  • This paper presents an aspect-oriented approach to simulation design and analysis in system design phase for integrated logistics system simulation. The integrated logistics system composed of AS/RS (Automated Storages and Retrieval System), AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicle System), STVs (Sorting Transfer Vehicle System) and Conveyor System is designed by using the aspect-oriented approach and UML (Unified Modeling Language). The multi-factorial design of experiments and regression analysis are used for design parameters of the system and Evolution Strategies is used to verify each parameter. Aspect-oriented approach for the integrated logistics system simulation shows the advantages of code reusability, extendible, modulation, easy improvement and a better design technique.

  • The main objective of this paper is come up with methodology approach for FPGA-based system in verification and validation lifecycle regarding software reliability using system engineering approach. The steps of both reverse engineering and re-engineering are carried out to implement an FPGA-based of safety critical system in Nuclear Power Plant. The reverse engineering methodology is applied to elicit the requirements of the system as well as gain understanding of the current life cycle and V&V activities of FPGA based-system. The re-engineering method is carried out to get a new methodology approach of software reliability, particularly Software Reliability Growth Model. For measure the software reliability of a given FPGA-based system, the following steps are executed as; requirements definition and measurement, evaluation of candidate reliability model, and the validation of the selected system. As conclusion, a new methodology approach for software reliability measurement using software reliability growth model is developed.

  • Today's businesses are experiencing intensive global competition and the most accelerating pace of change ever. Competitors have sprung up that were not even on the business's radar. This environment impacts all decisions and strategies as business try to dominate their market or their marker or their industry merely to survive. So recently most of organizations are considering on building the data warehouse system to pursuit the business intelligence. We need the proper model to guide the approach to plan building data warehouse system when we want to plan it in considering the organizational status. Therefore we suggest a model to decide the approach to build data warehouse considering the project's environmental factors. First we review Ronald S. Swift(1998)'s five environmental factors that we have to consider when planing to build data warehouse. Then we propose a model to decide DW approach by the degree of those factors to be measured. DW approaches in this model are classified in conservative approach, increasing approach, enterprise wide approach, and ideal approach.

  • In this paper, a new protocol-based approach was proposed for development of a ubiquitous vision system. It is possible to apply the approach by regarding the ubiquitous vision system as a multiagent system. Thus, each vision sensor can be regarded as an agent (vision agent). Each vision agent independently performs exact segmentation for a target by color and motion information, visual tracking for multiple targets in real-time, and location estimation by a simple perspective transform. Matching problem for the identity of a target during handover between vision agents is solved by the Identified Contract Net (ICN) protocol implemented for the protocol-based approach. The protocol-based approach by the ICN protocol is independent of the number of vision agents and moreover the approach doesn't need calibration and overlapped region between vision agents. Therefore, the ICN protocol raises speed, scalability, and modularity of the system. The protocol-based approach was successfully applied for our ubiquitous vision system and operated well through several experiments.

Visualized Assurance Approach for Enterprise Architecture

  • In software engineering, to ensure reliability between systems, describing both system architecture and assurance arguments between system elements is considered necessary. There are proposals for system architecture assurance, but use of these traditional methods often requires development of different diagrams using different editors. Because the visual sense of the traditional methods is inadequate, errors readily occur when manipulating different diagrams. Therefore, it is essential that the assurance of dependability between components and systems is visualized and easy to understand. In this paper, an integrated approach to describe the relationship between system actors and system architecture is proposed, and this approach is clarified using an enterprise architecture modeling language. A case study is carried out and comparison to the traditional approach $d^*$ framework is explained. The comparison results show that the proposed approach is more suitable for ensuring dependability in system architecture.

  • Due to the rapid increase in air traffic worldwide, ICAO has replaced the existing navigation equipment with equipment based on satellite navigation. As a part of that work, ICAO was planning to replace conventional takeoff and landing service using ILS with GBAS. Unlike ILS, GBAS which uses precision approach service inducing aircraft to airport and satellite based augmentation system providing precise position information service surrounding airport is capable of providing a required performance by only a system, regardless of the number of systems, and has an advantage that it is possible curved approach. In this paper, fuel reduction of ILS approach procedures and GBAS curved approach procedures is estimated and determined by flight test in Taean Airport.

  • This paper reviews existing message-filtering schemes and presents a quantization-based message-filtering approach which reduces state update transmission and message traffic requirement. For a realization of the approach we develop a DEVS-based integrator which provides behavior and characteristic of the quantization-based approach. We take a spaceship and space traveling system as a case study to evaluate performance of the quantization-based approach. The approach is validated by DEVSJAVA simulations of the case study. The comparison of message traffic requirement between DTSS (Discrete Time System Specification)-based and DEVS-based systems apparently shows system performance improvement through the quantization-based approach.

  • Rock masses represent natural systems that are inherently complex and in which multiple mechanisms occur. Rock engineering systems such as tunnel and slope interact with surrounding systems through an exchange of both mass and energy. Accordingly the complex nature of rock masses calls for a system approach, and the open nature of rock engineering even requires the engineering to be controlled by a system approach for surrounding environments. However, traditional methods cannot take all variables and their interactions into account and are limited to the system with single mechanisms. Therefore, they are not proper for a complex and open system, and also cannot portray the whole system. Thus, a system approach is indispensable to rock engineering for dealing with the whole of a complex and open system. In this paper Mechanism Path Analysis Methodology (MPAM) Is Introduced for a system approach to rock engineering. The analysis by the methodology gives us all the information of systems behavior in the context of the whole system in order to accomplish the optimum design in accordance with the project objectives and analysis purposes. As an application a conventional model for the evaluation of TBM tunneling performance system is analyzed by MPAM and the result is compared with that by a traditional method.

  • The recent control system has been changed into the type of PLC(Programmable Logic Controller) control. Up to now, systematic approach of PLC programming or control logic design is not suggested. In this study, the design process of the control logic is systematized and concrete process in each step is suggested. This systematized approach lead developer to be convenient to implement control system. When some error is occurred in the system, this approach enable the developer to analyze the reason of error rapidly and the system is amended according to systematic information of the analysis. The example of control system implementation following this approach is introduced.
