A Study on Surface Roughness in Wire Electrical Discharge Machining of STD11 based on Taguchi method (다구찌법에 의한 STD11의 와이어방전가공에서 표면거칠기에 관한 연구)

  • The experimental analysis presented aims at the selection of the most optimal machining parameter combination for wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) of STD11. Based on the Taguchi experimental design ($L_{27}$ orthogonal array) method, a series of experiments were performed by considering time-on, voltage, time-off, wire speed, and flow rate as input parameters. The surface roughness was considered responses. Based on the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, the influence of the input parameters on the responses was determined. The optimal machining parameters setting for the minimum surface roughness was found using Taguchi methodology. In order to investigate the effects of process parameters on the surface machined by WEDM, Several experiments are conducted to consider effects of time-on, voltage, time-off, wire speed and flow rate on the surface roughness. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) as well as regression analysis are performed on experimental data. The best results of surface roughness were obtained at higher voltage, lower wire speed, and lower time-on.

  • The Accumulation Analysis is a main method of Taguchi's data analysis strategy. However, Many statistician(specially Hamada, Wu and Nair etc.,) pointed that this method is too much complicated while not being useful. In this article, We demonstrate the method of this Accumulation Analysis by examples and introduce the argument points and the alternative solutions discussed among many statisticians.

  • Finding an optimal solution in MADN[(Multi-Attribute Decision-Making) problems is difficult, when the number of alternatives, or that of attributes is relatively large Most of the existing mathematical approaches arrive at a final solution on the basis of many unrealistic assumptions, without reflecting the decision-maker's preference structure exactly. In this paper we suggest a model that helps us find a group consensus without assessing these parameters in specific cardinal values. Therefore, This research provides a comprehensive Decision Making of the theory and methods applicable to the analysis of decisions that involve risk and multiple criteria attributes. after, The emphasis of the procedure will be on developments from the fields of decisions analysis and utility theory of Taguchi Method. This theoretical development will be illustrated through the discussion of several real-world application and a case study. When the multiple number of decision makers are involved in the decision making procedure, the problem of uncertainties invariably occurs, because of the different views between them. In this paper, New decision making model using Taguchi Method is applied to effectively model the multi-attribute-decision making(MADM) procedure in the uncertainties dominated two area(quantitative and qualitative factors), Quantitative factors evaluation is used Loss Function of Taguchi, qualitative factors evaluation is used 50 ratio by each specialist. thus it can be used for aiding of preferable alternative. as a result, We will be proved efficiency about New decision making model of applied Taguchi Method with Analytical presentation of all the expecting outcomes when a specific strategy or an alternative plan is selected under expecting future environment.

  • Taguchi parameter design is an approach to reducing performance variation of quality characteristic value in products and processes. Taguchi has used SN (Signal to Noise) ratio to achieve the appropriate set of operating conditions where variability around target is low in the Taguchi parameter design. This paper describes the prediction technique of vehicle performance using parameter analysis to reduce man hour and test development period as well as to achieve stable NVH performance. Design engineer could efficiently decide the design variable using parameter analysis database in early design stage. These improvements can reduce the time needed to develop better vehicles.

  • In this work, the mechanism of structure-borne noise resulting from vibration of a compressor for a refrigerator is experimentally analyzed and an effective method is proposed to reduce the noise. Firstly, the emission noise, when the compressor is turned on and off, is measured and analyzed to identify the generation mechanism of structure-borne noise. And the acceleration on the outer wall of the refrigerator is also analyzed to identify the distribution of vibration. Secondly, an effective design method to reduce the noise is suggested by using the finite element analysis and Taguchi method. Consequently an optimal design of the refrigerator, which has lower noise, is obtained and then its performance and validity are verified through the analysis and test.

Acoustic Analysis and Design of a Direct-Radiator-Type Loudspeaker (직접방사형 스피커의 음향특성 해석및 설계)

  • A systematic procedure for designing a direct-radiator-type loudspeaker has been developed, based on the numerical vibro-acoustic analysis and the Taguchi method. The finite-element model of the speaker cone has been used to calculated the vibration response of the cone excited by the voice coil. The vibration displacement of the speaker cone has been converted into the vibration velocity and used as a boundary condition for the acoustic analysis. The acoustic frequency characteristics of the loudspeaker have been calculated by the boundary element method. The numerical results have been verified by the experiments carried out in an anechoic chamber. Some design parameters have been selected by using the Taguchi method, and the variations of the acoustic characteristics due to the changes of the parameter values have been examined using the numerical model.

  • A systematic procedure for designing a direct-radiator-type loudspeaker has been developed, based on a numerical vibro-acoustic analysis and the Taguchi method.   • An automobile outside rear view mirror system has been analyzed and designed to reduce vibration with a finite element model. model analysis is conducted for the calculation of natural frequencies. harmonic analysis is utilized to estimate the displacements of the glass surface under dynamic loads. The model is verified with the vibration experiment of the parts and the assembled body. The structure of the mirror system is optimized for the robustness defined by the Taguchi concept. At first, many potential design variables are defined. Final design variables are selected based on the amount of contribution on the objective function. That is, sensitive variables are chose. The SN ratio in the Taguchi method is replaced by an objective function with the mean and the standard deviation of the quality characteristic. The defined objective function is appropriate in the structural design in that the vibration displacements are minimized while the robustness is improved.

  • Recent interest in Taguchi's methods have led to developments of joint modelling of the mean and dispersion in generalized linear models. Since a single data transformation cannot produce all the necessary conditions for an analysis, for the analysis of the Taguchi data, the use of the generalized linear models is preferred to a commonly used data transformation method. In this paper, we will illustrate this point and provide GLIM macros to implement the joint modelling of the mean and dispersion in generalized linear models.

Robust Design of a Driver-Side Airbag Using the Taguchi Method (다구찌법을 이용한 운전석 에어백의 강건설계)

  • In the proto design stage of a new car, the performances of an occupant protection system can be evaluated by CAE even though the real test should be carried out. The number of the real test is reduced by the exact predictions followed by the appropriate design recommendation. However, the existing researches using CAE in predicting the performances do not consider the uncertainties of parameters. That often leads to inconsistency between test and CAE. In this research, the robust design of a protection system such as airbag and load limiter is suggested considering the frontal crash. The parameter design scheme of the Taguchi method is introduced to obtain the robust design of arbitrary airbag and load limiter. It is performed based on the frontal crash test condition of US-NCAP with an arbitrary passenger car. The variances of the performances such as HIC, chest acceleration and probability of combined injury are calculated by the outer array and the Taylor series expansion. Through the analysis of the Taguchi method, the robust optimum is determined.
