  • Petrochemicals contain a wide variety of monomers and their derivatives which are used in the production of plastics, fibers and synthetic rubber. Until now, petrochemicals have had a dramatic impact on our food, clothing, shelter and leisure because they are the least expensive, most readily available, and can be processed most easily into the end use products. Petrochemical industry, which is known as one of the typical cycle profitability businesses, is now moving downward. In order to overcome the anticipated loss of profit, petrochemical companies are making an effort to offer a value-added upgrading to conventional products. This lecture will discuss a few of issues on the current status and prospect of petrochemical industry.

  • The use of synthetic pesticides in crop production, brings the possibility of a nonselective toxicity and accumulation of toxic compounds in the environment. As an alternative, bioactive compounds from actinomycetes can provide a rich source for biodegradable pesticides. A variety of biological activities such as antibacterial, antifungal, herbicidal, insecticidal and anticoccidial are associated with these microbial metabolites. Studies on the production of bioactive compounds from marine-derived actinomycetes have been very few, compared to the terrestrial actinomycetes. With their unique metabolic and physiological capabilities, the marine actinomycetes can be useful producers of novel metabolites.

  • The objective of this paper is to present a method for synthetic performance and quality evaluation of dial up network modem in users place. In the past, universally recognized criteria have not been available to model switched network modem performance. Reasonable assurance of modem performance on the public switched telephone network by standardized test channel which is suggested by ELA(Electronic Industries Association). These tests of modem from a variety manufacturers more reflective of actual performance on the network.

  • The cross-coupling reaction of organo tin reagents with a variety of organic halides, catalyzed by palladium, provides a novel method for generating a carbon-carbon bond. We used this method for the antibacterial agents, and synthesis of new quinolone derivatives which have carbon-carbon bond at C-7 position of general quinolone moieties. Aryl tin, quinolone moieties, and palladium catalyst were refluxed in DMF to afford new quinolone derivatives. This palladium catalyzed coupling reactions have capacity for further synthetic elaboration.

Evaluation of the Genetic Toxicity of Synthetic Chemicals [XII] -in vitro Chromosomal Aberration Assay with 11 Chemicals in Chinese Hamster Lung Fibroblast-

  • The validation of many synthetic chemicals that may pose a genetic hazard in our environment is of great concern at present. Since these substances are not limited to the original products, and enter the environment, they have become widespread environmental pollutants, thus leading to a variety of chemicals that possibly threaten the public health. In this respect, the regulation and evaluation of the chemical hazard playa very important role to environment and human health. The clastogenicity of 11 synthetic chemicals was evaluated in Chinese hamster lung (CHL) fibroblast in vitro. Benzoyl chloride (CAS No. 98-88-4) induced chromosomal aberrations with statistical significance at the concentration of 31-123 $\mug/ml$ and 43 $\mug/ml$ in the absence and presence of S-9 metabolic activation system, respectively. 2-Propyn-l-o1 (CAS No. 107-19-7) and 2-Phenoxy ethanol (CAS No. 122-99-6) revealed clastogenicity only at the highest concentration in the presence of S-9 mixture. However, 1-naphthol (CAS No. 90-15-3) which is one of the most cytotoxic chemical among 11 chemicals tested revealed no clastogenicity both in the presence and absence of S-9 metabolic activation system. From the results of chromosomal aberration assay with 11 synthetic chemicals in CHL fibroblast in vitro, Benzoyl chloride (CAS No. 98-88-4), 2-Propyn-l-01 (CAS No. 107-19-7) and 2-Phenoxy ethanol (CAS No. 122-99-6) revealed positive clastogenic results in this study.

In this respect, to regulate and to evaluate the chemical hazard will be important to environment and human health. The clastogenicity of 17 synthetic chemicals was evaluated in Chinese hamster lung fibroblast cells in vitro. Two most cytotoxic chemicals, dodecyl methacrylate (CAS No. 142-90-5) and 2-ethylhexyl methacrylate (CAS No. 688-84-6), among 17 chemicals tested revealed no clastogenicity in the range of 0.0165-0.066 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ and 0.006-0.024 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ both in the presence and absence of metabolic activation system, respectively. All 17 chemicals revealed no significant induction of chromosomal aberration both in the presence and absence of metabolic activation system in this assay. From the results of chromosomal aberration assay with 17 synthetic chemicals in Chinese hamster lung cells in vitro, we did not observed positive clastogenic results in this study.

  • 본 논문에서는 송신 레이다와 수신 레이다가 분리된 바이스태틱(bistatic) 환경에서 합성 개구면 레이다(synthetic aperture radar: SAR) 영상을 형성하는 기법에 관하여 서술한다. 바이스태틱 SAR는 모노스태틱(monostatic) SAR에 비해 다양한 SAR 영상 획득 시나리오를 형성할 수 있기 때문에 기존의 모노스태틱 SAR의 한계를 극복할 수 있다. 그러나 현재까지 국내에서 바이스태틱 SAR 영상 형성과 관련된 연구가 매우 미진한 상황이다. 이에 따라 본 논문에서는 바이스태틱 기하구조에서의 레이다 수신 신호를 모델링하고, 이를 모노스태틱 등가 모델(equivalent model)을 활용하여 바이스태틱 SAR 영상을 형성하는 방법에 관하여 서술한다. 본 논문에서는 바이스태틱 기하구조에서의 모의시험을 통해 본 논문에서 서술된 바이스태틱 SAR 영상 형성 기법의 효용성을 검증한다.

폭발 단결정과 합성 다결정 나노다이아몬드의 물리화학적 특성 비교 (Comparison of Chemicophysics Properties of the Detonation Monocrystalline and Synthetic Polycrystalline Nanodiamond)

  • 나노다이아몬드는 넓은 적용성 측면을 고려한다면 상대적으로 신물질이라 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 XRD, EDS, HRTEM, FTIR, Raman 분광기, 열분석 장치와 BET 측정 장치와 같은 다양한 장비를 통해 단결정 폭발 나노다이아몬드와 다결정 합성 나노다이아몬드의 물리화학적 특성들을 고찰하였다. 단결정 폭발 나노다이아몬드는 4nm ~ 6nm 크기의 구형이나 타원 모양이지만, 다결정 합성 다이아몬드는 80nm ~ 120nm 크기의 각이 진 입체도형 모양이다. 단결정과 다결정 나노다이아몬드의 표면은 수산기, 카보닐기, 카복실기 등과 같은 다양한 관능기를 가지고 있다. 질소분위기 하에서 단결정 폭발 나노다이아몬드의 상전이 온도는 대략 $650^{\circ}C$이었다.

피브린 결합능을 가진 합성 펩타이드의 치주인대 세포에 대한 생물학적 영향 (The biologic effect of fibrin-binding synthetic oligopeptide on periodontal ligament cells)

  • Purpose: Fibronectin(FN), one of the major components of ECM, mediates wide variety of cellular interactions including cell adhesion, migration, proliferation and differentiation. In this study, we used synthetic peptides based on fibrin binding sites of amino-terminal of FN and evaluated their biologic effects on periodontal ligament(PDL) cells. Materials and methods: PDL cells were cultured on synthetic oligopeptides coated dishes and examined for cell adhesion, proliferation via confocal microscope. For detection of ERK1/2, cells were plated and Western blot analysis was performed. Results: PDL cells on synthetic oligopeptide coated dishes showed enhanced cell adhesion and proliferation. Western blot analysis revealed increased level of ERK1/2 phosphorylation in cells plated on FN fragment containing fibrin-binding domain(FF1 and FF5) coated dishes. Conclusion: These results reveals that FN fragment containing fibrin-binding domain possess an enhanced biologic effect of PDL ligament cells.

전기분해 염소소독공정의 반응표면분석법을 이용한 차아염소산나트륨 발생 최적화 (Application of Response Surface Methodology to Optimize the Performance of the Electro-Chlorination Process)

  • Background: Disinfection is essential to provide drinking water from a water source. The disinfection process mainly consists of the use of chlorine and ozone, but when chlorine is used as a disinfectant, the problem of disinfection by-products arises. In order to resolve the issue of disinfection by-products, electro-chlorination technology that produces chlorine-based disinfectants from salt water through electrochemical principles should be applied. Objectives: This study surveys the possibility of optimally producing active chlorine from synthetic NaCl solutions using an electro-chlorination system through RSM. Methods: Response surface methodology (RSM) has been used for modeling and optimizing a variety of water and wastewater treatment processes. This study surveys the possibility of optimally producing active chlorine from synthetic saline solutions using electrolysis through RSM. Various operating parameters, such as distance of electrodes, sodium chloride concentration, electrical potential, and electrolysis time were evaluated. Results: Various operating parameters, such as distance of electrodes, sodium chloride concentration, electrical potential, and electrolysis time were evaluated. A central composite design (CCD) was applied to determine the optimal experimental factors for chlorine production. Conclusions: The concentration of the synthetic NaCl solution and the distance between electrodes had the greatest influence on the generation of hypochlorite disinfectant. The closer the distance between the electrodes and the higher the concentration of the synthetic NaCl solution, the more hypochlorous acid disinfectant was produced.
