The main gate of a university is a element of landscape which improves the quality of campus as well as demarcates the boundary and publicizes the image of university. Therefore, each university strives to differentiate its main gate from that of other universities with a unique form. This research investigates the signs and symbols shown at the university's main gate of 18 universities in Korea, and also presents useful design tips with the objective of bearing the spirit of the campus and its founding ideology. The results of this research as follows: Icons of Sign for 18 universities can be classified into five separate categories: things, human, animal, character, and metaphor. Examples of the 'things' icons include a pen nib, the sun, the cross, a big bell, and so on. Also, the meaning of the represented symbols can be grouped in three separate categories: university's development, contribution to society, and mining of knowledge. From the three category, university development symbol is the most likely to be used.

In this paper, we propose a new architecture of the fast symbol timing synchronization system which has some shared hardware blocks in order to reduce the hardware complexity. The proposed system consists of received power detector, correlation power detector using shared complex moving adders, and 2-step peak detector. Our system has detected FFT starting point within three Symbols using first two reference symbols of the frame in wireless ATM system. The new architecture was designed and simulated using VHDL. Our proposed architecture also detects a correct symbol timing synchronization within three symbols under a multi-path fading channel.

본 논문에서는 MRC(Maximal Ratio Combing) 결합 기법을 사용한 RAKE 수신기에서 채널 추정 알고리즘에 따른 성능을 분석한다. 채널 추정 알고리즘에는 WMSA(Weighted Multi-Slot Averaging), 동일 이득 채널 추정 (Equal Cain Estimation ; ECE), 심볼 단위 채널 추정(Symbol-to-Symbol Estimation ; SSE)의 세 가지가 있는데 상업용 시뮬레이션 틀인 HP사의 ADS를 이용하여 비동기 방식 IMT-2000시스템(3GPP)을 대상으로 성능을 분석한다. 성능 분석을 위해서 본 논문은 Jakes 페이딩 채널 모델을 사용한다. 모의실험 결과를 통하여, 저속 도플러(3Km/h)일 때 WMSA 알고리즘이 다른 알고리즘 성능보다 더 좋음을 알 수 있다. 그러나 고속 도플러(120Km/h)일 때, 간단한 구조를 갖는 ECE 알고리즘이 보다 더 유용함을 알 수 있다.

Geological symbols are used for describing geological information. But it's not ease to represent them in commercial GIS s/w, because of their complexity and diversity. This study aims at developing the geological symbol mapping tool for representing geological symbol on user's geological information. Geological symbol mapping too is a web application which can handle SHP format and map geological symbols based on user's requests. It manages geological symbols and mapping codes and symbols are mapped within the geological boundary according to the corresponding non-spatial field that is a mapping code. The system has functions to upload a user's GIS file, and download the converted image file which is mapped geological patterns. The system displays converted images to be check mapping results. Because the symbols are simple bitmap files, user(system manager) can design and apply them rapidly without considering specific commercial S/W. Thus, it is expected that this system plays an important role to disseminate geological standards such as geological symbols. And the results of this study can be used for developing global geological symbols and applying them easily

이 연구는 이용하여 병원에서 주로 사용되는 의료 심볼 중 영상의학과 3종, 핵의학과 3종, 종양학과 3종의 심볼을 fMRI 분석을 통해 기억과 관련된 해마의 신호값(SI)을 측정하였으며 연구 결과. 영상의학과, 핵의학과, 종양학과의 심볼 1, 심볼 2, 심볼 3에 대한 SI값 분석결과 영상의학과는 심볼 3의 SI(1.72 ±0.56)값이, 핵의학과는 심볼2의 SI(1.69 ±0.64)값이, 종양학과는 심볼2의 SI(1.64 ±0.63)값이 각각 가장 높았다. 영상의학과, 핵의학과, 종양학과 심볼의 전체 평균은 핵의학과(1.62±0.60), 종양학과(1.61 ±0.59), 영상의학과(1.49±0.49)의 순이었다. 전체적인 SI 측정 결과값을 통해 본 결과 영상의학과의 경우 심볼3, 핵의학과의 경우 심볼2, 종양학과의 경우 심볼2 가 높은 SI 값을 확인할 수 있었다. SI 값이 높은 심볼을 병원에서 사용한다면 어느 병원에 방문하든 길찾기에 도움이 될 거라 생각된다.

본 논문에서는 다중 입출력 (MIMO) 공간다중화 (spatial multiplelxing, SM) 시스템을 위한 효율적인 심볼 검출 알고리즘이 제안되고, 이의 최적 설계 및 구현 결과가 제시된다. 에러 전파 (error propagation)을 야기하는 첫 검출 심볼의 검출 성능을 개선시킴으로써, 제안된 알고리즘은 기존의 정렬된 QR 분해 (sorted QR decomposition, SQRD) 기반 알고리즘이나 정렬된 순차적 검출 (ordered successive detection, OSD) 알고리즘에 비해 성능 이득을 얻을 수 있다. 4개의 송수신 안테나를 갖는 16QAM MIMO-SM 시스템에 대한 성능 평가 결과, 제안된 알고리즘은 기존 알고리즘에 비해 $10^{-3}$의 EBR에서 약 2.5-13.5 dB의 성능 이득을 얻음을 확인하였다. 제안된 알고리즘은 하드웨어 설계 언어를 이용하여 설계 되었고, 0.18um CMOS 표준 셀 공정 라이브러리를 이용하여 합성 및 구현되었다. 구현결과, 제안된 알고리즘은 하드웨어의 큰 증가없이 구현 가능함을 확인할 수 있었다.

현대 교회건축은 그 형태와 공간의 구성 및 디자인방법에서 많은 문제점들을 보여주고 있다. 많은 교회들이 기독교적인 정체성의 표현이 결여된 채 건축되어 지고 있다. 안도 타다오의 교회건축의 특성은 전이공간, 빛과 그림자 그리고 상징의 효과적인 구성으로 나타난다. 전이공간은 한국과 일본 등의 사찰에서의 공간체험의 프로세스를 도입한 것으로 보이며 그것은 예배당을 항해 접근하는 동안 사색의 시간을 제공하며 속의 공간에서 성의 공간으로의 극적인 반전을 가능하게 한다. 안도 타다오는 자립벽을 경계로 성과 속의 공간을 구획하였다. 초기 기독교건축 이래로 빛은 교회건축의 중요한 요소였다. 안도 타다오는 현대교회건축이 잃어버린 빛과 그림자를 효과적으로 도입하여 공간의 깊이와 신성을 표현하였다. 안도 타다오에게서 상징은 모든 것이 절제되어진 그의 건축공간에서 기독교의 정체성을 나타내는 적극적이고 효율적인 표현 방법이다. 그는 상징을 건축이나 공간에 부가적인 요소가 아니라 건축과 일체가 되게 표현함으로서 공간 전체가 하나의 기독교적인 정체성을 나타내는 오브제가 되도록 하였다.

This study explored interpretation of the symbolical and metaphorical aesthetics in experiencing art/craft/handmade/studio furniture theoretically for 'wood culture experience class' or 'wood love experience class' by the Korea Forest Service because the class tends to focus on making simple wood works involved just in the practical part. Qualitative conceptual analysis as the principal methodology was used to achieve the theoretical context in the experience programs. After the lesson one on defining the postmodern aesthetics in New Design furniture as metaphor in the previous paper, I developed lesson two for an aesthetics of art and everyday life with wood furniture which expresses the metaphorical and symbolical aesthetics appeared as New Design furniture in postmodernism. As statement of objective in the second lesson, I explored that students in elementary schools personally transform and interpret the postmodern aesthetics of New Design furniture metaphorically with the meanings of symbol. As a result, the students will be able to write about the aesthetics of New Design furniture as metaphor in interpretation transformed by his/her perspective of a piece of selected New Design furniture.

In this study, the pattern of texture was developed by applying the pattern shown in the Amita Yeoraebul and the Avalokitesvara with symbolism suitable for children's clothing. In addition, the design and the manufacturing of a children's wearable Hanbok were attempted, and the results are as follows: Amitha Yeoraebul is a Buddha who oversees paradise in Buddhism, and Avalokitesvara controls both paradise and the real world and provides mercy. Applying the various patterns in the Buddhist paintings, four daily hanboks for children were produced using patterns featuring symbolic the meanings of large round original patterns chrysanthemums, turtles, and lotus patterns. The lotus symbol represents love, nobility, and wealth, while the turtle symbol represents longevity, the chrysanthemum pattern symbolizes auspiciousness, and the large round original pattern means a constant continuation. To maintain the traditional hanbok form but allow convenient wear it in daily life, it is made in the jeogori + shorts, vest + long pants, and one-piece + jacket style. Currently, the daily dress of Hanbok and the modernization of traditional Korean clothes are being promoted. At this point, the study developed Hanbok fashion products that contain symbolic stories suitable for children are trying to maintain the image of traditional culture as much as possible.

본 논문은 다양한 소수민족으로 구성된 중국의 가장 대표적 소수민족인 내몽고자치구의 몽고족을 중심으로 그들의 문화상징에 대한 인식과 민족 정체성 확립을 위한 문화상징요소를 설문조사를 통해 체계적으로 정립하여 향후 몽고족의 대외 홍보 및 디자인에 응용 가능한 학제적 기초를 마련하고자한다. 본 논문은 객관적 자료를 위해 몽고족 및 타민족 300명을 대상으로 설문조사 하였으며 그 결과 대부분 몽고족은 소수민족임에 자부심을 느끼고 있으며 소수민족을 대표하는 민족이라 인식하고 있다. 몽고족의 민족성은 사회성이 높고 장식하기 좋아하는 심미성이 있으며, 창의성, 신뢰성, 진취성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 문화상징의 디자인요소 선호도에서는 색상은 청색, 문양은 성길사한의 인물 문양, 재질은 마노를 선호하였으며 상징의미는 평화가 가장 높았다. 문화상징 활용은 축제 때 가장 많이 사용하는 것으로 나타났으며 의류에 가장 많이 적용되는 것으로 파악 되었다. 이런 문화상징을 내몽고의 정체성 확립 및 홍보를 위해 적극 사용해야 한다는 의견이 높았다. 몽고족 문화상징의 체계적 정립은 몽고족의 민족 정체성을 확립하는 중요한 일로, 민족적 의미와 문화적 사명 아래 민족문화자원과 잘 결합되어 소수민족문화의 발전에 도움이 될 뿐만 아니라 소수민족으로서 자부심을 고취시킬 것이다.
