The current study aims to examine the effect of Hofstede's dimensions of culture on the intention of sharing knowledge in higher education institutions (HEIs) in Jordan. In the literature, researchers have given limited attention to such an effect. Therefore, by adopting Hofstede's framework, the current study attempts to investigate how Jordan's cultural context impacts on the intentions to share knowledge in HEIs. This study applied quantitative research methods to investigate the effect of Hofstede's cultural dimensions on knowledge-sharing intentions. In total, 307 questionnaires were collected from employees in Jordanian universities and, then, tested using descriptive and regression analytical methods. The study results show that culture dimensions influence knowledge-sharing intention and that each dimension plays a different role in enhancing this knowledge-sharing intention. More specifically, it was found that long-term orientation, collectivism and high uncertainty avoidance had a positive effect on knowledge-sharing intention, while cultural masculinity and power distance had no negative effect. Based on these results, the study makes several recommendations, the most important of which is the promotion of cultural values that encourage intention to share knowledge. Also, more qualitative research is needed to explore in depth the effective means that encourage intentions to share different types of knowledge.

Being in a knowledge-based industry, many construction organizations are seeking to manage their own knowledge in an effective way. To manage knowledge, the organizations must motivate in-house people to share their knowledge. However, some barriers to knowledge sharing do exist and researches on these barriers considering construction organizations' characteristics seem rare. This study aims to identify key barriers to knowledge sharing considering the characteristics of construction organizations. Based on the identification, strategic responses to each key barrier are presented in two perspectives of technical and behavioral approach to activate knowledge sharing.

The relationship between the knowledge, attitude, and practice of the person in charge of designating a Class III facility was analyzed to improve its practice. As a field of knowledge, system knowledge and technical knowledge were considered, and attitudes were divided into cognitive, affective, and behavioral attitudes. A knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) survey was conducted, and the relationship among them was analyzed through correlation and regression analyses. The factors affecting the level of practice in designating the Class III facility were technical knowledge in the field of knowledge and cognitive and behavioral attitudes in the field of attitudes. Cognitive and behavioral attitudes were the two factors that most influenced the practice of designating a Class III facility. It is thought that the higher the level of cognitive and behavioral attitudes, the greater the ability to practice designating the Class III facility. The general characteristics of respondents influencing cognitive and behavioral attitudes were analyzed by safety inspection.
Purpose : This study compared before and after emergency patient evaluation education of the 1st graders at the department emergency medical technology(EMT) students, and analyzed its effects on patient evaluation ability after education. The aims of this study was to develop effective educational program and to provide basic materials for its educational method. Methods : This study was carried out by 66 first graders attending the department of emergency medical technology(EMT) at a college in G province and data were collected from Apr. 1 to 2, 2009. The questionnaire consisted of knowledge of emergent patient evaluation, academic self-efficacy, and technical performance after emergent patient evaluation education. We analyzed the influence of knowledge and academic self-efficacy on accurate technical performance with SPSS 14.0 version. Results : 1. In knowledge score, it was 9.27 before education and increased to 35.19 after education and that there was statistically significant difference. In academic self-efficacy, task difficulty preference scored 2.73 before education and 3.97 after education, self-control efficacy scored 2.84 before education and 4.05 after education, self-confidence scored 2.45 before education and 4.21 after education. There were statistically significant increases after education. Technical performance scored 0.00 before education, but it scored 18.78 after education and there was statistically significant increase after education. 2. In sex as one of general characteristics, self-confidence which was sub-factor of academic self-efficacy scored higher in male students(4.28) than in female students(4.10). There was statistically significant difference(p < 0.05). 3. Knowledge had positive correlation with self-control efficacy which was the sub-factor of academic self-efficacy(r = 0.249, p < 0.05) and self-confidence which is the sub-factor of academic self-efficacy had the positive correlation with technical performance(r = 0.258, p < 0.05). 4. Self-confidence which was the sub-factor of academic self-efficacy(B = 0.372, p < 0.05) had statistically significant influence on technical performance. ability of self-confidence to explain technical performance(R2) was 11.10%. Conclusion : From the results of this study, it is necessary that EMT students should learn professional first aid, accurate patient evaluation through self-efficacy development.

Purpose : The first case of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) disease outbreak in Korea occurred in January 2020, and the cumulative number of confirmed cases by the Central Defense Response Headquarters of the Quality Management Administration as of November 30 was 34,201. Looking at the incidence trend of domestic confirmed cases by age, the incidence rate of COVID-19 in the age group of 20-29 years, which corresponds to college students, was 27.4 %, the highest compared by age group. Considering the current status of the infection rate, universities will become the centers of new COVID-19 cases if face-to-face lectures are recommenced without preparatory measures and analysis of infection prevention (e.g., infection awareness and education for university students). Thus, this study intended to investigate the level of knowledge, educational needs, and preventive behavior performance of college students about COVID-19 and provide basic data for the development of an education program for the prevention of COVID-19 for college students. Methods : This study is a descriptive correlational study aimed to investigate the correlation between knowledge about COVID-19, educational needs, and degree of preventive behavior performance in 407 college students attending one University in Gyeonggi-do. Results : The subjects' knowledge score about COVID-19 was 12.46±1.39 points, average educational needs score was 29.16±3.14 points, and prevention behavior performance survey result was 35.50±3.61 points. Moreover, positive correlation was observed between the knowledge about COVID-19 and educational needs (r=.203, p<.001) and knowledge and preventive behavior performance (r=.140, p=.005). Further, educational needs and preventive behavior performance demonstrated a statistically significant positive relationship (r=.311, p<.001). Conclusion : Therefore, organizing an educational program to acquire accurate knowledge is necessary to make it a habit for college students to practice preventive behavior against COVID-19.

Healthcare design has been considered as one of the most complex design types. In this study, healthcare design complexity is analysed by the following categories: (1) function; (2) medical technology; (3) scientific knowledge; (4) aesthetics; and (5) interest group complexity. The central questions here are: (1) What is the impact of specialized knowledge on the professional practice; and (2) What are the relationships between design complexity and specialized knowledge. To answer these questions, this study utilizes two approaches, including mail-out questionnaires survey and in-person and focus group interviews. This study found that healthcare design architects emphasize the technical component of specialized healthcare design knowledge. Thus they perceive that architectural research, as a tool to increase specialized healthcare design knowledge, is beneficial to solve the technical components including medical technology and functional problems. In the professional practice, however, architectural research is hardly conducted due mainly to the lack of money and time for it. Different perceptions regarding healthcare design complexity and architectural research among the firms exist, depending on the firm size. These results imply that the knowledge management strategy of large firms can be more efficient to the organizational growth than the small firms.
The purpose of this study is to categorize group of firms by using characteristics of technical innovation in telecommunication industry and to identify relationships between types of technical innovation and such contingency factors of technical innovation. The major findings of this study are summarized as follows; First, Type 1 Group (Innovative Industry Leading Group) tends to use innovative and market differentiation strategy and has more innovative C.E.O's management style and innovative culture. Second, Type 2 Group (Dependent Group on Market Change) tends to use market differentiation or cost leadership strategy and has a more conservative C.E.O's management style and non-innovative culture. Third, Type 3 Group (Small Technology Intensive Group) tends to use focused innovative strategy and has a more innovative C.E.O's management style and innovative culture. Fourth, Type 4 Group (Non-Innovative Group) tends to use focused cost leadership strategy and has a more conservative C.E.O's management style and non-innovative culture.

Water flow in rivers during flood season can be 10 to 100 fold higher than normal seasons (low precipitation) in Japan and predicting flood runoff is essential for operating reservoirs with discharging gates. Abundant experiences and knowledge are requisites for operators to be able to make efficient decisions at work. This research investigated a method to transfer technical knowledge by acquiring skills and knowledge from actual dam operators and by using the information to construct an educational training system. The purpose of the research was to enable the execution of a secure and rational reservoir operation during flood period. The educational training system for reservoir operation was developed with the focuses on acquiring knowledge on hydraulics and hydrology and learning about decision making related to the reservoir operation as well as the timing of control. The system is capable of conducting education that corresponds to individual levels in each location. Of the educational training methods, a lecture method that uses textbooks is effective for the understanding of basic knowledge and concepts while a training method that uses a simulation device is essential for the practice of advanced and specialized procedures in specific fields. Simulation devices are used in operational training for airplane flight and driving cars and trains. The educational system presented here was designed to provide further assistance to those who have acquired basic knowledge and concepts through textbooks and also to at low them to perform the satisfactory operation of dam equipment. Our research proposes a method which can realize a system to acquire technical skills-the skills which are the foundation of technical knowledge and operation.

Education and training of technical staff for the new generation technological equipment has a vital importance for developing countries in order to maintain sustainable development and keep up with new generation technologies. Mechatronics the synergistic combination of mechanical, electronic and software engineering from an engineering perspective to serve the purposes of controlling advanced hybrid systems is a product of new generation technology which can be given as a sample to this phenomenon. Recent marine engines are combination of heavy industry with high technology. Nowadays, ships are built in full automation and equipped with computer controlled mechatronics systems. However, finding qualified officer and engineers who can operate, maintain, control and repair when it is required such full automatic systems with knowledge of a new generation system became a serious issue. Due to importance of this fact STCW Manila amendment has new training and certification requirements for electro-technical officers. In this paper, Mechatronics applications on ship are introduced, importance of it highlighted and a new syllabus is proposed for the training of marine engineers to be nurtured with mechatronics knowledge as it is required.
As the Knowledge Economy grows bigger, studies and practices of knowledge management flourish in almost every organizations. Yet, the studies of fundamental relationships between knowledge and organization have not been sufficiently developed. It is partly because current knowledge management mainly focus on the technical aspects of the theme. This paper tries to find the possible organizing principles and theoretical foundations of knowledge-intensive organizations through the perspective of knowledge market and knowledge community. Based on the differentiation of "knowledge" and "knowing", the author draws several propositions about knowledge creation and knowledge use. Then, the author relates these propositions to the design and implementation of two theoretical models of organizations, i. e. knowledge market and knowledge community. Major claims are: 1) Knowledge use and knowledge creation process are conceptually separable, so that different conceptual models (market & community) need to be applied. 2) Since knowledge use and creation should be integrated, organizations in the Knowledge Economy should be the efficient knowledge market and, at the same time, knowledge community with care and cooperations. 3) The network of independent small KIFs(knowledge-intensive firms) could be considered as the possible organizational model of the future.
