, the V$_2$O$_{5}$/ TiO$_2$-3A1$_2$O$_3$ㆍ2SiO$_2$ catalytic filter showed higher activity than V$_2$O$_{5}$/ TiO$_2$ catalytic filter, but higher differential pressure drops owing to its low air permeability. low air permeability.

Effect of Drug Loading on the Physicochemical Properties and Stability of Cationic Lipid-based Plasmid DNA Complexes

  • Recently, co-delivery of drug and gene has been attempted for higher therapeutic effects of anticancer agents. In this study, cationic liposomes were prepared using 1,2-dioleoyl-3-trimethylammoniopropane (DOTAP) as a cationic lipid to investigate the effect of drug loading on the physicochemical characteristics of cationic liposomes/DNA complexes. The complex formation between cationic liposomes and negatively charged plasmid DNA was confirmed and the protection from DNase was observed. Particle size of complexes was reduced not by drug loading, but by the increased ratio of cationic lipid to plasmid DNA. Meanwhile, zeta potential of complex was increased by the addition of cationic liposomes to complexes and the effect of drug loading on the zeta potential was not much higher than on particle size. Gel retardation of complexes was indicated when the complexation weight ratios of cationic lipid to plasmid DNA were higher than 24:1 for drug free complexes and 20:1 for drug loaded ones, respectively. Agarose gel retardation showed the similar complexation between plasmid DNA and drug free liposomes or drug loaded liposomes. Both complexes protected plasmid DNA from DNase independent of complexation temperature. From the results, drug loading may affect not the complex formation of cationic liposomes and plasmid DNA, but the particle size of complex.

환경하중을 고려한 콘크리트 포장 피로모형의 개발 (Development of Fatigue Model of Concrete Pavement Considering Environmental Loading)

  • 콘크리트 포장에 반복적으로 재하되는 차량의 하중에 의하여 슬래브의 동적강도는 꾸준히 감소하며 장기적으로 피로균열이 발생한다. 온도와 수분의 분포에 의하여 슬래브 내에는 항상 응력이 도입되어 있으므로 이를 고려한 후 차량하중의 영향을 추가해야만 보다 정확하게 콘크리트 포장의 피로수명을 예측할 수 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 기존에 개발된 대표적 피로모형들의 각종 인자들을 평가하고 모형으로부터 데이터를 추출하여 환경하중을 고려하는 새로운 피로모형을 개발하였다. 국내 각 지역의 기상 및 교통조건을 사용하여 국내에서 일반적으로 시공되는 콘크리트 포장에 대한 피로해석을 수행하여 개발된 피로모형의 적용성을 평가하였다. 슬래브 하부에서 발생한 상향의 균열보다는 슬래브 상부의 인장응력에 의한 하향의 균열이 피로파손의 주요한 원인으로 판단되었다. 본 연구결과를 바탕으로 한 후속 연구를 통하여 차량의 속도가 고려된 피로해석도 수행될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

PGSFR중간열교환기의 정상상태 고온 구조 건전성 평가 (Evaluation of High Temperature Structural Integrity of Intermediate Heat Exchanger in a Steady State Condition for PGSFR)

  • Four cylindrically shaped IHXs(Intermediate Heat Exchangers) are installed in the PHTS(Primary Heat Transfer System) of the PGSFR(Prototype Gen IV Sodium cooled Fast Reactor). As for the IHX, the temperature difference of structure is inevitable result caused by heat transfer between primary coolant sodium and IHTS(Intermediate Heat Transport System) sodium. It is necessary to evaluate the high temperature structural integrity of IHXs which operate at the elevated temperature condition over the creep temperature. In this paper, the high temperature structural integrity of IHX under assumed loading conditions has been reviewed according to ASME code.
