  • Recently, using the electronic devices was increased with semiconductor developments. So, the EMI(Electromagnetic interference) problem become to important issue for coexistence with each electronic devices. The EMI is caused by switching operation from the power switches as the FET and the transistor in power conversion devices. In this paper, the hybrid EMI filter that composed with active components and passive components was described. The EMI filter is applied to the 160 watts LED driver experimentally verify the performance. The hybrid EMI filter is compared with non-filter, only passive filter and only active filter. The proposed EMI filter attenuated CM noise more than traditional passive filter.

  • The time sharing type high frequency inverter using serial-parallel resonant to give VVVF function in the inverter used as power source of induction heating at high frequency is presented in this paper. This proposed inverter can reduce distribution of the switching current because of using the current of serial resonant circuit to the input current of the parallel one. The analysis of the proposed circuit is generally described by using the normalized parameters. Also, according to the calculated characteristics value, a method of the circuit design and operating characteristics of the inverter is proposed. In addition, this paper proves the validity of theoretical analysis through Simulation. This proposed inverter show that it can be practically used in future as power source system for induction heating application, DC-DC converter etc.

  • To achieve higher reliability in the modular multilevel converters (MMC) for HVDC transmission systems, the internal condition of the DC capacitors of the submodules (SM) needs to be monitored regularly. For an online estimation of the SM capacitance, a controlled AC current with double the fundamental frequency is injected into the circulating current loop of the MMC, which results in current and voltage ripples in the SM capacitors. The capacitor currents are calculated from the arm currents and their switching states. By processing these AC voltage and current components with digital filters, their capacitances are estimated by a recursive least square (RLS) algorithm. The validity of the proposed scheme has been verified by simulation results for a 300-MW, 300-kV HVDC system. In addition, its feasibility has been verified by experimental results obtained with a reduced-scale prototype. It has been shown that the estimation errors for both the simulation and experimental tests are 1.32% at maximum.

  • The cutoff frequency of the output LC filters of PWM inverters limits the control bandwidth of the converter system while it attenuates voltage ripples that are caused by inverter switching activities. For a selected cutoff frequency of an output LC filter, an infinite number of L-C combinations is possible. This paper analyses the characteristics of output LC filters for PWM inverters terms of the L-C combinations. Practical circuit conditions such as no-loads, full resistive-loads, and inductive-load conditions are considered in the analysis. This paper proposes a LC filter design method for PWM inverters considering both the voltage ynamics and he inverter stack size. An experimental PWM inverter system based on the proposed output LC lter design uideline is built and tested.

  • Recently, small-sized superconducting magnetic storage($\mu$SMES) coils become commercially as an energy storage device for a power conditioner. In design and fabrication of the $\mu$SMES coils, to determine optimum current capacity of the superconducting(SC) conductors is one of the important things. We thus investigated the effect of conductor's current capacity, current density, and stability on the coil's maximum stored energy density in consideration of AC losses and switching device's capacities in a power converter. The results show that the smaller current capacity of the SC conductors is preferred for the $\mu$SMES coils but can increase their induced voltage excessively.

  • This paper describes a current fed high frequency resonant inverter used as the power supply for sealing-wax. The proposed inverter can reduce switching losses, noise and voltage stress at turn-on and turn-off. The analysis of proposed circuit uses normalized parameter and characteristic estimation which is needed in each step before design is generally described according to normalized frequency ($\mu$), coefficient of coupling($\kappa$) and all parameters. The theoretical analysis is proved through experiment and this circuit shows that it can be used practically as the power supply system for sealing wax and DC-DC converter.

  • In this study, a selective inverter operation between a 2-level voltage source converter (VSC) and a 3-level T-type VSC (3LT VSC) is proposed to improve the efficiency of a 3LT VSC. The 3LT VSC topology, except for its neutral-point switches, has similar operations as that of the 2-level VSC. If an operation mode is changed according to efficiency, the efficiency can be improved because efficiencies of each methods are depending on current and MI (Modulation Index). The proposed method calculates the power losses of the two topologies and operates as the having lower losses. To calculate the losses, the switching and conduction losses based on the operation mode of each topology were analyzed. The controller determined the operation mode of the 2- or 3-level VSC based on the power loss calculated during every cycle. The validity of the proposed control scheme was investigated through simulation and experiments. The waveform and average efficiency of each method were compared.

  • A novel general direct duty ratio pulse width modulation strategy is proposed to modulate matrix converters. By using average concept over one switching period, the modulation algorithm and the required equations are derived to synthesize the desired output voltage and to achieve the controlled input power factor. The proposed method use continuous carrier and the predetermined duty ratio signal for directly generating gating signals an thus is named "direct duty ratio PWM(DDPWM)". The feasibility and validity of the proposed strategy are verified by experimental results.
