  • In this study, we investigated how the scientific problem-finding ability of pre-service teachers is improved through open-situation scientific problem-making activity. We organized two experimental groups and a control group by degree of participation. The 1st experimental group is an actively participating class, while the 2nd experimental group is a passively participating class. We developed and applied a worksheet for training in problem-making. The pre-service teachers filled in the worksheet for problem-making once a week for seven weeks, then the lecturer gave feedback for every worksheet. We developed and applied a problem finding test in an open-situation to measure their problem finding ability at pre- and post-training. As a result of the training, problem level and diversity improved for pre-service teachers through continuous problem-making activities and feedback. The 1st experiment group significantly improved on the quality and quantity of problems. Especially in the originality, elaboration, verifiability, and variables' category, the 1st experimental group significantly improved compared to the control group and the 2nd experimental group. On the other hand, the quality and quantity of problems of the 2nd experimental group decreased. These results provide a basis for correlation between training attitude and improvement of problem-finding ability. Based on the result of this study, continuous problem-making training and feedbacks are helpful in improving the problem-finding ability of pre-service teachers.

  • The outbreak of Covid-19 has forced teachers of special education in Saudi Arabia to keep to themselves to live in a technology-infused society throughout the virtual teaching and learning process. This study set out to explore the competence, self-efficacy, and autonomy in using information communication technology (ICT) of special education teachers in Saudi Arabia. A total of 244 special education teachers in Saudi Arabia participated in this study. This study adopted the New General Self-Efficacy Scale developed and validated by Chen, Gully, and Eden (2001), as well as the Basic Psychological Needs in Exercise Scale (BPNES) developed and validated by Vlachopoulos and Michailidou (2006). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) were used as the main data analysis in this study. The findings showed that special education teachers in Saudi Arabia possessed competence, self-efficacy, and autonomy in using ICT in their teaching and learning process. All the factor loadings in each factor were.75 or higher, indicating good factor loadings. The results of the MANOVA indicated that special education teachers in Saudi Arabia do not report different perceptions of their competence, self-efficacy, and autonomy despite their different gender, age group, academic background, and teaching experiences.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate what variables have a significant effect on child care center teachers' mathematics teaching efficacy among teachers' individual variables, mathematics activity variables, and teachers' awareness variables, and also whether these results are different for teachers of 0 to 2-year-olds when compared to teachers of 3 to 5-year-olds. The subjects consisted of 438 teachers from child care centers located in D city and K province of Korea. The results of this study were as follows: First, mathematics activity variables had a significant effect on the mathematics teaching efficacy of both teacher groups. Second, teachers' awareness of the environment of mathematics education had a significant influence on the mathematics teaching efficacy of both teacher groups, and for teachers of 0 to 2-year-olds, that influence was the greatest among all of the variables. Third, teachers' awareness of the purpose of mathematics education had a significant effect on the mathematics teaching efficacy of only teachers of 0 to 2-year-olds. Lastly. teachers' awareness of the mathematics education curriculum had a significant influence on the mathematics teaching efficacy of only teachers of 3 to 5-year-olds, and that influence was the greatest. These results were discussed in terms of different types of support for each teacher group to improve the quality of mathematics education.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions and practices of secondary science teachers who participated in an Earth science teachers' research roup about teaching geologic field trips. Four Earth science teachers participated in this study. Data included field trip observations, semi-structured interviews with teachers and students, and analysis of instructional materials and students' reports from the field trip. Field trip observations and interviews were video- and audio-taped and transcribed. Results indicated that teacher participants focused more on aesthetic objectives for geologic field trip. The participants' instruction tended to show rather teacher-centered explanation due to limited time at each field site though various teaching strategies were used at times to engage students in a scientific inquiry. This group of teachers strived to develop their professional ability to guide geologic field trip by working with a small study group with colleagues, participating geologic field trips, and enrolling graduate programs.

  • The purpose of this study was to help teachers increase the level of student's school life satisfaction by comparing between the practical data of a group which have an accordant perception for class teacher's discipline style perceived by between teacher him/herself and student with another group which have a discordant perception for class teacher's discipline style perceived by between teacher him/herself and student. For this study, 1460 second grade special high school students in Pusan were selected. And 1273 students and 56 teachers' questionnaires were used for analysis, while 5 questionnaires went uncompleted. T-test and Multiple Regression Analysis were used for compiling statistics of collected data. The results of this study are as follows: First, perceptions about the teacher's discipline style perceived by between teacher him/herself and student were different. Second, the levels of student's school life satisfactions were different by two group. A group which has an accordant perception for class teacher's discipline style perceived by teacher him/herself and student shows the high level of school life satisfaction than B group which has an discordant perception. Last, class teacher's discipline style which affects the level of student's school life satisfaction was different by the two group. These results suggest that to increase the level of student's school life satisfaction, class teachers have to a mutual understanding first, and then approach their students with different discipline style by the level of their interactive relationship with their students.

The researchers selected boys and girls' general high school as the target population and gathered survey data. The number of participants was 606; these were students from first and second grades. Questionnaires on teachers' transformational leadership, students' learning motivation, and satisfaction in school life were measured. T-tests showed the following: As a result of the analysis of the difference of transformational leadership, the average of the teachers with careers spanning over 15 years was statistically significantly higher than those whose career spanned over less than 5 years. The group which perceived the transformational leadership of the homeroom teacher as high showed higher motivation scores than the group with lower perception. The means were statistically significant in all the sub-variables. In school - life satisfaction, the average of the former group which perceived the transformative leadership of the homeroom teacher as high was significantly higher than that of the other group.
