  • This paper deals with dynamic characteristics of the experimental magnetic levitation vehicle employing LSM(Linear Synchronous Motor) for propulsion. To predict the dynamic characteristics of the system, the dynamic model which is composed of the electrical elements such as electromagnets and LSM and mechanical components and is developed based on multibody dynamics is developed. The resulting system equations of motion for the model are a coupled one representing all the mechanical and electrical parts. To verify the dynamic model of the system, air gaps are measured in both running tests and simulation, and the frequency characteristics of air gaps are analyzed. From the results, it can be seen that the frequency responses are almost the same. Finally, to evaluate the levitation stability and the designed controller, numerical simulations are carried out.

  • This paper presents a synchronous pipeline design for IP-based H.264 decoding system. The first optimization for pipelining aims at efficiently resolving the data dependency due to motion compensation/intra prediction feedback data flow in H.264 decoder. The second one would enhance the efficiency of execution per each pipelining stage to explore the optimized latency and stage number. Thus, the 3 stage pipeline of CAVLD&ITQ|MC/IP&Rec.|DF is obtained to yield the best throughput and implementation. In experiments, it is found that the synchronous pipelined H.264 decoding system, based on existing IPs, could deal with Full HD video at 125.34MHz, in real time.

  • Linear motors can drive a linear motion without intermediate gears, screws or crank shafts. Linear motors can successfully replace ball lead screw in machine tools because they have a high velocity, acceleration and good positioning accuracy. On the other hand, linear motors emit large amounts of heat and have low efficiency. In this paper, heat sources of a synchronous linear motor with high velocity and force measured and analyzed. To improve the thermal characteristics of the linear motor, an insulation layer with low thermal conductivity is inserted between cooler and machine table. Some effects of the insulation layer are presented.

  • We study the pseudo-synchronous orbital motion of a binary system on the main sequence. The equations of the pseudo-synchronous orbit are derived up to $O(e^4)$ where e is the eccentricy of the orbit. We integrate the equations to present their solutions. The theoretical results are applied to the evolution of the orbit and spin of the binary star Y Cygni, which has a current eccentricity of $e_0\;=\;0.142$. We tabulate our numerical results for the evolution of the orbit and spin per century. The numerical results for the semi-major axes and rotational angular velocities in the evolutional time scales of three stages (synchronization, circularization, and collapse time scale) are also tabulated. Synchronization is achieved in about $5{\times}10^3\;years$ followed by circularization lasting about $1{\times}10^5\;years$ before decaying in $2{\times}10^5\;years$.

  • In this paper, active noise control is performed in a duct system using the periodic pulse train which corresponds to the periodic component of noise source as a reference signal. Control algorithm applied in this study is possible to eliminate the acoustic feedback which occurs in the conventional filtered-x and filtered-u LMS algorithm by using electrical reference signal and has the fast adaptation speed with low filter orders by using synchronous sampling method is discussed via computer simulations and experiments of case studies such as frequency modulation, amplitude modulation and frequency differency between source signal and reference signal.

  • A novel control scheme of using a single electronic drive to synchronize two synchronous motors is investigated analytically. The developed control strategy extends the conventional vector control technology, Specifically, it utilizes the property that the motion of two motors can be independently controlled by the q-axis currents provided the desired q-axis currents can be achieved by adjusting physical armature currents. The latter part is indeed guaranteed by adding a position offset to one of the motors. This work has a potential of cost saving in practice where the cost of drive is a major concern.

  • Recently, there are many studies for the micro-machining using Piezo actuator. However, because of its step by step motion, it is nearly impossible to increase the machining accuracy for a circular path. To increase the accuracy, it is well known that it is necessary the finer and synchronous movement for x-y axes. Therefore, this paper proposes a voltage control for finer movement of the actuator, and realizes a synchronous control for the x-y axes. The experimental results show that the machining accuracy is remarkably improved.

  • A PID-feedforward controller and Robust Internal-loop Compensator (RIC) based on reinforcement learning using random variable sequences are provided to auto-tune parameters for each controller in the high-precision position control of PMLSM (Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor). Experiments prove the well-tuned controller could be reduced up to one-fifth level of tracking errors before learning by reinforcement learning. The RIC compared to the PID-feedforward controller showed approximately twice the performance in reducing tracking error and disturbance rejection.

  • The uneven reaction surface profile facing the lift magnets in attractive Maglev vehicles naturally brings about pitch motion of the bogie. In particular, in the placement configuration of the long stator of the linear synchronous motor (LSM) on the track for high-speed propulsion, surface irregularities and the offsets between the stator packs create measurable airgaps, i.e., the clearance between the magnet and the stator, with discontinuously extreme values, resulting in bogie pitch motion. This occurs because the airgap velocities and accelerations derived by the differentiations of the measured air-gaps are used to determine the voltages applied to the magnets. This paper incorporates bogie pitch motion into a control law for each magnet controller to reduce the variations in both the airgap and the pitch angle. The effectiveness of the proposed method is analyzed using a full-scale Maglev vehicle running over a test track.
