Sensitivity Analysis of Oscillation Modes Occurred by Periodic Switching Operations of TCSC in Discrete Power Systems (이산 전력시스템에서 TCSC의 주기적 스위칭 동작에 의한 진동모드의 감도해석)

  • In this paper, the RCF(Resistive Companion Form) analysis method is applied to analyze small signal stability of power systems including thyristor controlled FACTS(Flexible AC Transmission System) equipments such as TCSC(Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor). The eigenvalue sensitivity analysis algorithm in discrete systems based on the RCF analysis method is presented and applied to the power system including TCSC. As a result of simulation, the RCF analysis method is very useful to precisely calculate the variations of eigenvalues or newly generated unstable oscillation modes after periodic switching operations of TCSC. Also the eigenvalue sensitivity analysis method based on the RCF analysis method enabled to precisely calculate eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients of controller parameters about the dominant oscillation mode after periodic switching operations in discrete systems. These simulation results are different from those of the conventional continuous system analysis method such as the state space equation and showed that the RCF analysis method is very useful to analyze the discrete power systems including periodically operated switching equipments such as TCSC.

  • In this paper, the eigenvalue sensitivity analysis is calculated in the power system which is including both generator controllers such as Exciter, PSS and thyristor controlled FACTS devices in transmission lines such as TCSC. Exciter and PSS are continuously operating controllers but TCSC has a switching device which operates non-continuously. To analyze both continuous and non-continuous operating equipments, the RCF method one of the numerical analysis method in discrete time domain is applied using discrete models of the power system. Also the eigenvalue sensitivity calculation algorithm using state transition equations in discrete time domain is devised and applied to a sampled system. As a result of simulation, the eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients calculated using discrete system models in discrete time domain are changed periodically and showed different values compared to those of continuous system model in time domain by the effect of periodic switching operations of TCSC.

  • The sensitivity of investment with respect to cash flow is positive in imperfect financial markets. Using a switching regression model, cash flow sensitivity of investments in chaebol firms and large firms appears to be higher. Also, investments are found to be more responsive to cash flow during monetary contraction periods. These findings imply that monetary policy works through a credit channel. Furthermore, it appears that monetary policy exerts distributional effects as well as aggregate effects on that firms are unevenly affected by monetary changes.

  • Conventional CMOS image sensors (CISs) have a trade-off relationship between dynamic range and sensitivity. In addition, their sensitivity is determined by the photodiode capacitance. In this paper, CISs that consist of dual-sensitivity photodiodes in a unit pixel are proposed for achieving wide dynamic ranges. In the proposed CIS, signal charges are generated in the dual photodiodes during integration, and these generated signal charges are accumulated in the floating-diffusion node. The signal charges generated in the high-sensitivity photodiodes are transferred to the input of the comparator through an additional source follower, and the signal voltages converted by the source follower are compared with a reference voltage in the comparator. The output voltage of the comparator determines which photodiode is selected. Therefore, the proposed CIS composed of dual-sensitivity photodiodes extends the dynamic range according to the intensity of light. A $94{\times}150$ pixel array image sensor was designed using a conventional $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process and its performance was simulated.

  • Hamilton's Markov-switching model [5] was extended to the simultaneous equations model. A framework for an instrumental variable interpretation of full information maximum likelihood (FIML) by Hausman [4] can be used to deal with the problem of simultaneous equations based on the Hamilton filter [5]. A comparison of the proposed FIML Markov-switching model with the LIML Markov-switching models [1,2,3] revealed the LIML Markov-switching models to be a special case of the proposed FIML Markov-switching model, where all but the first equation were just identified. Moreover, the proposed Markov-switching model is a general form in simultaneous equations and covers a broad class of models that could not be handled previously. Excess sensitivity of marginal propensity to consume with big shocks, such as housing bubble bursts in 2008, can be determined by applying the proposed model to Campbell and Mankiw's consumption function [6], and allowing for the possibility of structural breaks in the sensitivity of consumption growth to income growth.

  • In this paper, the RCF method is applied to analyze small signal stability of power systems including thyristor controlled FACTS equipments such as SVC. The eigenvalue sensitivity analysis algorithm in discrete systems by the RCF method are presented and applied to the power system including SVC. As a result of simulation, the RCF analysis method is very powerful to calculate the newly generated unstable oscillation modes precisely after periodic switching operations of SVC. Also the RCF analysis method enabled to precisely calculate eigenvalue sensitivity coefficients of dominant oscillation modes after periodic switching operations. These simulation results are very different from those of the conventional continuous system analysis method such as the state space equation method.

Studies on a standby repairable system with two types of failure

  • In this paper, we study the reliability analysis of a repairable system with two types of failure in which switching failures and reboot delay are considered. Let units in this system be cold standby, and failure rate and repair rate of [type1, type2] components be exponentially distributed. The expressions of reliability characteristics - such as the system reliability and the mean time to system failure MTTF - are derived. We use several cases to graphically analyze the effect of various system parameters on the system reliability and MTTF. We also perform a sensitivity analysis of the reliability characteristics with changes in specific values of the system's parameters.

  • Drive line shape for reflective magneto-optic spatial light modulator has been designed by computer simulation. A factor of 3 improvement in pixel switching sensitivity and power consumption, compared to the conventional reflective magneto-optic spatial light modulator, has been achieved by the use of wedge-shape drive line and a soft magnetic layer. A factor of 2 higher optical efficiency and a factor of 2 simpler fabrication process have been achieved by the use of drive lines that covers most of the surface of pixel and unpatterned insulator.

Phase Referencing Capability in KVN

  • Following the success of detecting fringes on KVN (Korean VLBI Network), a phase referencing observation is currently planned in order to achieve a better sensitivity in mm-VLBI. The high frequency observation ($\geq$ 22 GHz), wide bandwidths (~512 MHz) and high speed data recording (~1 Gbps, Mark5B) will result in resolution and sensitivity improvement on KVN. In particular, two powerful techniques of VLBI phase correction by fast-antenna switching and multi-frequency phase referencing are also introduced in KVN, hoping to resolve the problem of atmospheric delay errors which degrade the coherence significantly. In this study, we have compared the expected performance of phase referencing between fast antenna switching and multi-frequency phase referencing and discussed the essential condition and postulates of phase referencing for KVN.

  • The electrical and optical switching characteristics of gold-doped silicon p-i-n diodes have been investigated. The device shows a dark switching voltage of about 500 V. The switching voltage decreases rapidly when the illumination level is increased. The differential sensitivity of optical gating over linear region is $d(V_{Th}/V_{Tho})/dP_{Ph}$=0.25/uW. The turn-on delay time and the turn-on rise time decrease with increasing optical pulse power. The turn-off delay and the fall time are negligible.
