A numerical study on a quantitative analogy of the fully developed flow between in a straight square duct rotating about an axis perpendicular to that of the duct and a stationary curved duct of square cross-section is carried out. In order to clarify the similarity of two turbulent flows, the dimensionless parameters $K_{TR} = Re^{1/4}/\sqrt{Ro}$ and the Rossby number, Ro, in a rotating straight duct flow were used as a set corresponding to $K_{TC} = Re^{1/4}/\sqrt{{\lambda}}$ and curvature ratio, ${\lambda}$, in a stationary curved duct flow so that they have the same dynamical meaning as $K_{LR} = Re/\sqrt{Ro}$ and $K_{LC} = Re/\sqrt{{\lambda}}$ of the fully developed laminar flows. For the large values of Ro or A, it is shown that the flow field satisfies the asymptotic invariance property: there are strong quantitative similarities between the two flows such as flow patterns and friction factors for the same values of $K_L$ and $K_T$.
CFST columns are structurally superior because the concrete inside the steel tubes prevents local buckling at the tubes and the tubes confine the concrete. And, the thickness of steel tube in CFST column has been thinner with development of high-strengh steel. The thinner the steel tube of a square CFST column is, the more local buckling is likely to occur. For this reason, we developed welded built-up square steel tube with stiffeners which are placed at the center of the tube width acts as an anchor. In this study, we conduct experimental test for three specimens of the 4m long span welded built-up square CFT column with parameters of L/D and D/t. And, the test results were compared with the analysis results by M-${\phi}$-P Program.
Purpose: This study was designed to evaluate the clinical utility of the Four square step test (FSST) for predicting falls in stroke patients, to compare the ability of the FSST test to discriminate between subgroups of fallers, and to determine if the test has any predictive value in identifying stroke patients who will fall. Methods: Stroke patients (N=37) who could walk at least 50 m with minimal assistance were recruited consecutively when attending a physical therapy session during their rehabilitation. Dynamic standing balance was measured using the FSST. The main outcome measures were FSST time and fall number. Numbers of falls were compared with FSST scores. Differences between the groups in FSST scores were examined using a t-test and 1-way analysis of variance. Post hoc analysis using the Tukey B procedure was used to identify specific group differences. Alpha was set at 0.05. Results: A total of 15 participants (40.5%) reported falls 6 had recurrent falls (2 falls) and 9 fell once. The mean FSST time differed significantly between groups with zero and multiple falls. A cutoff score of greater than 17 seconds on the FSST was associated with a sensitivity of 83% and a specificity of 84% for the identification of subjects with multiple risk factors for falls. Conclusion: The FSST is a feasible and valid clinical test of dynamic standing balance and can predict falls in post-stroke patients.
This study investigated tile local austenite grain size (AGS) distribution In rolling of SCM435 steel which is commonly used for high strength bolt. To investigate AGS distribution, round-oval (R-O) and square-diamond (S-D) rolling experiments were carried out with pilot mill. In round-oval rolling, local AGS has a tendency to increase when it goes to outward. In square-diamond rolling, local AGS has a tendency to increase when it goes to free surface. To investigate relation between AGS and process parameter, three dimensional FE analysis was carried out along with rolling experiment. To validate accuracy of FE analysis, we compared deformed geometry with FE result. The AGS prediction combined AGS model with numerical analysis was also carried out for center node of S-D rolling. Although this study brought experimental observation and its qualitative analysis into focus and quantitative AGS prediction will be done as a further work.
Repeated ribs are used on heat exchange surfaces to promote turbulence and enhance convective heat transfer. Applications include fuel rods of gas-cooled nuclear reactors, inside cavities of turbine blades, and internal surfaces pipes used in heat exchangers. Despite the great number of literature papers, only few experimental data concern detailed distributions of friction factors and heat transfer coefficients in square channels varying the number of rough walls. This issue is tackled by investigating effects of different number of ribbed walls on heat transfer and friction characteristics in square channel. The rough wall have a 45$^{\circ}$ inclined square rib. Uniform heat flux is maintained on whole inner heat transfer channel area. The heat transfer coefficient and friction factor values increase with increasing the number of rough walls.
In the present study, the entrance length, velocity profiles and waveforms of developing transitional steady flows in a square duct are investigated analytically and experimentally. The systems of conservation equations for transitional steady duct flows are solved analytically by linearizing non-linear convective terms and adoption of modified eddy viscosity from empirical correlations. Analytical solutions of velocity profiles for developing transitional steady flow were obtained in the form of infinite series. The experimental study for transitional steady flow in a square duct with $40mm{\times}40mm{\times}4000mm$($width{\times}height{\times}length$) was carried out to measure velocity profiles and other parameters by using a hot-wire anemometer with data acquisition and processing system. The entrance length of developing transitional steady flows in a square duct was $L_e{\fallingdotseq}0.02{\cdot}Re,st{\cdot}D_h$, and the overshoot was occured at about 30 times of hydraulic diameter because of the effect of external velocity of boundary layer and instantaneous acceleration.
This paper aims to investigate the axial load behavior and stability strength of square tubed steel-reinforced concrete (TSRC) columns. Unlike concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) column, the outer steel tube of a TSRC column is mainly used to provide confinement to the core concrete. Ten specimens were tested under axial compression, and the main test variables included length-to-width ratio (L/B) of the specimens, width-to-thickness ratio (B/t) of the steel tubes, and with or without stud shear connectors on the steel sections. The failure mode, ultimate strength and load-tube stress response of each specimen were summarized and analyzed. The test results indicated that the axial load carried by square tube due to friction and bond of the interface increased with the increase of L/B ratio, while the confinement effect of tube was just the opposite. Parametric studies were performed through ABAQUS based on the test results, and the feasibility of current design codes has also been examined. Finally, a method for calculating the ultimate strength of this composite column was proposed, in which the slenderness effect on the tube confinement was considered.
This paper presents experimental and numerical investigations of aluminum tubular members subjected to combined bending and web crippling. A series of tests was performed on square hollow sections (SHS) fabricated by extrusion using 6061-T6 heat-treated aluminum alloy. Different specimen lengths were tested to obtain the interaction relationship between moment and concentrated load. The non-linear finite element models were developed and verified against the experimental results obtained in this study and test data from existing literature for aluminum tubular sections subjected to pure bending, pure web crippling, and combined bending and web crippling. Geometric and material non-linearities were included in the finite element models. The finite element models closely predicted the strengths and failure modes of the tested specimens. Hence, the models were used for an extensive parametric study of cross-section geometries, and the web slenderness values ranged from 6.0 to 86.2. The combined bending and web crippling test results and strengths predicted from the finite element analysis were compared with the design strengths obtained using the current American Specification, Australian/New Zealand Standard and European Code for aluminum structures. The findings suggest that the current specifications are either quite conservative or unconservative for aluminum square hollow sections subjected to combined bending and web crippling. Hence, a bending and web crippling interaction equation for aluminum square hollow section specimens is proposed in this paper.
본 논문에서는 SFH/M-NCFSK(slow frequency hopping/M-ary non-coherent frequency shift keying) 시스템을 대상으로 FH주파수 합성기에 위상 잡음이 통신 성능에 미치는 영향에 대해 주파수 편차라는 개념으로 새로이 연구하였다.
