  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the formation of trihalomethanes(THMs) and to compare the concentration level of THMs of swimming pools water by different disinfection methods such as chlorine, ozone-chlorine, and salt brine electrolysis generator (SBEG). The concentration of chloroform was the highest in the chlorine system, and the SBEG was the highest in the production of bromodichloromethane (BDCM), dibromochloromethane (DBCM) and bromoform. The average concentration of total trihalomethanes (TTHMs) in three disinfection systems were $64.5{\pm}27.4mg/l(SBEG),\;43.8{\pm}22.3mg/l(chlorine)$, and $30.6{\pm}16.1mg/l(ozone-chlorine)$, respectively. In chlorine and ozone-chlorine disinfection system, chloroform concentration was highest, followed by BDCN, then DBCM. In the SBEG, TTHMs was composed of 42% of chloroform, 28.9% of bromoform, 15.1% of BDCM and 14% of DBCM, respectively. The strongest correlation was obtained in the levels of chloroform and TTHMs in chlorine, and ozone-chlorine disinfection systems from both indoor and outdoor swimming pools ($r=0.989{\sim}0.999$, p<0.01). In the SBEG, the levels of BDCM and TTHMs showed a good correlation (r=0.913, p<0.01). In chlorine and ozone-chlorine disinfection systems at indoor swimming pools, pH, TOC and $KMnO_4$ consumption showed strong correlation with chloroform and TTHMs concentrations (p<0.01). In the SBEG, pH and TOC were also strongly correlated with chloroform (p<0.01). pH and TTHMs were correlated as well (p<0.05).

  • Recently, in accordance with increase of the desire for Sports for All(Life Sports), the swimming pools in many areas are under construction. However, since they used many of the reflexible finish-materials on account of the characteristics of hydrophilic space, most of the Indoor Swimming Pools are generating the excessive reverberation. Such reverberation is bringing about the problem that obstructs the oral communication between the coach and the player, and the Clearness of Sound, besides the sport activity. On this viewpoint, on the object of the actually built indoor swimming pool, after the conduct of an optimized acoustics design by the remodeling through a computer simulation, and by carrying out the Psycho-Acoustics Experiment utilizing of Auralization Technique which is able to experience Virtual Sound Field at the stage of designing, then this thesis has attempted to appraise on the acoustic condition after the completion of construction. It is considered that such result of the study could be utilized as the useful data that enables to improve the curtailment effect of construction cost as well as the acoustic capability, by means of the presupposition control on the acoustic problem from the stage of design, for the occasion when the similar indoor swimming pool is planning to build, henceforth.

  • The aim of this study is to find preferred climate condition for outdoor water activity and to estimate future change of preferred season for the activity following the climate change. We chose urban public swimming pools, Hangang park swimming pools, which do not have any attractions except pools and allow people to make decision to visit pools in the morning solely based on the weather conditions as study sites. We identified the preferred climate conditions by analyzing the relationship between number of visitors and temperature, wind chill temperature and discomfort indexes. According to the result, the preferred temperature range was from $23.51^{\circ}C$ to $37.56^{\circ}C$, the wind chill temperature range was from $25.90^{\circ}C$ to $39.43^{\circ}C$, the discomfort index range was from 71.61 to 88.98 and the precipitation range was below 22.8 mm per day. When the temperature range is applied as the preferred season, in present, the length of the season is 127 days, from end of May to end of September. However, if temperature increase resulting from lower emission scenario (RCP 6.0), the season would be extended to 162 days, from early May to middle of October. If temperature is increasing under high emission scenario (RCP 8.5), the length of the season would be extended to 173 days from early May to end of October. In addition, the period of between end of July and early August, which is currently the most preferred season, would not be favored anymore due to high temperature. The result of this study further suggests the necessity of climate change adaptation activities.

  • As people's interest in the increase of individual leisure time and health grows, their interest in sports is also growing day by day to improve their standards of living. In the midst of the social changes, people's awareness of the disabled's sports activities is changing as well. However, the disabled's full access to public sports centers is restricted due to the shortage of facilities, area and available programs in public sports centers including community gymnasiums. In order to solve this problem, rehabilitation sports centers have been built as part of public sports centers, but the number of rehabilitation sports centers is still small. Besides, the disabled find themselves uncomfortable when using rehabilitation sports centers because most of them are outdated and too small in size. To make matters worse, sports centers for the use of the disabled only have a negative effect on the disabled's making inroads into society by hampering them from being a part of social unification. This study made a comparative analysis on the areal state of indoor gyms and swimming pools, which are the main areal factors of rehabilitation sports centers and public sports centers. Based on this analysis, this study aims to propose a sports center use plan for both the disabled and non-disabled. As a result, the total floor area ratios of indoor gyms for the disabled were found to be higher than those of public sports centers. This is because many indoor gyms for the disabled are not well equipped with resting areas, auxiliary or supporting areas. Regarding swimming pools for the disabled, their total floor area ratios and areas were found to be lower than those of public sports centers because, in many cases, these swimming pools are used for the rehabilitation of the disabled in rehabilitation sports centers. For this reason, swimming area for individual leisure activity or hobby is insufficient.

  • Purpose: Children's swimming pools are picking up faster than the other types of swimming pool. Yet, safety law-related studies are still lack. This study is to review legal status of children's swimming pool in Korea and to discuss the related legal issues for safety management of children's swimming pool. Research design, data, and methodology: The study reviewed law and clauses for sport facility management and related legal clauses with chilren's swimming pool management, and sport facility-related articles. Results: Safety management of children's swimming pool should currently follow law for sport and physical education facility management because of no its own legal norm for children's swimming pool. Given this, specific law and clauses for children's pool management need to be legislated to prevent risks for children and to satisfy specific safety factors considering careless behavior of children. Conclusions: Regarding this, the study points out five suggestions. First, law should be established to make notification of safety rules mandatory and this notification should be placed in the pool. This notification would be better effective if it is visualized. Second, according to law, safety 7 rules of children' s swimming pool need to be legistrated and educated for pool managers to obey them. Pool managers could also add their own rules to the 7 rules. Finally, preparation of emergency kits and safety devices need to be mandatory in the pool. Further implications were discussed.

  • Due to the irregular shape and the deviation of stiffness center and gravity center, buildings always suffer from complex surface load and vibration response under wind action. This study is dedicated to analyze the surface wind load and wind-induced response of an irregular building, and to discuss the possibility of top swimming pool as a TLD to diminish wind-induced vibration of the structure. Wind tunnel test was carried out on a hotel with irregular shape to analyze the wind load and structural response under 8 wind incident angles. Then a precise numerical model was established and calibrated through experimental results. The top swimming pool was designed according to the principle of frequency modulation, and equations of motion of the control system were derived theoretically. Finally, the wind induced response of the structure controlled by the pool was calculated numerically. The results show that both of wind loads and wind-induced responses of the structure are significantly different with wind incident angle varies, and the across-wind response is nonnegligible. The top swimming pool has acceptable damping effect, and can be designed as TLD to mitigate wind response.

  • According to a progress in the quality of life and economy, recent years have seen an increase in interest in the cruise travel. However, it is important to provide them the optimum embarkation environment since there are to be many and unspecified persons staying for a long period on the cruise ship. In the architectural design field, a wide range of efforts are being recently made to meet customer's requirements by considering the rapidly changing society, environment, and economic trend. The most representative one of such efforts is the inclusive design concept. This concept means to perform design satisfying all the function, convenience, aesthetic appreciation, and utility, regardless of sex, age, ability, nationality, cultural background or any kinds of disabilities. Regarding this trend, the convenience-oriented design of a cruise ship using the inclusive design concept was performed in this study. To do this, the composition of cabins and swimming pools, and the exterior of the cruise ship were classified into several groups through literature survey. Then, in the point of view of the inclusive design concept, inconvenience matters of passengers about the cabins, swimming pools, and exterior were also extracted from literature survey. Next, basis designs for them were selected among the classified groups in order to solve such inconvenience matters. Finally, the convenience-oriented design of the Emerald Princess Cruise considering the inclusive design concept was performed by applying the basis designs. As a result, we can see that the inclusive design concept can be applied to cruise ship design.

  • This study utilized the Delphi technique to derive results by gathering opinions from experts, analyzing the problems in university survival swimming education, and seeking improvement methods. The conclusions of this study revealed several issues in university survival swimming education. From the perspective of instructors, the lack of expertise and certification in survival swimming was identified as a problem. From a program standpoint, discrepancies between educational content and real-world applications led to decreased practicality. Regarding facilities, the absence of swimming pools within universities was highlighted as a major issue. Proposed solutions included mandatory completion of instructor certification courses to address instructor-related issues. For program improvements, conducting education in environments similar to real-world scenarios was suggested. In terms of facilities, there was a call for expanding swimming facilities within universities. It is anticipated that addressing the identified problems and implementing proposed solutions will lead to more systematic and professional education. Furthermore, it is believed that addressing changeability and hopefulness, and continuously improving based on them, will positively impact the establishment of societal safety consciousness and, ultimately, enhance awareness of water safety.
