  • White ledger usually includes white office paper, computer paper, and copy machine paper. Because these grades need high optical properties, fluorescent whitening agents (FWAs) are widely used in the papermaking process. FWAs are the most powerful and effective chemical used to obtain high CIE whiteness and ISO brightness in papers. The rising demand for white or ultra-white papers has increased the use of FWAs. However, FWAs used in white ledger can restrict its use, even though white ledger is widely used as a raw material in paperboard mills. Therefore, it is necessary to develop methods to control FWAs from white ledger to increase its use in paperboard mills. In this study, the behaviors of disulpho fluorescent whitening agent (D-FWA), tetrasulpo fluorescent whitening agent (T-FWA), and hexasulpho fluorescent whitening agent (H-FWA) during the recycling process were identified as a first step to remove FWAs from white ledger. We prepared four types of papers (dyed with D-FWA, T-FWA, and H-FWA), disintegrated these papers, and made handsheets. This recycling process was carried out three times in a laboratory. After each round of recycling, the hand-sheets' CIE whiteness and fluorescence index were measured, and the distribution of FWAs in the Z-direction was observed using CLSM images. FWA reductions in the model papers were calculated using fluorescence indices as a function of the number of recycling. FWAs in handsheets containing T-FWA and H-FWA decreased linearly as a function of the number of recycling, but D-FWA did not show a significant reduction in the fluorescence index after recycling. T-FWA and H-FWA showed similar distributions of D-FWA after recycling. Therefore, as much T-FWA and H-FWA as possible must be detached in the early processes of papermaking at paperboard mills.

Efficient simulation method for a gas inflow to the central molecular zone

  • We present hydrodynamic simulations of gas clouds that inflowing from the disk to a few hundred parsec region of the Milky Way. Realistic Galactic structures are included in our simulations by thousands of multipole expansions that describe 6.4 million stellar particles of a self-consistent Galaxy simulation (Baba, Saitoh & Wada, in prep.). We find that a hybrid multipole expansion model with two different basis sets and a thick disk correction well reproduces the overall structures of the Milky Way. We find that the nuclear ring evolves into 240 pc at T~1500 Myr, regardless of the initial size. For most of simulation runs, gas inflow rate to the nuclear region is equilibrated as ~0.02 Msun/yr, and thus accumulated gas mass and star formation activity is stabilized as $6{\times}10^7Msun$ and ~0.02M/yr, respectively. These stabilized values are in a good agreement with estimations for the CMZ. The nuclear ring is off-centered to the Galactic center by the lopsided central mass distribution of the Galaxy model, and thus an asymmetric mass distribution is arose accordingly. The lopsidedness also leads the nuclear ring to be tilted to the Galactic plane and to precess along the Galaxy rotation. In early evolutionary stage when gas clouds start to inflow and form the nuclear ring, the z-directional oscillations of the gas clouds results in the twisted, infinity-shaped nuclear ring. Since the infinity-shaped feature is transient only for first 100 Myr, the current infinity-shape observed in the CMZ may indicate that the CMZ forms quite recently.

  • Acupuncture therapy has demonstrated efficacy in several clinical areas, and of these areas the understanding of pain has progressed immensely in the last two decades. The underlying mechanisms of acupuncture in general and the analgesic effect in particular are still not clearly delineated. The leading hypothesis include the effects of local stimulation, neuronal gating, release of endogenous opiates, and the placebo effect. Accumulating evidence suggests that the central nervous system(CNS) is essential for the processing of these effects, via its modulation of the autonomic nervous system, neuro-immune system, and hormonal regulation. These processes tap into basic survival mechanisms. As such, understanding the effects of acupuncture within a neuroscience-based framework becomes vital. We propose a model which incorporates the stress-induced hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis(HPA-axis) model of Akil et al., the cholinergic anti-inflamatory observations of Tracey et al., and Petrovic et al.

  • 우주 항공위성 시스템은 변하는 불확실한 우주항공 환경에(서) 운행되고 지상기지국으로부터의 원격통신 없이 장시간 동안 동작해야 할 자율적인 능력이 요구되고, 결함 없이 임무를 수행하여야 하며, 시스템에서 계측된 데이터의 신뢰성을 유지하기 위한 고장 상태 검출과 오류 수정 시스템을 차보하는 것이 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 확장 칼만 필터 기법을 적용한 동적모델 시뮬레이션 기법(High Fidelity, Dynamic Model-based Simulation)을 제안하였으며, 제안된 시스템은 비정상적인 데이터의 효과적인 검출과 대응이 가능해짐으로써 신뢰성 있는 우주항공위성시스템을 구축하도록 자동 상태 진단/데이터 시스템에 고장검출/오류수정 시스템을 적용하는 것이다. A 3-D RBSM for simulating the failure process of RC structures

  • Rigid body spring method (RBSM) is an effective tool to simulate the cracking process of structures, and has been successfully applied to investigate the behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) members. However, the theoretical researches and engineering applications of this method mainly focus on two-dimensional problems as yet, which greatly limits its applications in actual engineering projects. In this study, a three-dimensional (3-D) RBSM for RC structures is proposed. In the proposed model, concrete, reinforcing steels, and their interfaces are represented as discrete entities. Concrete is partitioned into a collection of rigid blocks and a uniform distribution of normal and tangential springs is defined along their boundaries to reflect its material properties. Reinforcement is modeled as a series of bar elements which can be freely positioned in the structural domain and irrespective of the mesh geometry of concrete. The bond-slip characteristics between reinforcing steel and concrete are also considered by introducing special linkage elements. The applicability and effectiveness of the proposed method is firstly confirmed by an elastic T-shape beam, and then it is applied to analyze the failure processes of a Z-type component under direct shear loading and a RC beam under two-point loading.

Exploring Thermoelectric Transport Properties and Band Parameters of n-Type Bi2-xSbxTe3 Compounds Using the Single Parabolic Band Model

  • The n-type Bi2-xSbxTe3 compounds have been of great interest due to its potential to achieve a high thermoelectric performance, comparable to that of p-type Bi2-xSbxTe3. However, a comprehensive understanding on the thermoelectric properties remains lacking. Here, we investigate the thermoelectric transport properties and band characteristics of n-type Bi2-xSbxTe3 (x = 0.1 - 1.1) based on experimental and theoretical considerations. We find that the higher power factor at lower Sb content results from the optimized balance between the density of state effective mass and nondegenerate mobility. Additionally, a higher carrier concentration at lower x suppresses bipolar conduction, thereby reducing thermal conductivity at elevated temperatures. Consequently, the highest zT of ~ 0.5 is observed at 450 K for x = 0.1 and, according to the single parabolic band model, it could be further improved by ~70 % through carrier concentration tuning.

Biological aspects and population dynamics of Indian mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta) in Barru, Makassar Strait, Indonesia

  • The present study aims to analyze the biological aspects and population dynamics of Indian mackerel in Barru waters. Data was collected in Barru for 11 months, from June 2022 to April 2023. The observed parameters of biological aspects included gonadal maturation stages (GMSs), size at first gonadal maturation, and length-weight relationship. Meanwhile, the aspects of population dynamics encompass age group, growth, mortality rate, and exploitation rate. Data analysis consisted of morphological selection of general maturation stages, Spearman-Kärber method in estimating gonadal first maturation size, Bhattacharya method in identifying age group, von Bertalanffy function through FISAT II to measure growth (L and K), Pauly Model to estimate mortality rate, Beverton & Holt Model to estimate Y/R, and virtual population analysis (VPA) analysis to estimate stock and fish yield. The results demonstrated that GMS I was observed to be dominant, followed by stages II and III. The initial gonadal maturation was estimated to be 17.98-19.28 cm (FL) for females and 17.98-19.27 cm (FL) for males. The length-weight relationship in male and female Indian mackerels indicated a positive allometric growth. The mode grouping analysis results from the fork length measurement revealed three age groups. It was also identified that the asymptotic length (L) = 29.5 cm (fork length), growth rate coefficient (K) = 0.46 per year, and theoretical age at zero length (t0) = -0.3576 per year. Total mortality (Z) = 2.67 per year, natural mortality (M) = 1.10 per year, fishing mortality (F) = 1.57 per year, and exploitation rate (E) = 0.59, the actual Y/R = 0.083 gram/recruitment, and optimal Y/R 0.03 gram/recruitment. Fishing mortality is higher than the natural mortality rate, and a high exploitation value (E > 0.5) also reflects over-exploitation. VPA analysis on fish yields and stock estimation reported a highly exploited rate between the 11.5 cm and 14.5 cm length classes and an exceeding current yield of 467.07 tons/year with a recommended yield of 233.53 tons/year to ensure population sustainability.

  • 목적: $H_2^{15}O$ 양전자단층촬영으로 작업기억을 조사할 때 뇌기능을 국소화한 뇌기능지도를 만들기 위해 동원되는 통계적 가정과 추론의 여러 방법을 해석하고 뇌활성화와 관련된 뇌기능 국소화 방법에 영향을 미치는 요소를 조사하였다. 대상 및 방법: 정상인 6명에 대하여 각각 대조과제, 언어성 작업기억 활성화과제 2종류, 시각적 작업기억 활성화과제 1종류를 수행시키며 뇌혈류 $H_2^{15}O$ PET 촬영을 시행하였다. SPM96 소프트웨어를 이용하여 각 영상과 표준지도의 뇌피질 경계가 일치 되도록 부분 선형적으로 변형하였으며 선형화한 비선형적 변형 방법으로 사람에 따라 나타나는 뇌피질 및 내부 구조의 미세한 차이를 제거하였다. 공간정규회된 영상들을 16mm의 FWHM을 갖는 가우시안 커널로 중첩적분하여 편평화하였다. 각 화소의 방사능 계수는 뇌피질전체 뇌혈류, 활성화에 의한 특정 효과, 여러 교란변수의 영향과 오차의 선형 결합으로 이루어진다는 일반선형모델을 가정하고 공분산분석 방법으로 전체 뇌혈류 차이를 제거하였다. 각 화소의 방사능 계수가 자극과 뇌활성화 작업에 상관없을 경우 평탄한 무작위 가우스장의 행동을 따른다고 가정하고 특정화소의 계수차이가 이 무작위장의 정상적인 교란 이상인지 검정하였다. 화소별 t 값을 Z 값으로 바꾸어 표현하고 가설검정 결과에 따라 화소, 덩어리, 화소 또는 덩어리의 차이가 얼마나 유의한지 제시하였다. 결합분석을 하여 여러 과제를 수행할 때 동시에 화소의 계수가 증가하는 곳을 찾았다. 각 화소의 Z 값을 3차원으로 렌더링한 표준지도와 투명유리뇌에 투사하여 활성화된 부위를 알아볼 수 있게 하였다. 결과: 피검자 모두 성공적으로 검사를 마쳤으며 대조 과제와 기억 과제를 수행하는 동안 피험자는 평균 95%를 맞췄다. 활성화된 덩어리의 개수는 언어성 기억과제 I에서 4개, 언어성 기억과제 II에서 9개, 시각적 기억과제에서 9개, 결합분석에서 6개였다. 언어성 기억과제에서는 주로 왼쪽 뇌가, 시각적 기억과제에서는 오른쪽 뇌가 활성화되었다. 결론: $H_2^{15}O$ 양전자 단층촬영술과 통계적 파라메터 지도작성법이 언어성 및 시각적 작업기억과 관련되어 활성화된 지 영역을 찾는데 유용하였다.

3-Dimensional Performance Optimization Model of Snatch Weightlifting

  • Object : The goals of this research were to make Performance Enhanced Model(PE) taken the largest performance index (PI) through artificial variation of principle components calculated by principle component analysis for trial data, and to verify the effect through comparing kinematic factors between trial data (Raw) and PE. Method : Ten subjects (5 men, 5 women) were recruited and 80% of their maximal record was considered. The PI is a regression equation. In order to develop PE, we extracted Principle components from trial position data (by Principle Components Analysis (PCA)). Before PCA, we made 17 position data to 3 row matrix according to components. We calculated 3 eigen value (principle components) through PCA. And except Y (medial-lateral direction) component (because motion of Y component is small), principle components of X (anterior-posterior direction) and Z (vertical direction) components were changed as following. Changed principle components = principle components + principle components ${\times}$ k. After changing the each principle component, we reconstructed position data using the changed principle components and calculated performance index (PI). A Paired t-test was used to compare Raw data and Performance Enhanced Model data. The level of statistical significance was set at $p{\leq}0.05$. Result : The PI was significantly increased about 12.9kg at PE ($101.92{\pm}6.25$) when compared to the Raw data ($91.29{\pm}7.10$). It means that performance can be increased by optimizing 3D positions. The difference of kinematic factors as follows : the movement distance of the bar from start to lock out was significantly larger (about 1cm) for PE, the width of anterior-posterior bar position in full phase was significantly wider (about 1.3cm) for PE and the horizontal displacement toward the weightlifter after beginning of descent from maximal height was significantly greater (about 0.4cm) for PE. Additionally, the minimum knee angle in the 2-pull phase was significantly smaller (approximately 2.7cm) for the PE compared to that of the Raw. PE was decided at proximal position from the Raw (origin point (0,0)) of PC variation). Conclusion : PI was decided at proximal position from the Raw (origin point (0,0)) of PC variation). This means that Performance Enhanced Model was decided by similar motion to the Raw without a great change. Therefore, weightlifters could be accept Performance Enhanced Model easily, comfortably and without large stress. The Performance Enhance Model can provide training direction for athletes to improve their weightlifting records.

MaxEnt 모형을 활용한 백두대간에 자생하는 주요 밀원수종인 음나무, 피나무, 쪽동백나무의 서식지 적합성 평가 (Evaluation of Habitat Suitability of Honey Tree Species, Kalopanax septemlobus Koidz., Tilia amurensis Rupr. and Styrax obassis Siebold & Z ucc. in the Baekdudaegan Mountains using MaxEnt Model)

  • 본 연구는 백두대간에 자생하는 주요 밀원수종 3종(음나무, 피나무, 쪽동백나무)을 대상으로 서식지 적합성 분석을 수행하였다. 백두대간 내 밀원수종 서식지 적합도 분석을 MaxEnt를 이용하여 수행한 결과, 모형의 예측정확도 AUC값은 음나무 0.747, 피나무 0.790, 쪽동백나무 0.755로 나타났다. 밀원수종의 서식지 적합도에 가장 영향을 많이 미치는 변수로 음나무와 피나무는 고도, 연평균 기온, 경사도 순으로 나타났으며, 쪽동백나무는 연평균 기온, 고도, 연평균 강수량 순으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 분석된 대상수종 모두 지형인자인 고도와 기후인자인 연평균 기온이 가장 중요한 인자로 나타났으며, 이는 고도와 기온이 대상 수종의 분포 패턴을 설명하는데 매우 핵심적인 인자임을 나타낸다. 본 연구는 임업소득 향상을 위한 고부가가치 아이템인 산림양봉의 필수자원인 주요 밀원수종들의 서식지 적합성 분석을 통해, 백두대간 내 주요 밀원수종의 관리와 밀원림을 조성할 수 있는 잠재력이 높은 중요 적합지들에 대한 자료를 제공한다. 향후 밀원수종 분포에 영향을 미치는 토양, 건조도 등의 무생물적 인자와 종간경쟁 등의 생물적 인자를 종합적으로 고려하여 모형의 정확도를 높이는 연구가 추가로 진행되어야 할 필요가 있다.
