The effect of the system factors on the shape of the S/L interface in GaAs single crystal grown by VGF method (VGF법을 사용한 GaAs 단결정 성장시 계의 구성요소가 고액계면의 형상에 미치는 영향)

  • It is well known that the position and the shape of the S/L interface affect the qualities of the single crystal in the growth process. Thus the information of the temperature profile in the growth system is very important. In this study, we developed the program to predict the temperature profile from the setting values of the heating blocks in VGF(vertical gradient freezing) single crystal growth system. With this program, we studied the effects of the materials and the sizes of support rod, the materials of the crucible on the S/L interface shape. The larger radius and/or smaller thermal diffusivity support rod was, the flatter the S/L interface was. When the thermal conductivity of crucible was isotropic, the S/L interface was more concave downward to the solid phase in proportional to the increase of thermal diffusivity of the crucible. By the comparison of the S/L interface shape between PBN crucible and quartz crucible for the same condition, the effect of anisotropy of thermal conductivity of crucible showed different trends with respect to the position of the S/L interface.

Aging of Korean Nuclear Manpower and Implications of Manpower Policy: Statistical Analysis on Nuclear Organizations (한국 원자력 인력의 고령화와 인력정책의 함의: 원자력 관련기관 인력통계 분석)

  • In Korea, there are increasing concerns on nuclear manpower demand and supply due to construction of domestic nuclear power plants and exporting nuclear power plant. In addition, aging of nuclear manpower is another important concern for stable nuclear manpower demand and supply. A shortage of skilled high-quality human resources resulted in massive retirements of senior workers may seriously undermine Korean nuclear competitiveness. This paper analyzed current state of aging of nuclear manpower based on statistical analysis on Korean nuclear organizations. The data used in this paper is manpower statistics of domestic nuclear organizations surveyed in 2001 and 2010. This paper analyzed trends of manpower change for 10 years and based on these analyses, has reviewed the level of the aging nuclear manpower by surveyed organization and integrated. Finally, this paper suggested to direction of manpower recruitment to cope with aging nuclear manpower and alternatives to find a solution to problems of nuclear manpower demand and supply.

A Study on Design Development of Environment-friendly Mobile Home Sauna (친환경 모바일 홈 사우나 디자인 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The appeal of sauna is caused by the fact that through that, one can feel Korea's unique temperament and culture; however, because of its being a public facility and flooding of businesses due to excessive supplies of various additional features such as washing, playing, eating, sleeping and health care functions, issues of social resources and environment come to the fore, so it has reached a situation of red ocean that it is difficult to enter the market anymore. Taking these into account, this study focused on developing a thermal technology and design of the housing of an environment-friendly mobile home sauna, making the most use of the sauna's fundamental purpose and settling it as a tourist product, analyzing the marketing research on the existing sauna and considering the recent housing trends and lifestyles for a new concept sauna. Thus, regarding its characteristics and utilization, it was designed smaller than $10m^2$ (3 pyeong) so that it would be easy to install in any space and convenient to move. It can be installed in separate buildings and rest spaces such as country houses, resorts, pensions, camping grounds as well as outdoor houses, custom produced for a measure of pyeong that customers want so as to match up with the Enforcement Ordinance of the Agricultural Land Act in a concept of the farmer's hut and kitchen, bathroom and bathroom can be installed inside according to an option. In addition, regarding its efficacy, in order to give environment-friendly healing effects, materials such as Hinoki Cypress, red clay and hardwood charcoal were used, a fixed indoor temperature of $70{\sim}100^{\circ}C$ was maintained by heating methods such as electromagnetic wave free, energy saving and low-power boiler, and it was made to have excellent effects on fatigue recovery, relieving stress, skin care and diet through far-infrared emission.

An Analysis on Research Funding of Geosciences in Korea (우리나라 지질자원분야 연구예산 지원에 관한 분석연구)

  • This study analyzed trends in geoscientific research funding provided by the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF) and examined strategies to promote geoscientific research. The strengths of geoscientific research in South Korea include the excellent academic quality of researchers, established research infrastructure, and inter-disciplinary research. Weaknesses include insufficient leadership in related societies and institutes, insufficient research productivity, and the exclusion of the field from nationally supported large-scale research projects. Opportunities for expanded research include environmental issues, the sustainable use of natural resources, the promotion of international research cooperation, and the initiation of national efforts to find solutions for regional problems. However, growth in the geosciences is threatened by prioritized investment in fields such as biotechnology, nanoscience, and information technology, a dismissive attitude toward the growth of basic sciences, and an increased demand for projects with visible economic and societal impacts. In terms of funding, group-based programs receive more support than individual-based programs. Between 1978 and 2006, KOSEF invested 1,744 billion won ($1.873 billion US) in a total of 46,748 basic research projects. Of this amount, 62.1 billion won ($66.7 million US) was allocated to 1,901 projects in the geosciences, which was roughly 2.6-10.6% of the money available in a given year. These funds were used to support research and development, the development and maintenance of necessary infrastructure, and the education and training of geoscientists.

Horticultural Activity Interventions and Outcomes: A Review

  • The objective of the present study was to review the current research about the outcomes of horticultural activity interventions in order to determine research trends and analyze the characteristics of horticultural activity interventions. We reviewed the literature using search engines such as the Web of Science, Proquest Dissertation and Theses, Academic Search Premier, Research Information sharing Service, and Korean National Assembly Digital Library to locate journal articles that include relevant search terms (e.g., gardening activity, gardening program, allotment garden, urban agriculture, horticultural therapy, and horticultural activity). We initially identified 14,414 journal articles that were published before April 2014 and selected 509 of the papers for review. We found that studies investigating treating children and adults 8 to 64 years old were the most common, and horticultural activities such as gardening outdoors, planting indoors, making crafts with live plants, arranging flowers, making crafts with artificial or pressed flowers, and other activities were usually combined. Short/medium term (11 to 20 sessions) horticultural activity programs were the most frequent, and most interventions were of medium duration (> 60 min to 120 min). Most of the studies focused on the psychological or emotional effects of horticultural intervention, such as its effects on emotional intelligence, self-esteem, stress, and depression. Further studies are needed to analyze the research methodology, specific outcomes, and strengths or weaknesses of studies investigating horticultural activity interventions.

The Performance and Emission Characteristics on Operating Condition for the SI Engine Fuel with Gasoline-Ethanol and Hydrogen Enriched Gas (에탄올 및 수소농후가스 혼합연료 기관의 운전영역에 따른 성능 및 배기 특성)

  • Trends of the automotive market require the application of new engine technologies, which allows for the use of different types of fuel. Since ethanol is a renewable source of energy and it contributes to lower $CO_2$ emissions, ethanol produced from biomass is expected to increase in use as an alternative fuel. It is recognized that for spark ignition (SI) engines ethanol has advantages of high octane number and high combustion speed. In spite of the advantages of ethanol, fuel supply system might be affected by fuel blends with ethanol like a wear and corrosion of electric fuel pumps. So the on-board hydrogen production out of ethanol reforming can be considered as an alternative plan. This paper investigates the influence of ethanol fuel on SI engine performance, thermal efficiency and emissions. The results obtained from experiments have shown that specific fuel consumption has increased by increasing ethanol amount in the blend whereas decreased by the use of hydrogen-enriched gas. The combustion characteristics with hydrogen-enriched gaseous fuel from ethanol reforming are also examined.

  • For various geospatial information such as planimetric and topographic features, the required accuracy may be defined depending on the purpose of GIS applications. Also, the accuracy of the geospatial information have a major impact on the quality of the raw surveying data. In order to be usefully applied the precise geospatial information, the accuracy standards must be appropriately set so that the digital map as base map can be accurately made. Before computer mapping and GIS technology existed, paper maps were drawn by hand. So, the map scale was a significant contributor to the map accuracy. As such the past, the accuracy of maps is determined the scale at which the map would be drawn, but recent trends are to treat accuracy as a one of quality elements, rather than a specification for producing the map. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to set the new korean map accuracy standards appropriate for the construction and application of the precise geospatial information on behalf of the current representation of korean digital maps.

Office within the home is called SOHO (Small Office Home Office). SOHO has become possible with the development of information and telecommunication network technology. Recently. companies are adopting the SOHO system along with the trends of business restructuring. The SOHO offers workers to enjoy more flexible work time and enhance concentration thus improving jop efficiency. Companies will be able to cut down on fixed expenses and increase productivity. In addition. such working conditions will contribute to relieve traffic and environmental problems and furthermore it will make it possible to take advantage of potential workforce of women. the elderly and the handicapped. "Home Office" is expected to be one of the prevailing work system in the near future. Therefore. it is all the more important to study design problems including space design and furniture arrangement in order to improve work efficiency and provide a creative working environment. Moreover. architects and interior designers as well as experts on related fields such as information network. telecommunications. management and employment should continue to carry out joint researches for reasonable home office furniture and environment design.nd environment design.

Epidemiological Characteristics of Scab of Japanese Apricot in Korea

  • Scabs caused by Venturia carpophila greatly reduce the quality of the fruits of the Japanese apricot (Prunus mume) when the disease is not properly managed. The disease produces a superficial blemish that is unlikely to affect the overall yield of processed fruit, but reduce the value of fruit intended for the fresh market. Incidence rates of scab at sprayed and unsprayed orchards range from 0% to 21.5% and from 30.2% to 100%, respectively, in the major cultivation regions of Jeonnam Province during the growing season of 2009. The trends in disease progress were quite similar, regardless of regions, and cultivar Namgo was relatively less damaged by scab compared to cultivar Cheonmae among the tested Japanese apricot cultivars. The fruits on branches 1.5 m above the infected Japanese apricot trees and the stem-end parts of the infected fruits were more severely damaged by scabs, possibly because of rain and run-off facilitate dissemination of conidia of V. carpophila and subsequent infection of the fruits or branches. The conidia of V. carpophila were dispersed from March 24 to April 26 in 2010, and more conidia were dispersed from 2-year-old branches than 1-year-old branches. Since the control efficacies were higher than 90% after more than two applications of Trifloxystrobin WG at 10-day-intervals from mid April, it is that effective fungicides be applied at least two times at 10-day-intervals from the middle of April to manage scabs of Japanese apricot in orchards.

Morphological Representation of Channel Network by Dint of DEM (DEM을 이용한 수로망의 형태학적 표현)

  • The procedures for identifying channel network are suggested by exploring the scaling property between the local slope and the contributing area, given that the area threshold criterion is an indispensable complement to the slope-area threshold criterion. Through the use of the above procedures and the field data, the basin slopes illustrate the trends of large scatters in space for the geomorphologic/topographic factors. According to the scaling regimes of them both the forms of landscape can be classified as topographic divergence and convergence. The presentation of the procedures proposed in this study is implemented in the case study on Seolma experimental catchment in Korea. As a result the dynamic behaviors of basin are confirmed, and thus the dynamics of channel head advance and channel network are shown to represent better than the method using the topographic chart manually.
