  • Mobile computers can process large amounts of data at high speeds, and it is feasible and easy to implement a remote monitoring system utilizing mobile computers. Because of their portability and convenience, these computers have been employed in various research areas to develop such monitoring systems. Existing monitoring system is a bit difficult to real time monitoring the scattered offshore facilities. So this paper compensate the existing system by using mobile computers such as a tablet PC-based monitoring system. Also, the scattered offshore facilities can be monitored in real-time through the tablet PC. The developed monitoring system is a fully Internet-based monitoring platform that enables one to monitor and control remote oceanic applications at any time and any place where it is possible to access the Internet. It can be applied to many oceanic applications as well as the unmanned systems and remote monitoring systems on land.

  • In this paper efficient design of wireless tablet system using GalaxyNote device for PC was proposed. The designed portable tablet consists of GalaxyNote device, Stylus Pen, and Bluetooth-to-serial converter. To transmit coordinate information of Stylus Pen on GalaxyNote device to PC, wireless portable tablet uses bluetooth wireless communications. After the custom mouse filter driver divides received coordinate into x-coordinate and y-coordinate, it controls position of mouse pointer using the converted coordinates while Windows application programs are running.

  • Pen-based interaction is universally available on smart devices and especially on Tablet PCs. Previous studies compared various input methods like fingers, a mouse or a stylus pen on PCs or on a touchscreen based devices such as smart phones. At the same time, various soft keyboard applications are being developed on application stores of smart devices. However, these previous studies did not suggest which one is a suitable keyboard application for Tablet PCs when users perform a certain interaction as input type. In this study, we compared two types of input methods (finger and pen) and three types of soft keyboard applications (QWERTY, Gesture and Swype) in a Tablet PC using performance measurements (accuracy and input speed) and discussed what types of applications showed better performance with each interaction on tablet PC. From these results, recommendations for the keyboard types depending on the input methods on tablet PCs were developed.

  • There are a variety of alternative products in the computer markets. A tablet PC, which is a small type of computer, is expanding its market share as an independent type of computer products. The purpose of this study is to find out what the factors are that led to the success of the tablet PC. A research study was carried out on the intention to use of tablet PCs by consumers. The factors that affect the intention to use of tablet PCs users were structured on the basis of attitude theory. According to the one-dimensional theory of attitude, cognitive factors affect the affective factors, which in turn affect conative factors. In the study, the relations between each dimension were set up. The hypothesis was tested by structural equation modeling. The test results are as follows. First, the values and satisfaction that the owners of tablet PCs feel from the products and the positive comments on the products from their nearby acquaintances affect in a positive way how much they like their products. Second, the products surrounding the tablet PCs did not affect the intention to use of the products. Third, the product favorability that the owners of tablet PCs feel affects the intention to use in a meaningful way. The results of the research also show that hi-tech products such as tablet PCs affect their attitude after they buy and use the products. This attitude affects intention to use of the products. The managers of companies that produce hi-tech products should consider the cognitive and affective aspects of the product owners when manufacturing and marketing products.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide a comparison of reliability prediction models between MIL-HDBK-217F and Telcordia SR-332 and to analyze the reliability prediction results. Methods: The reliability of industrial tablet PC was predicted using MIL-HDBK-217F and Telcordia SR-332. To analyze the results, sensitivity analysis was conducted. Results: The reliability of MIL-HDBK-217F was predicted lower than the one of Telcordia SR-332. Considering the factors such as temperature, quality and environment, those provided reliability change of a particular part which highly contribute to the system failure. Conclusion: It is necessary to design the industrial tablet PC that consists of integrated circuits such as microprocessor and memory considering the operating temperature and quality factors.

  • Generally in case of tablet PC's, the Windows 8 is used to support various functions or development convenience, however it cannot support real-time processing. In addition, existing commercial solutions and RTiK has a problem to support real-time processing due to impossibility of getting APIC timer count value which is used to generate timer interrupt separated from that of Windows. Thus, in this paper, we set the initial APIC count value using MSR_FSB_FREQ to support real-time processing on the Windows 8-based tablet PC's. Additionally, we deal with designing and implementing RTiK+ providing real-time processing to guarantee interrupt periods by controlling C-State which is used for low power techniques. To evaluate the performance of the proposed RTiK+, we measured the periods of generated real-time threads using RDTSC instructions which return the number of CPU clock ticks, and verified that RTiK+ operates correctly within the error ranges of 1ms.

  • As the prevalence of mobile platforms, expanding digital content production and also increasing interest about the serious game. However, existing educational serious games are short of application of educational function and lower effectiveness that not linked with off-line education. In this paper, we developed an educational serious game 'Rice-Mimi Adventure' for children based Tablet PC. The Games are designed five steps by four elements that storytelling, playing, music and cooking. Specially, players interaction between characters should be increase their own concentration and interest. For the effectiveness verification that linked education of on/off-line, experiment to 126 students of 3,4th grade in Choenan. A result shows positive data that on/off-line linked education using Tablet PC and effectiveness of game contents applied design factors. For this work, we should find effective class and teaching method using digital contents in off-line education for children.

  • This paper describes research results that 2-D contents, which display in smart phone or tablet PC to be able to see the 3-D stereoscopic by use projection technique. For this research, we have construct four brown-glass into pyramid shape, project each of the four LCD monitors that output from the PC screen into of the four inverted pyramid-shaped mirror and display the 3-D image to the center of the mirror system. For the test, We use tablet PC and server PC(desktop PC) connected by wireless network, tablet PC select contents which is displayed in the server PC, and displayed selected contents into the 3-D image to the center of the mirror system. Through the test, we have showed that it is possible to display 3-D stereoscopic to the 2-D contents by use projection technique. Although, display image is depending on the observer's viewing angle.

  • The aim of this study was investigated the effect of cognitive training using tablet pc applications on cognitive function, daily living, and satisfaction in subacute stroke patients. This study participated in fourteen subacute stroke inpatients, in I general hospital, at located in Incheon. All subjects assigned that randomized each seven patients in experimental and control group. Two groups received to traditional cognitive therapy during half hour/day, 5 times per week, for 4 weeks. Experimental group performed additionally that cognitive training using tablet pc applications for 30 min/day. The outcome measures were the K-MMSE(: Korea-Mini Mental State Examination), MoCA-K(: Montreal Cognitive Assessments-Korea), MBI(: Modified Barthel Index), VAS(: Visual Analog Scale) for cognitive function, daily living, satisfaction. In results, Both group showed significant improvements after intervention in MoCA-K, MBI(p<.05). In comparison of change between two groups, experimental group showed significant improvements than control group in MoCA-K(p<.05). In comparison of satisfaction of two groups, both group was not significant difference(p>.05). we suggested that Cognitive training using tablet pc applications expected to positive effects the improvements of cognitive function in subacute stroke patients.
