  • The Maori people were early New Zealand settlers of Polynesian descent. The incidence of non-infectious diseases appears to have been low in these people, perhaps in part due to the presence of protective chemical constituents within their food plant supply. Three of the tropical crops they introduced are still eaten here today:the sweet potato of kumara (Ipomoea batatas), the taro (Colocasia esculenta) and the cabbage tree or ti (Cordyline terminalis).(omitted)

Desmutagenic Effect of Legumes and Plants Crude Saponins in Salmonella typhimurium TA 98 (콩과 식물에서 추출한 사포닌의 돌연변이원성 억제효과)

  • Crude saponins of soybean and Azuki bean (2.0 mg/plate)were most effective against Trp-p-2, and also all of legume saponins (2.0 mg/plate)were excellent effective against aflatoxin $B_1$. Crude saponins of taro, burdock and ginseng were remarkably effective at ranging from 1.0 mg to 2.0 mg per plate against MeIQ. Especially ginseng saponin was excellent effective and arrow root saponins was remarkably effective against MeIQ, respectively. Plant saponins of taro, lotus burdock, arrow root and ginseng except for dodok were most effective activities against aflatoxin $B_1$.

  • 전기전자산업에 유기분자집합체에 대한 전자 device적 기능을 갖게 하는 초전막형성 기술의 하나로서 LB막이 이용되게 된다. 10여년전에 만들어 대기중에 방치되었던 Langmuir Blodgett(LB) 초전막 시료에 대해서 MIM구조소자에 전하가 발생하는 특성을 검토하였다.그 결과 LB막이 무극성일 때는 상하부전극을 동일 금속으로 하면 전압이 발생하지 않고, 서로 다른 금속전극으로 할 때는 전압이 발생하였는데 양전극금속의 일함수값의 차가 클수록 발생전압이 높았고 LB막이 유극성일때는 동일 전극이라도 전압이 발생하였다.따라서 LB초전막의 MIM 소자에서 발생하는 전하는 단순한 화학작용에 의한 것이 아니고양전극 금속의 일함수와 극성에 관계가 있다고 생각된다.

Food Preferences of Foreign Athletes in Korean Traditional Foods (한국 전통음식에 대한 외국운동선수들의 기호도 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate preferences of foreign athletes staying in the Athletic Village for '86 Asian Olympic Games for Korean traditional foods as served in the restaurant. A survey was conducted to 762 foreign athletes that selected Korean traditional foods in Athletic Village restaurants, from September 16 to 24, 1986. Most people preferred Korean traditional foods for its taste. Yachae Bokkum (Sauted Vegetable), Jonbok Juk (Rice Porridge of Abalone), Kimchi, Usol Chim (Tongue Stew), Dak Juk (Rice Porridge of Chicken) were preferred by most foreign athletes. Chongpo Muk (Mung Bean Starch Jelly), Toran Guk (Taro Soup) were not preferred. They proposed improvement of salty, hot and strong spicy taste in Korean traditional foods.

A Study on Filter Effect on Improvement of Chest Radiography (Filter effect를 이용(利用)한 Chest Radiography)

  • In the present study, we determined reduction value of radiation on chest film by film method and made a reduction curves. The reduction radio in exposure to radiation was induced by comparative investigation of characteristic curves and reduction one. Basing on these result, we could reduce a radiation dose on body surface in 50% at the time of chest radiography, if 17.8mm aluminium or 0.87mm copper filter were used in addition to conventional filter at 140KV tube voltage. The present study further revealed that the additional use of the aluminium or copper filter at the time of high voltage radiography in chest facilitates to identify an image of some pathologic focus overlapping wist clavicle and ribs.

Evaluation of the Effective Charge Density on Low Pressure Nanofiltration with the Separation Characteristics of Monovalent and Divalent Solutes in the Production of Drinking Water

  • The electric charge on a membrane was investigated by analyzing the experimental rejection of various monovalent and divalent ionic solutes. The characteristics of the separation of ionic solutes using various nanofiltration membranes were obtained from an experimental nanofiltration set-up, with a surface area of $40cm^2$ under the operational pressures between 0.25-0.3 MPa. The state of the membrane electric charge was observed using separation coefficients, i.e., the permeation ratio of monovalent to divalent ions. To confirm the state of the membrane charge observed via the separation coefficient, a calculation using the extended Nernst-Planck equation, coupled with the Donnan equilibrium, assuming different electric charge states of the membrane, was compared with the experimental rejection of ionic solutes. The examination of the characteristics of separation using three types of nanofiltration membranes showed that one of the membranes carried a negative/positive double charge density inside, while other two membranes carried either a positive or negative charge density.

  • In April 2010, Japan Cabinet Office has published the first countermeasure report for severe flood disasters. This report showed various flood-disaster scenarios and factors that widened damages. One of important suggestions was to transmit precious information for long-distance evacuation. So far, local municipalities have made Flood Hazard Map to inform resident risk and evacuation. In this paper, cognition and effectiveness of a flood hazard map in the down ARAKAWA river Tokyo were measured by social questionnaire survey. In conclusion, there were 3 factors to effect validity of a flood hazard map. There were (1) commitment to their neighborhood organization, (2) experience of Kathleen typhoon in 1947 and (3) level of using targeted river. As results, a logical diagram about a flood hazard map perception was drawn and discussed from a view of community-based approach.

  • This paper presents the structural analysis of the pressure vessels in the unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) under developing at KORDi, which consists of a ROV, an AUV and a launcher at 6000 m depth in the ocean. Analytical, linear and nonlinear stress and buckling analysis of cylindrical pressure vessels using FEM (ANSYS) are performed to verify the safety of the current design.

  • Spin dependent tunneling has enormously activated the field of magnetism in general, and in particular spin transport studies, in the past ten years. Thousands of articles related to the subject have appeared with many fundamental results. Importantly, there is great interest in their potential for application. There was another surge of activity in this field since the past five years - created by the theoretical prediction of a large tunnel magnetoresistance that arises due to band symmetry matched coherent tunneling in epitaxial magnetic tunnel junctions with (001) MgO barrier and experimentally well demonstrated. This further development in the field has boosted the excitement in both fundamental science as well as the possibility of application in such as magnetic random access memory, ultra sensitive read heads, biosensors and spin torque diodes. This review is a brief coverage of the field highlighting the literature that deals with magnetic tunnel junctions having epitaxial MgO tunnel barriers.

The FPGA Implementation of Wavelet Transform Chip using Daubechies′4 Tap Filter for DSP Application

  • The wavelet transform chip is implemented with Daubechies' 4 tap filter. It works at 20MHz in Field Programmable Gate array (FPGA) implementation of Quadrature Mirror Filter(QMF) Lattice Structure. In this paper, the structure contains taro-channel quadrature mirror filter, data format converter(DFC), delay control unit(DCU), and three 20$\times$8 bits real multiplier. The structures for the DFC and DCU need to he regular and scalable, require minimum number of regular, and thereby lead to an efficient and scalable architecture for the Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT). These results present the possibility that it can be used in Digital Signal Processing(DSP) application faster than Fourier transform at small area with lour cost.
