This paper presents static and dynamic measurement of the stress and motion characteristics for crawler type excavators. Eight scenarios were prepared for static measurement based on two extreme digging positions, maximum digging reach position and maximum digging force position. The measured items for static motion included stress, cylinder pressure, cylinder stroke and digging force. The measured static stresses showed that asymmetric digging force acting on a bucket induced higher stress level than symmetric one. The measured static pressures and digging forces also agreed with design pressures and design digging forces, respectively. The dynamic measurement was performed for two types of motion, that is, simple reciprocation of each cylinder and actual digging motion. The measured items for dynamic motion were stroke and pressure of each cylinder, stresses on the working device and acceleration on the upper plate of an arm. The measured data showed that the natural frequency of the excavator highly depended on the hydraulic stiffness of cylinders. Digging motion tests revealed that digging motion was closer to static motion rather than dynamic one.

For traditional Leak-Before-Break(LBB) analyses, symmetric conditions were assumed for a pipe-nozzle interface to simplify the analysis in calculating J-integral. However. this assumption could result in an overly conservative design criteria for a pipe-nozzle interface, Since the pipe-nozzle interface is asymmetric due to the difference of stiffness between pipe and nozzle, it is required to develop a new methodology considering the nozzle effect. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the effect of nozzle no the development of LBB design criteria for nuclear pipings. For this purpose, extensive finite element analysis were performed to evaluate the effect of nozzle on Crack Opening Area(COA), Detectable Leakage Crack(DLC) length and J-integral values. In conclusion, it was proven that the application of LBB concept could be extended for more nuclear piping system by considering the nozzle.

This paper presents modular design techniques of multiple-valued logic functions about the function decomposition method and input variable management method. The function decomposition method takes avantage of the property of the column multiplicity in a single-column variable partitioning. Due to the increased number of identical modules, we can achieve a simpler circuit design by using a single T-gate, which can eliminate some of the control functions in the module libraty types. The input variable management method is to reduce the complexity of the input variables by proposing the look up table which assign input variables to a code. In this case as the number of sub-functions increase the code-length and the size of the code-assignment table grow. We identify some situations where shard input variables among sub-functions can be further reduced by a simplicication technique. According to the result of adapting this method to a function, we have demonstrated the superiority of the proposed methods which is bing decreased to about 12% of interconnection and about 16% of T-gate numbers compare with th eexisting for th enon-symmetric and irregular function realization.

Plastics is used to produce precise parts with an inclusion of a reinforcement material such as glass fiber or carbon fiber to improve the dimension accuracy. The plastic goods can be produced with inaccurate dimensions, low mechanical strength, or residual stress due to the over packing of cavity inside, if the filling balance of melt resin is not accomplished. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to design the runner system with the geometrical balance at the mold design stage. However, even if the balanced runner system is achieved, a severe filling imbalance is observed practically in a multi-cavity mold. In this study, experiments were performed with Taguchi method to achieve the filling balance in multi-cavity mold with a symmetric runner system, by the use of pure PA and PA with glass fiber 33%. The experimental results were investigated to understand the effect of related molding factors on the filling imbalance for two resins.
An overhead travelling crane structure of two doubly symmetric welded box beams is designed for minimum cost. The rails are placed over the inner webs of box beams. The following design constraints are considered: local buckling of web and flange plates, fatigue of the butt K weld under rail and fatigue of fillet welds joining the transverse diaphragms to the box beams, fatigue of CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastic) laminate, deflection constraint. For the formulation of constraints the relatively new standard for cranes EN 13001-3-1 (2010) is used. To fulfill the deflection constraint CFRP strengthening should be used. The application of CFRP materials in strengthening of steel and concrete structures are widely used in civil engineering applications due to their unique advantages. In our study, we wanted to show how the mechanical properties of traditional materials can be improved by the application of composite materials and how advanced materials and new production technologies can be applied. In the optimization the following cost parts are considered: material, assembly and welding of the steel structure, material and fabrication cost of CFRP strengthening. The optimization is performed by systematic search using a MathCAD program.
Laser welding is widely used in the industry for the advantage of small heat affected zone and short weld process time. Conduction limit welding can be used to modify the surface characteristic and it is important to identify the heat affecting area correctly for the improvement of manufacturing accuracy. Since time and length scale associated with laser welding process are extremely small, numerical study can be a useful tool. In this study, two-dimensional axi-symmetric version of energy equation with enthalpy method has been used to analyze the effect of laser input conditions on final shape by the laser welding process. The proposed numerical procedure has been benchmarked with several experimental results and compared well. The modified Marangoni and Peclet number have been introduced using controllable input variables. Simple parametric researches have been performed for high Pr number material. The results show that higher Marangoni number increase fluid mixing, thus generating convex type weld pool. On the other hand, the width of the weld pool is proportional to Peclet number.

This paper describes the design and implementation of the PKI-based EAI system which is used for delivery of sensitive personal information between business systems. For this purpose, we propose a key exchange protocol with some key process : Diffie-Hellman Schema is used to provide forward secrecy, public key-based digital signature is used for EAI Server authentication, data integrity. In addition, in order to minimize the performance impact on the overall EAI systems. The EAI server was designed simply to be used only as a gateway. This paper shows the implementation of Korea public key authentication algorithm standard and a symmetric encryption algorithm for data encryption.

Most supersonic-flow test facility has axisymmetric nozzles or two-dimensional symmetric nozzles. Compared to these nozzles, a two-dimensional asymmetric nozzle has advantages of reducing low cost for various Mach number testing and undesirable flow structure such as shock wave reflection because the nozzle part can be directly connected to the test section part in this type of nozzle. The two-dimensional asymmetric nozzle, which was Mach number 2, was designed for supersonic combustion experiment. And it was verified with the numerical analysis and visualization of Mach wave. This study suggested the practical method for design and verification of supersonic two dimensional asymmetric nozzles.
An unobstructed off-axis two-mirror system is presented in this paper. First a suitable initial configuration is established based on third-order aberration theory. In order to achieve a wide field of view (FOV) with high image quality , the diffractive mirror is adopted in the two-mirror system to increase the optimization freedom and the aberration relationship between diffractive phase coefficients and Zernike coefficients is derived. Furthermore, a complete comparison design example with a focal length of 1200 mm, F-number of 12, and FOV of 40° × 2° is given to verify the aberration correction ability of the diffractive mirror. The system average wavefront error is 0.007 λ (λ=0.6328 μm) developed from 0.061 λ when the system didn’t adopt the diffractive mirror. In this system the phase modulation function of the diffractive mirror is established as an even function of x, so we could obtain a symmetrical imaging quality about the tangential plane, and the symmetric aberration performance also brings considerable convenience to alignment and testing for the system.
The partial product matrix of a parallel squarer are symmetric about the diagonal. To reduce the number of partial product bits and the depth of partial product matrix, it can be typically folded, shifted and bit-rearranged. In this paper, an efficient design approach for the combined squarer, capable of operating on either unsigned or signed numbers based on a mode selection signal, is presented. By simulations, it is shown that the proposed combined squarers lead to up to 18% reduction in area, 11% reduction in propagation delay and 9% reduction in power consumption compared with the previous combined squarers.
