  • In this study. a technical report management system using optical technology is described in detail. This management system is designed for both bibliographic (character) and full-text (image) information. Several optical filing systems already on the Korean market are scrutinized and compared with standard functions in order to build a more efficient management system for technical reports which can be easily integrated into existing KRISS library automation system. For that purpose, up-to-date technologies (i.e., digital image PI-ocessing (DIP), MARC standards, and optical character recognition (OCR), etc.) are applied to this system.

  • This study aims to assess the impacts of COVID-19 on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), because of the problems associated with changing and amending the financial reports according to the policies established based on the circumstances of the epidemic. The study sample targeted several international financial reports that were amended based on epidemic conditions. The revised financial reporting period provides standardized reporting procedures for financial transactions worldwide despite the pandemic. Therefore, IFRS has been used to reduce challenges in financial reporting by monitoring the duration of social distancing while reporting matters to eliminate confirmed uncertainty and judgment. After analyzing the data obtained through global search engines, the results conducted provided evidence that COVID-19 affects financial reporting in companies around the world. Therefore, companies face difficulty reporting finances based on the challenging environment that the pandemic represents. Besides, IFRS fair value measurements consider the prices that were predicted according to current market values. The contexts of the changing the standards by IFRS to curb the effects of the COVID19 financial reporting was attained through evaluation of the online files that were randomly selected and filtered to obtain valid data.

  • Bile acids are essential molecules produced by vertebrates that are involved in several physiological roles, including the uptake of nutrients. Bacterial isolates capable of producing bile acids de novo have been identified and characterized. Such isolates may provide access to novel biochemical pathways suitable for the design of microbial cell factories. Here, we further characterized the ability of Maribacter dokdonensis, Dokdonia donghaensis, and Myroides pelagicus to produce bile acids. Contrary to previous reports, we did not observe de novo production of bile acids by these isolates. Instead, we found that these isolates deconjugated the amino acid moiety of bile acids present in the growth medium used in previous reports. Through genomic analysis, we identified putative bile salt hydrolases, which could be responsible for the different bile acid modifications observed. Our results challenge the hypothesis of de novo microbial bile acid production, while further demonstrating the diverse capacity of bacteria to modify bile acids.

  • Concordance of high school courses of mathematics and physics is a long-known and still-unsolved problem, at least in Russia. Lyceum "Physical-Technical High School" exists for more than 20 years and endeavors to solve this problem. During this work, Lyceum teachers worked out certain ideology of educational content as well as methods of teaching specific topics. Textbooks and workbooks have been written for the Lyceum students by the Lyceum teachers (or in collaboration with them). This article reports on the cumulate experience of the Lyceum in mathematical education of future physicists.

  • This study aims to provide divers with improved sqfe diving practices by analyzing reports on scuba diving casualties that recently (from 1997-2003) occurred in Korea, Japan and USA The result of this study may contribute to reduce the diving accident. The data were collected through the diving accident reports of various sources, which include reports of the KUA (Korea Underwater Association) technical committee, the accident statistical data of Korea Coast Guard, articles of domestic and foreign scuba diving magazines, accident reports of various newspapers, annual reports on decompression illness and diving fatalities by DAN (Diver Alert Network), diving accident data reported to local and national seminars, and medical treatment data of diving accident. The analysis focused on the diving casualties and the result showed that the casualty rate in Korea was 2.8 and 2.2 times higher than those in Japan and USA, respectively.

  • Typically, we regularly have carried out a technical review to know a progress status and outcomes of a project to the appropriate technical plans. But during the technical review executed at a planned point of time, lots of problems; reports of an ambiguous progress status and outcomes, a discordance between opinions, and an hour's delay, have been occurred. To solve those problems an early stage, an informal reviews are executed before the formal technical review. One of the informal review is the Peer-Review. This paper is a matter of the effective and efficient Reer-Review process utilized in performing the national research and development project. Additionally, it was presented a general misunderstanding and improvement plan about the Peer-Review.

  • This paper reports the field measurements concerning pressure equalization of rainscreen facades carried out at the Technical University of Eindhoven (TUE) in the Netherlands. The field facility including the details of test panel, meteorological tower, instrumentation, data collection and analysis is presented. Results of investigations into cavity response for various leakage and venting configurations are discussed. Frequency domain techniques have been utilized to show the influence of wind as well as facade characteristics on the pressure equalization performance. Further, this paper presents an early attempt to synthesize the experimental results into existing building codes.

  • Background/Aims: Situs inversus viscerum (SIV) is a congenital condition defined by left-to-right transposition of all visceral organs. This anatomical variant has caused technical challenges in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Data on ERCP in patients with SIV are limited to case reports of unknown clinical and technical success rates. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and technical success rates of ERCP in patients with SIV. Methods: Data from patients with SIV who underwent ERCP were retrospectively reviewed. The data were collected by querying the nationwide Veterans Affairs Health System database for patients diagnosed with SIV who underwent ERCP. Patient demographics and procedural characteristics were collected. Results: Eight patients with SIV who underwent ERCP were included. Choledocholithiasis was the most common indication for ERCP (62.5%). The technical success rate was 63%. Subsequent ERCP with interventional radiology-assisted rendezvous has increased the technical success rate to 100%. Clinical success was achieved in 63% of cases. Among cases of subsequent rendezvous ERCP after conventional ERCP failure, clinical success was achieved in 100%. Conclusions: The clinical and technical success rates of ERCP in patients with SIV were both 63%. In patients with SIV in whom ERCP fails, interventional radiology-assisted rendezvous ERCP can be considered.
