Quantized System Modeling and Performance Evaluation

  • This paper reviews existing message-filtering schemes and presents a quantization-based message-filtering approach which reduces state update transmission and message traffic requirement. For a realization of the approach we develop a DEVS-based integrator which provides behavior and characteristic of the quantization-based approach. We take a spaceship and space traveling system as a case study to evaluate performance of the quantization-based approach. The approach is validated by DEVSJAVA simulations of the case study. The comparison of message traffic requirement between DTSS (Discrete Time System Specification)-based and DEVS-based systems apparently shows system performance improvement through the quantization-based approach.

A Experimental Study on the Application of GRNN for On-Off Control in Floor Radiant Heating System (바닥복사 난방시스템의 개폐식 제어에 대한 GRNN 적용에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, the control characteristics and effects of control methods on heating performance and energy consumption for the hot water floor radiant heating control system of a residential apartment were research by experiment. As a control method, On-Off control and outdoor reset control methods with GRNN(General Regression Neural Network) and without GRNN are considered. Also, the control performances with regard to improvement of indoor thermal environment and reduction of energy consumption are compared, respectively. Experiment results show that the performance of the control method with GRNN is better than that of conventional on-off control method without GRNN in the responses of room set temperature and energy saving.

CONTROL STRATEGY OF ELECTRIC COOLANT PUMPS FOR FUEL ECONOMY IMPROVEMENT

  • The engine cooling system for a medium duty V6, 4.5 L diesel engine was modeled with a commercial code, GT-Cool in order to investigate the effect of controllable electric pump on the cooling performance and the fuel economy. The simulation results of the cooling system model with mechanical coolant pump were validated with experimental data. Two different types of electric pumps were implemented into the cooling system model and PID control for electric pump operation was incorporated into the simulation study. Based on the simulation result with electric pump, conventional thermostat hysteresis was modified to reduce pump operation for additional improvement of fuel economy, and then the benefit of electric pumps with modified thermostat hysteresis on fuel economy was demonstrated with the simulation. The predicted result indicates that the cooling system with electric pump and modified thermostat hysteresis can reduce pump power consumption by more than $99\%$ during the FTP 74 driving cycle.

  • By means of analyzing the problems in monitoring plan, design, installation, operation based on maintenance monitoring system installed in subway tunnel section, the methods of improvement were proposed for applying to subway monitoring maintenance effectively in future. The choice of the better monitoring system, the operating method of monitoring system, the confidence and continuity of maintenance monitoring, the performance of responsible monitoring supervision in the phase of the planning of monitoring and design were proposed. The problem and developed plan in the different monitoring systems, the calibration and correction of monitoring system, the analysis for the results and plan for maintenance in the phase of installation of monitoring system and operation were also proposed.

  • With the increase in the demand for sustainable and environment-friendly development all over the world, it becomes an urgent issue for Korea to reduce $CO_2$ emission. Since building industry accounts for about 40% of international energy and resource consumption and $30{\sim}40%$ of $CO_2$ emission, it is essential to prepare for energy-efficient building. This study aims to seek for improvement direction for a domestic Building Energy Efficiency Rating System through the comparison with foreign systems. Two foreign building energy rating systems which have the similar application scope with domestic one, HERS(Home Energy Rating System) and SAP(Standard Assessment Procedure)2005 were selected. As compared with foreign systems, we intended to suggest improvement direction for effective application of Building Energy Efficiency Rating System in Korea.

A Study on the Improvement for RAM for Weapon Systems (무기체계 신뢰도 향상방안 연구)

  • The performance of weapon system, based on the acceleration of advanced scientific technology, has been reinforced to the state of precision, complexion and multi-function. People have given great interest for a long time on its development, acquisition cost and enormous expense of operation/support. Under this environmental situation, this research paper proposes two kinds of implementation that can improve the RAM(Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) on weapon system. The first section is to understand all of the actual states on its reliability, in the acquisition process and to make the improvement for RAM at the milestones on the acquisition steps. The next section is to establish a defense RAM center, which will be closely cooperated with acquisition organization such as Ministry of Defense, DAPA(Defense Acquisition Program Administration), DTaQ(Defense agency for Technology and Quality) and ADD(Agency for Defense Development), etc. and to conclusively improve the RAM of weapon system in South Korea.

Implementation for Automatic Inspection System on Ventilating Electronic Device Based on Reliability Improvement (신뢰성 향상 기반의 송풍전자장치 자동검사 시스템 구현)

  • This paper describes a system implementation for the automatic inspection on the ventilating electronic device based on the reliability improvement. To be enhancement, the inspection error is minimized by the automatic inspection system on the ventilating apparatuses against the manual inspecting system. The system consists of the control system, software structure and monitoring system to be scanning the inspection processing. The inspection system for reliability improvement is evaluated in Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility. The experimental results are improved about 2 times inspecting speed, measured error ${\pm}0.02V$, effectiveness of discriminating performance 15%, missing probability 17% and false alarm probability 12% respectively in comparing with the manual inspection based on the wind pressure sensor. The system will be also improved more by making database and product bar codes for the total quality control system to the effective reliability enhancement in the future.

Performance Improvement of DS-CDMA System by Multi-User Interference Cancellation Techniques (다중접속간섭 제거기법에 의한 DS-CDMA 시스템의 성능 개선)

  • An adaptive array antennal and a CCI canceller have been considered as techniques for cancelling Multi-User Interference(MUI) in Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access(DS-CDMA) system. These techniques have different problems respectively in the process of cancelling MUI as the number of users increases. For that reason, the scheme which can cancel MUI effectively by compensating for the problems of each of the techniques has been required. For the scheme, the technique to connect an adaptive array antenna and a CoChannel Interference(CCI) canceller in cascade form has been studied. In the existing study about the cascade connection method, the effect of cancelling MUI about two interference signals is analyzed, but the analysis for the quantitative BER(Bit Error Rate) improvement according to the number of users is not considered. Therefore, in this paper, we have analyzed the degree of BER performance improvement quantitatively according to the number of users by introducing the receiving system, which connects an adaptive array antenna and a CCI canceller to a DS-CDMA system in cascade form. For the method of analyzing the performance, we have performed the theoretical analysis and the simulation, considering the case of adopting only an adaptive array antenna and of cascade connection respectively, and having compared and analyzed the results. From the results, it is confirmed that in the case of adopting only an adaptive array antenna, the problems occur in the process of cancelling MUI according to the number of users and the receiving direction of interference signals, and can be compensated by the cascade connection method. In conclusion, we have known that MUI is cancelled effectively by using the cascade connection method, and the much better BER performance improvement is obtained.

  • In this paper, MRC(Maximum Ratio Combine) diversity, (23, 12) Golay code, (7, 5) Reed-Solomon code, and (3, 1) majority selection code are employed to improve the performance of DS/CDMA BRSK in Nakagami fading channel. and MRC diversity combined with other coding techniques is suggested, with which, the performance of DS/CDMA BRSK is compared and analyzed. Also, system required Eb/N0 to meet BER=10-5 for multi user data communication is obtained according to each techniques. From the results, when each techniques is employed to DS/CDMA BRSK system. coding employed system shows better performance than diversity employed system. Especially, Golay code shows better performance than oter codes. also MRC diversity is employed, the number of multiple access user to meet data communication requirement of BER=10-5 can accomodate up to 8 users. and when each code is employed, Golay code, majority selection code, and Reed-Solomon code shows the capacity of 14, 12, and 10 user respectively. But MRC diversity combined with coding techniques can reduce restriction of multiple access user. However, it is desirable these combined technique are employed according to service types and requirements provided.
