  • Nano-hydroxyapatite (N-HAp)has shown the pivotal role in producing bone-regenerative materials since it has similarity to natural bone minerals in terms of size, morphology, and the composition. Currently, the combination of biopolymers and N-HAp is recognizedas an attractive approach in generating hybrid scaffolds for bone tissueengineering. Surface engineering is an important issue since it determines whether cells can effectively adhere and proliferate on porous scaffolds. We aim to develop a synthetic approach to porous 3D scaffolds by immobilizing N-HAp on pore surfaces. The discrete nano-level anchoring of N-HAp on the scaffold pore surface is achieved using surface-repellent stable colloidal N-HAp with surface phosphate functionality. This rational surface engineering enables surface-anchored N-HAp to express its overall intrinsic bioactivity, since N-HAp is not phase-mixed with the polymers. The porous polymer scaffolds with surface-immobilized N-HAp provide more favorable environments thanconventional bulk phase-mixed polymer/N-HAp scaffolds in terms of cellular interaction and growth. In vitro biological evaluation using alkalinephosphatase activity assay supports that immobilized N-HAp on pore surfaces of polymer scaffolds contributed to the more enhanced in vitro osteogenicpotential. Besides, the scaffolds with surface-exposed N-HAp provide favorable environments for enhanced in vivo bone tissue growth, estimated by characteristic biomarkers of bone formation such as collagen. The results suggest that newly developed hybrid scaffolds with surface-immobilized N-HApmay serve as a useful 3D substrate with pore surfaces featuring excellent bonetissue-regenerative properties. • This study was conducted to identify the differences in proteomic characteristics between Ca-enriched king oyster mushrooms and general king oyster mushrooms. A combined high-throughput proteomic approach was employed to determine the expression profiles and identity of proteins using 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry. The overall distribution patterns of the proteins were quite similar, but many of the protein spot intensities varied. A total of 10 proteins, representing a significant difference in the quantities of protein betweenthe two types of mushrooms, were successfully identified. Among these proteins, eight kinds were increased in the Ca-enriched king oyster mushrooms and two kinds were decreased. This study showed that proteomic analysis can help define specific changes in protein level and composition, which can occur in mushrooms where Ca content may or may not be enriched.

  • Purpose: The recent major recalls of hazardous products caused consumer product safety acts to be strengthen worldwide. Although the recall system of hazardous products in Korea has been operating based on Framework Act on Product Safety since 2011, the evaluation of product risk has been relied on not the results of objective incident data but the results of illegal product investigations. The purpose of this paper is to propose a product risk assessment model for Korea using injury data. Methods: The authors derived Korea's risk assessment method by analysing the advantages and disadvantages of the most widely used models in advanced countries such as EU's RAPEX RAG and Janpan's R-MAP. In this study, the level of relative frequency and severity of injury are determined based on the objective incident data and the length of hospitalization respectively. In addition, the injury data occurred during 2011 is applied to the proposed risk assessment model for case study. Results: The data analysed in this paper can be classified as high risk, medium risk, low risk, acceptable risk, and safe products through the matrix f rom the combination of the relative frequency and the severity derived. Conclusion: The proposed risk assessment model in this study has advantage obtaining reliable objective results because it uses actual injury data and redeems the drawbacks of the existing models used in advanced countries. Furthermore, because the proposed model shows the high risk products among many, it is expected to be useful especially for customs whose main job is inspecting the imported goods and the government when selecting the target product groups for safety investigation.

  • In the course of in vitro and in vivo screening for bioherbicidal agents, a hyphomycete fungus, Myrothecium sp. F0252 was selected as a candidate for the biocontrol of weeds. The isolate was identified as Myrothecium roridum Tode ex. Fries based on the morphological characteristics and 18S ribosomal DNA sequence analysis and registered as Myrothecium roridum F0252. In order to evaluate the in vitro effect of M. roridum F0252 on germination of ladino clover and white clover (Trifolium repens L.) seeds, spore solution of the fungus was employed in two concentrations, $6.5{\times}10^6$ and $2.5{\times}10^7$ spores per mL and then inoculated to the seeds. The fungal spores inhibited the seed germination, infected the seedlings, and caused an abnormal withering and inhibition of seedling growth. In addition, when the herbicidal activity of crude ethyl acetate extract from the liquid culture was assessed on a mini-plant, duck-weed (Lemna paucicostata (L.) Hegelm.), the extract showed high inhibitory effect at the level of $12.5{\mu}g$ per mL. On the other hand, in vivo herbicidal activity of M. roridum F0252 was evaluated by a whole plant spray method. M. roridum F0252 exhibited strong and broad-spectrum herbicidal activity. The herbicidal values ranged from 95-100% against 7 weeds, including Abutilon avicennae and Xanthium strumarium, and 70-80% against Digitaria sanguinalis and Sagittaria pygmaea. When the nutritional utilization (95 carbon sources) pattern of M. roridum F0252 was investigated, it varied with water activity ($a_w$) and temperature conditions, supplying good, basic information in regard to nutritional utilization for proper cultivation and formulation. Our results showed that M. roridum F0252 might be used as a potential biocontrol agent against weedy plants.

  • Demands for housing has diversified recently due to low birth rate and the growth of aging population. Also, a share of idle houses and obsolete houses over 20 years old is gradually rising. Therefore, there is a need for a sustainable, environment-friendly improvement policy that is in line with a new housing paradigm and avoids full-scale new construction, such as a customized housing renovation plan considering local economic circumstances. Therefore, afforestation system applicable to buildings are assessed positively, but lack objective performance evaluation. Through one-year, long-term monitoring of replicated obsolete buildings that have poor insulation performance, this study calculated monthly average power consumption and analyzed power charges by applying pricing plans before and after the revision of progressive tax in order to examine economic effects expected by applying the afforestation system. In the obsolete buildings, the study showed that monthly average power consumption was reduced by 16.6kWh with 5.2% average reduction rate. Highest reduction was made in July at 11.3%. Aggregate monthly power consumption charges were relatively high in winter before and after the revision of progressive tax. Power charges reduction effect was highest in March when monthly power consumption was reduced to 300kWh level by applying the afforestation system.

  • Optimal sensor placement (OSP) is a critical issue in construction and implementation of a sophisticated structural health monitoring (SHM) system. The uncertainties in the identified structural parameters based on the measured data may dramatically reduce the reliability of the condition evaluation results. In this paper, the information entropy, which provides an uncertainty metric for the identified structural parameters, is adopted as the performance measure for a sensor configuration, and the OSP problem is formulated as the multi-objective optimization problem of extracting the Pareto optimal sensor configurations that simultaneously minimize the appropriately defined information entropy indices. The nondirective movement glowworm swarm optimization (NMGSO) algorithm (based on the basic glowworm swarm optimization (GSO) algorithm) is proposed for identifying the effective Pareto optimal sensor configurations. The one-dimensional binary coding system is introduced to code the glowworms instead of the real vector coding method. The Hamming distance is employed to describe the divergence of different glowworms. The luciferin level of the glowworm is defined as a function of the rank value (RV) and the crowding distance (CD), which are deduced by non-dominated sorting. In addition, nondirective movement is developed to relocate the glowworms. A numerical simulation of a long-span suspension bridge is performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the NMGSO algorithm. The results indicate that the NMGSO algorithm is capable of capturing the Pareto optimal sensor configurations with high accuracy and efficiency.

  • BIM technology has been used in the domestic AEC field since the middle 2000s. BIM has proved its worth in cutting-edge buildings, mega-buildings and freeform buildings in particular. Many freeform buildings could not be completed due to the low level of construction technique. However, many successful cases emerged after adopting digital technology, including BIM which encouraged architects to challenge freeform designs. The modeling software that can generate the freeform shape are not usually able to build the efficient BIM data type in the AEC industry. In this study a process model of the parametric freeform construction member generation and conversion to BIM data is shown and the prototype system is demonstrated.

  • The satellite is exposed to various launch environments such as random vibrations and shock. Accordingly, structural design of electronic equipment mounted on satellite must meet reliability requirements at the box level. In addition, it is essential to secure the reliability of the solder joint applied to electronic equipment. In this paper, we performed a modal and quasi-static analysis for the purpose of satisfaction of the design requirements of the CCB (Camera Controller Box) present on the 500 kg-class compact advanced satellite (CAS500). In addition, structural safety of electronic components was verified by the Steinberg's method and random equivalent static analysis.

  • This study attempted to obtain the basic data of utilizable possibility of preservative treated wood as a material used in a marine ranch. To evaluate the leaching stability of CCA-, CCFZ-, and ACQ-treated woods in seawater, the specimens treated with 2% and 3% (w/v) of CCA, CCFZ, and ACQ were exposed to deionized water, synthetic seawater and natural seawater for 41 days and then each component released was periodically determined. There was little amount of copper and chromium released from CCA-treated wood exposed in both deionized and seawater. Although relatively large amount of arsenic was released from CCA-treated wood, the release rate in seawater was lower than that in deionized water. The release rate of chromium and zinc from CCFZ-treated wood were somewhat greater in deionized water, but lower in seawater than in deionized water. Retention level and salinity of synthetic seawater had little effect on the release rate of components. The ACQ-treated wood had greater copper release than CCA- and CCFZ-treated wood, and the amount of copper released did not affected by leaching media used.

  • As business management has a high level of dependence on Informational Technology (IT), protecting assets of a company from disaster is one of the most important thing that IT operating managers should consider. Because data or information is a major source of operation of the company, data security is the first priority as an aspect of continuity of business management. Therefore, this paper will realize disaster recovery system, which is suspended because of disaster, based on cloud computing system. Realized High Available Replicate System applied a method of multi thread target database to improve Replicate performance, and real time synchronize technology can improve efficiency of network. From Active to Active operation, it maximizes use of backup system, and it has a effect to disperse load of source database system. Also, High Available Replicate System realized consistency verification mechanism and monitoring technique. For Performance evaluation, High Available Replicate System used multi thread method, which shows more than threefold of replicate performance than single thread method.
