  • In conventional RBF network, the activation functions of hidden layers generally are symmetric functions like gaussian function. This has been considered to be one of the limiting factors for the network to speed up learning of actuately describing a given function. To avoid this criticism, we propose a pseudo gaussian function (PGF) whose deviation is changed according to the direction of incoming pattern. This property helps to estimate the given function more effectively with a minimal number of centers because of its flexibility of functional representation. Adaptive M-estimation in Regression Model

  • In this paper we introduce some adaptive M-estimators using selector statistics to estimate the slope of regression model under the symmetric and continuous underlying error distributions. This selector statistics is based on the residuals after the preliminary fit L$_1$ (least absolute estimator) and the idea of Hogg(1983) and Hogg et. al. (1988) who used averages of some order statistics to discriminate underlying symmetric distributions in the location model. If we use L$_1$ as a preliminary fit to get residuals, we find the asymptotic distribution of sample quantiles of residual are slightly different from that of sample quantiles in the location model. If we use the functions of sample quantiles of residuals as selector statistics, we find the suitable quantile points of residual based on maximizing the asymptotic distance index to discriminate distributions under consideration. In Monte Carlo study, this adaptive M-estimation method using selector statistics works pretty good in wide range of underlying error distributions.

  • In this paper, we consider a fuzzy system representation for polynomials of two variables. The representation we use is an exact transformation of the corresponding cubic spline interpolation function. We examine some of the properties of their fuzzy rule tables md prove that the rule table is symmetric or antisymmetric depending on whether the polynomial is symmetric or antisymmetric. A few examples are included to verify our proof. These results not only provide some insights on properties of the cubic spline interpolation coefficients but also provide some help in setting up fuzzy rule tables for functions of two variables.

  • Free vibration of symmetric angle-ply layered conical shell frusta of variable thickness is analyzed under shear deformation theory with different boundary conditions by applying collocation with spline approximation. Linear and exponential variation in thickness of layers are assumed in axial direction. Displacements and rotational functions are approximated by Bickley-type splines of order three and obtained a generalized eigenvalue problem. This problem is solved numerically for an eigenfrequency parameter and an associated eigenvector of spline coefficients. The vibration of three and five-layered conical shells, made up of two different type of materials are considered. Parametric studies are made for analysing the frequencies of the shell with respect to the coefficients of thickness variations, length-to-radius ratio, length-to-thickness ratio and ply angles with different combination of the materials. The results are compared with the available data and new results are presented in terms of tables and graphs.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the damping behavior of a flexible joint. The slip at a structrual joint is selected at the tips of two identical cantilever beams adjoining each other. Both the direction of normal force and its magnitude varies due to the global deformation of the structure from mode to mode in the friction model. The friction dependent on vibration displacements resultsin the same functional behavior of the hysteretic material damping. Linearized energy loss factors are obtained as functions of both linear and torsional spring stiffness for their groups of symmetric and anti-symmetric modes, respectively. Experimental measurements as made for comparisons with analytical estimations by controlling the magnitude of fastening torque in the fastener, Hi-Lite. Trends on damping levelsmeasured in a very common vibration test method make an excellent agreement on the estimated damping levels.

Depth-Based rank test for multivariate two-sample scale problem

  • In this paper, a depth-based nonparametric test for a multivariate two-sample scale problem is proposed. The proposed test statistic is based on the depth-induced ranks and is thus distribution-free. In this article, the depth values of data points of one sample are calculated with respect to the other sample or distribution and vice versa. A comprehensive simulation study is used to examine the performance of the proposed test for symmetric as well as skewed distributions. Comparison of the proposed test with the existing depth-based nonparametric tests is accomplished through empirical powers over different depth functions. The simulation study admits that the proposed test outperforms existing nonparametric depth-based tests for symmetric and skewed distributions. Finally, an actual life data set is used to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed test.

  • Free vibration of cross-ply laminated plates using a higher-order shear deformation theory is studied. The arbitrary number of layers is oriented in symmetric and anti-symmetric manners. The plate kinematics are based on higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT) and the vibrational behaviour of multi-layered plates are analysed under simply supported boundary conditions. The differential equations are obtained in terms of displacement and rotational functions by substituting the stress-strain relations and strain-displacement relations in the governing equations and separable method is adopted for these functions to get a set of ordinary differential equations in term of single variable, which are coupled. These displacement and rotational functions are approximated using cubic and quantic splines which results in to the system of algebraic equations with unknown spline coefficients. Incurring the boundary conditions with the algebraic equations, a generalized eigen value problem is obtained. This eigen value problem is solved numerically to find the eigen frequency parameter and associated eigenvectors which are the spline coefficients.The material properties of Kevlar-49/epoxy, Graphite/Epoxy and E-glass epoxy are used to show the parametric effects of the plates aspect ratio, side-to-thickness ratio, stacking sequence, number of lamina and ply orientations on the frequency parameter of the plate. The current results are verified with those results obtained in the previous work and the new results are presented in tables and graphs.

복합적층 및 샌드위치판 전단변형함수에 관한 상호비교연구 (Comparison of Various Shear Deformation Functions for Laminated Composite/Sandwich Plates)

  • 본 연구에서는 Lagrangian 및 Hermite 보간함수를 혼합정식화한 유한요소법과 다양한 전단변형함수로 등방성, 대칭 적층 및 샌드위치판 모델을 제시하였다. 제시된 전단변형이론은 판의 상하면에서 전단응력이 0이 되는 다항식, 삼각함수, 쌍곡삼각함수 및 지수함수로 구성되어 있다. 모든 전단변형함수는 해석해, 정해 및 기발표된 유한요소 결과치와 비교하였으며, 합리적인 정확도를 갖는 것으로 예측되었다. 특히, 지수형태의 전단변형함수(Karama et al. 2003; Aydogu 2009)가 적층 및 샌드위치판 해석에 있어서 상대적으로 가장 우수한 결과를 보였다.

  • In this present work, the authors obtain Fekete-Szeg$\ddot{o}$ inequality for certain normalized analytic function f(z) defined on the open unit disk for which $\frac{(1-{\alpha})z(D^m_{{\lambda},{\mu}}f(z))'+{\alpha}z(D^{m+1}_{{\lambda},{\mu}}f(z))'}{(1-{\alpha})D^m_{{\lambda},{\mu}}f(z)+{\alpha}D^{m+1}_{{\lambda},{\mu}}f(z)}$ ${\alpha}{\geq}0$) lies in a region starlike with respect to 1 and is symmetric with respect to the real axis. Also certain applications of the main result for a class of functions defined by Hadamard product (or convolution) are given. As a special case of this result, Fekete-Szeg$\ddot{o}$ inequality for a class of functions defined through fractional derivatives is obtained. The motivation of this paper is to generalize the Fekete-Szeg$\ddot{o}$ inequalities obtained by Srivastava et al., Orhan et al. and Shanmugam et al., by making use of the generalized differential operator $D^m_{{\lambda},{\mu}}$.

코드할당에 의한 다치논리함수의 모듈러 함수분해에 관한 연구 (A modular function decomposition of multiple-valued logic functions using code assignment)

  • This paper presents modular design techniques of multiple-valued logic functions about the function decomposition method and input variable management method. The function decomposition method takes avantage of the property of the column multiplicity in a single-column variable partitioning. Due to the increased number of identical modules, we can achieve a simpler circuit design by using a single T-gate, which can eliminate some of the control functions in the module libraty types. The input variable management method is to reduce the complexity of the input variables by proposing the look up table which assign input variables to a code. In this case as the number of sub-functions increase the code-length and the size of the code-assignment table grow. We identify some situations where shard input variables among sub-functions can be further reduced by a simplicication technique. According to the result of adapting this method to a function, we have demonstrated the superiority of the proposed methods which is bing decreased to about 12% of interconnection and about 16% of T-gate numbers compare with th eexisting for th enon-symmetric and irregular function realization.
