A tubular centrifugal fin is designed by using various methods of analysis and design. A preliminary design method based on empirical optimum curves for centrifugal fin is used to determine the geometric parameters for tubular centrifugal fan. And, Quasi-3D streamline curvature duct-flow analysis is used to provide the primary position of streamlines and spanwise distribution of flow angle f3r generation of blade geometry based on S1 surface. Three-dimensional CFD solution then is obtained to optimize the blade design. Constriction of flow path in the region of impeller, backward swept blade, and central cone, which are introduced to improve the design, successfully remove or suppress the vortices downstream of the impeller.
The objective of this research is to design blade planform to reduce high speed impulsive(HSI) noise from a non-lifting helicopter rotor using CFD method and optimization techniques. As for the aero-acoustic analysis, CFD technique for aerodynamic analysis and Kirchhoff's method for the acoustic analysis were used. As for the optimization method, Kriging-based genetic algorithm(GA) model as a high-fidelity optimization method was chosen. Design variables and constraints are determined for arbitrary blade planform. The result shows that the optimized blade planform with high swept-back and taper ratio can reduce HSI noise by suppressing generation of the strong shock wave on blade surface and propagation of the noise to the farfield flow region.
Herein, we discuss the in situ measurement of the electron temperature in the ionosphere/plasmasphere by means of DC Langmuir probes. Major instruments which have been reported are a conventional DC Langmuir probe, whose probe voltage is swept; a pulsed probe, which uses pulsed bias voltage; a rectification probe, which uses sinusoidal signal; and a resonance cone probe, which uses radio wave propagation. The content reviews past observations made with the instruments above. We also discuss technical factors that should be taken into account for reliable measurement, such as problems related to the contamination of electrodes and the satellite surface. Finally, we discuss research topics to be studied in the near future.
In this study, welding phenomena involved in formation of penetrators during high frequency electric resistance welding were investigated. High speed cinematography of the process revealer that a molten bridge between neighboring skelp edges forms at apex point and travels along narrow gap toward to welding point at a speed ranging from 100 to 400 m/min. The bridge while moving along the narrow gap swept away oxide containing molten metal from the gap, providing oxide-free surface for a forge-welding at upsetting stand frequency of the budge formation, travel distance and speed of the bridge were affected by the heat input rate into strip. The travel distance and its standard deviation were found to have a strong relationship with the weld defect density. Based on the observation, a new mechanism of the penetrator formation during HF ERW process is proposed.

The present study is aimed to achieve dynamic visualization from the in-house 3-D stereoscopic PIV to represent quantitative flow information such as time-resolved 3-D velocity distribution, vorticity, turbulent intensity or Reynolds stresses and so on. One of the application of the present study is Leading edge extension(LEX) flow appearing on modern delta wing aircraft. The other is mixing flow in stirring tank used in industry field. LEX in a highly swept shape applied to a delta wing features the modern air-fighters. The LEX vortices generated upon the upper surface of the wing at high angle of attack enhance the lift force of the delta wing by way of increased negative suction pressure over the surfaces. The present method resolves also the complicated flow patterns of two type impellers rotating in stirring vessel. Flow quantities such as three velocity vector components, vorticity and other flow information can be easily visualized via the 3D time-resolved post-processing visualization. And it makes the easy understanding of the unsteady flow characteristics of the typical industrial mixers.
Geotextile containers for restoration of slopes form the interface between the containers during the restored to lost slopes, and therefore the relation displacements are developed including the sliding on the surface. Since, the shear strength on these interfaces is less than that of fill material in the container, the characteristics of shear strength on the interface governs the behavior of the restoration slopes. In general, a lot of natural properties of geotexiles is required to evaluate the safty of the geotextiles, Among the properties, the shear characteristics between geotextiles and soil is a important variable to assess the safety. From the results of full scale direct shear test, the residual shear strength is recommanded to use for design factors since a large deformation possibly occures on the geotextile containers.
Amorphous nickelphthalocyanine(NiPc) thin films were prepared by vacuum evaporation and their electrochromic behavior and voltammograms were examined in the five kinds of aqueous electrolytes. Amorphous NiPc films were prepared on indium-tin-oxide(ITO) glass substrates cooled to-$120^{\circ}C$ by using liquid nitrogen under a vacuum of $2.4 \times 10^{-4}$. The voltammetric and electrochromic measurements were made using a potential galvanostat. In order to confirm the color change, optical vis-transmission spectra of the NiPc films were measured by a spectrophotometer with various electrode potential applied. The NiPc amorphous thin films exhibited most clearly electrochromism in $KNO_3$ aqueous electrolyte. The specimen films underwent 3 color transitions (from blue to yellow-green, then to red violet, then to dark blue), corresponding to the three peaks on the voltammograms in $KNO_3$ aqueous electrolyte. Blue is color of the as-prepared film. When the potential was swept, charge compensation was attained upon oxidation by injection of anions from the electrolyte and upon reduction by expulsion of anions.
Theoretically, the magnetic helicity transport flux through the solar surface into the upper atmosphere can be estimated indefinitely precisely by magnetic field footpoint tracking if the observational resolution is infinitely fine, even with magnetic flux emergence or submergence. In reality, the temporal and spatial resolutions of observations are limited. When magnetic flux emerging or submerging, the footpoint velocity goes to infinity and the normal magnetic field vanishes at the polarity inversion line. A finite observational resolution thus generates a blackout area in helicity flux estimation near the polarity inversion line. It is questioned how much magnetic helicity is underestimated with a footpoint tracking method due to the absence of information in the blackout area. We adopt the analytical models of Gold-Hoyle and Lundquist force-free flux ropes and let them emerging from below the solar surface. The observation and the helicity integration can start at different emerging stages of the flux rope, i.e., the photospheric plane initially cuts the flux rope at different levels. We calculate the magnetic helicity of the flux rope below the photospheric level, which is eventually to emerge, except the helicity hidden in the region to be swept by the blackout area with different widths. Our calculation suggests that the error in the integrated helicity flux estimate is about half of the real value or even larger when small scale magnetic structures emerge into the solar atmosphere.
In this study, the affect of mounting axisymmetrical supersonic inlet to airfoil, which has 65 degree swept angle was numerically investigated. The parameter for this calculation are tree stream Mach number M=2.0 and 2.5, the distance between inlet spike and airfoil lower surface $L_{sw}$/$R_{cowl}$ = 1.21-1.54 and angle of attack to the airfoil 0-4. The mass capture ratio improved 3points in M=2.0 condition and 1points in M=2.5 while the mass capture ratio without airfoil surface was 57% and 71 % for each case. These are the result from increase of density and change of velocity deflection by the shock wave structure formed between inlet and airfoil surface. On the other hand, the distortion of Mach number at cowl lip plane increased by 13% in M=2.0, 3% in M=2.5 condition. The effects of the angle attack on the mass capture ratio is greater than that of the shock wave interaction between inlet and cowl, but the effects to the distortion is smaller in the range of this calculation condition. In the condition of M=2.0 with 4 degrees of angle of attack, inlet distortion of Mach number is mainly caused by the affects of the shock wave interaction between inlet and airfoil surface, while the largest angle of the velocity vector in the radial direction at cowl lip plane is caused by the affect of angle of attack. This large velocity vector made the flow inside the cowl subsonic and caused spillage, which interfere with the boundary layer of airfoil surface.
An application of CSG (Constructive Solid Geometry) modeling technique in Machining Simulation is introduced in this paper. The current CSG model is based on z-buffer CSG Rendering Algorithm. In order to build a CSG model, frame buffers of VGA (Video Graphic Accelerator) should be used in term of color buffer, depth buffer, and stencil buffer. In addition to using CSG model in machine simulation Stock and Cutter Swept Surface (CSS) should be solid. Method to create a solid Cuboid stock and Ball-end mill CSS are included in the present paper. Boolean operations are used to produce the after-cut part, especially the Difference operation between Stock and CSS as the cutter remove materials form stock. Finally, a small program called MaSim which simulates one simple cut using this method was created.
