  • A numerical investigation is made of time-dependent buoyant convection in a square of a non-Boussinesq fluid. The density-temperature$({\rho}-T)$ relation is modeled by a quadratic function, with the maximum density ${\rho}_M$ at temperature $T_M$. The horizontal walls of the square are insulated, and a pulsating temperature $T_H=T_M+{\Delta}T'\;sin({\omega}{\tau})$ is imposed on the hot vertical sidewall. The temperature at the cold wall $T_c$ is constant. Extensive numerical solutions to the governing Navier-Stokes equations are portrayed. Resonance is identified by monitoring the amplitude of the mid-plane Nusselt number, $A(Nu^*)$. The primary resonance frequency is found by matching ${\omega}$ to the nondimensional basic mode $N_1$ of internal gravity oscillations. Due to the quadratic$({\rho}-T)$ relationship, the effective pulsation frequency for density, $2{\omega}$, is meaningful, which brings forth the secondary resonance frequency, i.e., $2{\omega}=N_1$

  • This paper presents general solutions for stochastic square duels with continuous interfiring times and various firing strategies such as standby (S), concentrated (C), seperated (I) and random (R) firings. Analysis of these square duels with negative exponential interfiring times and equivalent values of rates of fire and single shot kill probabilities reveal three important facts: i) Strategy (C) is advantageous against the opponent's strategy (S) and the advantage becomes more pronounced for lower values of single shot kill probabilities. ii) Strategy (I) is always better than strategy (C) no matter which of (C) and (I) the opponent uses and its relative advantege increases to a quarter as single shot kill probabilities increase to one but decreases to zero as they go to zero. iii) However, strategy (I) has no advantage over strategy (C) for small values of single shot kill probabilities. In this paper, square duels with strategies (C) and (I) are based on the assumptions that duelists are homogeneous and both duelists of one side fire simultaneously. The problem of relaxing these assumptions and extension of square ($2 \times 2$) duels to more general ($m \times n) duels are now being investigated.

  • Pressure drops and friction factors in square channels with twisted tape inserts plus axial interrupted ribs are investigated. Tests are performed for Reynolds numbers ranging from 8,900 to 29,000. The rib height-to-channel hydraulic diameter, $e/D_h$, is kept at 0.057 and test section length-to-hydraulic diameter, $L/D_h$ is 30. The pressure drops and friction factor values are enhanced with axial interrupted ribs and twisted tape inserts. Square channels with twisted tape inserts plus axial interrupted ribs show the greatest pressure loss penalty in the present work. Friction factor data obtained for the square channel with twisted tape inserts plus axial interrupted ribs are less than those in the past publications for circular tubes with axial interrupted ribs and twisted tape inserts.

  • This study investigated aerodynamic characteristics of an inclined square prism experimentally. Pressure measurements were performed on a static square prism with a series of inclinations including forward inclinations (inclined to the upwind direction) and backward inclinations (inclined to the downwind direction). The prism with a vertical attitude was also tested for comparisons. Based on the pressure data, influences of the inclinations on aerodynamic characteristics (e.g., force coefficients, pressure distributions on the surfaces, and vortex shedding features) of the square prism were evaluated in detail. The results show that the inclinations have significant effects on these aerodynamic characteristics. Furthermore, the influences of the forward and backward inclinations are quite different.

  • Welded built-up square tubes are manufactured by flare welding at the center of the column width for cold-formed L-shaped four-piece plates and improved composite effect of concrete and steel by vertical inner anchor. Also, the axial resistance of concrete is increased by the thinness of the steel column, and the composite effect of concrete and steel prevents the steel column from local buckling. In this study, we introduced a manufacturing method of built-up square column steel square concrete-filled tubular column with vertical inner anchor and superior structural performance of the square stub column verified by the structural test for 15 specimens with parameters of shape of tube (built-up square tube, general steel tube), width over thickness of the steel tube (B/t=50, 58, 67) and the strength of concrete (f'c=10MPa, 50MPa).

  • The characteristics of tunnel diode pair circuit biased within the negative resistance region has also the voltage-control type negative resistance region, and the voltage at the center point of negative resistance region is described as the square-wave relaxation oscillation. In this paper, the period T, positive duration T1, negative duration T2 of the pulse are obatined from the characteristic curve T, positive duration T1, negative duration T2 of the pulse are obtained from the characteristic curve and observed actually, considring the fact that the pulse width and the period of square-wave at the center point of the negative resistance region is able to be controlle dby the blas volgate. Mereover, the relationship between T, T1 or T2 and circuit parameters is searched for and the Circuit parameters that satisfy the conditions of T1-T2 being proportional to the variation of bias voltage with Teonstant are determined. Thereafter, the bias voltage and the signal voltage are inserted serially to the PWM circuit and the characteristics of that circuit is analyzed.

  • Let (RDTF, M) be a Milnor square. In this paper, it is proved that R is a ${\mathcal{C}}$-hereditary domain if and only if both D and T are ${\mathcal{C}}$-hereditary domains; R is an almost perfect domain if and only if D is a field and T is an almost perfect domain; R is a Matlis domain if and only if T is a Matlis domain. Furthermore, to give a negative answer to Lee, s question, we construct a counter example which is a C-hereditary domain R with $w.gl.dim(R)={\infty}$.

  • The paper explores the potential of Support Vector Machines (SVM) approach in predicting 28-day compressive strength and slump flow of self-compacting concrete. Total of 80 data collected from the exiting literature were used in present work. To compare the performance of the technique, prediction was also done using a back propagation neural network model. For this data-set, RBF kernel worked well in comparison to polynomial kernel based support vector machines and provide a root mean square error of 4.688 (MPa) (correlation coefficient=0.942) for 28-day compressive strength prediction and a root mean square error of 7.825 cm (correlation coefficient=0.931) for slump flow. Results obtained for RMSE and correlation coefficient suggested a comparable performance by Support Vector Machine approach to neural network approach for both 28-day compressive strength and slump flow prediction.

  • The weld line location and the weld line movement in stamping with laser-tailor welded blanks(TWB) were investigated through square cup deep drawing tests. The step blank holder was introduced to form TWB of different thicknesses without wrinkling, and the non-uniform blank holding force(BHF) was enforced to control weld line movement. Test results of the blanks with shifted weld lines showed that the large portion of the thinner area could result in a large weld line movement. Careful selection of the weld line location and the BHF control should be adapted in TWB design to avoid failures and to ensure its formability.

  • Quadrupole coupling constants of $^{63}$CU in the high $T_c$ superconductor $YBa_2Cu_3O_7_{-x}$, as determined by NQR or NMR studies, are compared with the values for representative Cu(Ⅱ) complexes determined by analyzing the forbidden lines in their EPR spectra. It is shown that the two NQR lines at 22 and 31 MHz correpsond to the quadrupole coupling constants of a square planar Cu(Ⅱ) complex and a square pyramidal Cu(Ⅱ) complex, respectively.t This result is in agreement with the assignment of these lines to Cu(1) and Cu(2) sites in YBCO based on the NMR spectra of oriented single crystals.
