  • The objective of this study was to evaluate efficiency of methyl-beta-cyclodextrin (MBCD) in the sperm preservation of bull. For this study, the freezing of diluted semen were added with Triladyl containing 20% egg-yolk and/or 0, 1, 5, 10 and 20 mM MBCD before freezing process. Analysis of viability in frozen-thawed sperm was estimated by SYBR14/PI double stain, hypoosmotic swelling test(HOST) and acrosome damage with FITC-PNA, and mitochondria activation with Rhodamin123 by flow-cytometry. The sperm viability was significantly in 0 mM and 5 mM concentrations of MBCD than other groups (p<0.05). However, the HOST was significantly lower at 20 mM concentration of MBCD than other concentrations (p<0.05). In addition, acrosome damage and mitochondria activation rates were significantly lower at 20 mM concentration of MBCD than other groups (p<0.05). In conclusion, the viability of sperm was not significantly different among concentrations of MBCD 0, 5 and 10 mM, but MBCD 20 mM was significantly lower than other groups. In addition, as concentrations of MBCD was high, HOST, acrosome damage and mitochondria activation rates had a negative effect in bull sperm.

  • In this study, fire-retardant chemicals were melt with mixed composition ratios of dibasic ammonium phosphate and each half of boric acid and borax in hot water, in which hammer-milled chips were immersed to increase swelling of waste particleboards. Also, fire-retardant treated particles from sawn lumber chip and recycled particleboard chip were composed in ratio of 70:30 in core layer to improve boards' properties. Retention ratio of fire-retardant chemicals for the particles for face layer was high due to high specific surface area, and that of sawn lumber chips was somewhat higher than that of recycled particleboard chips. The mixture of particles from sawn lumber chips and recycled PB of 70:30 in weight ratio exceeded bending strength of 100 $kgf/cm^2$. It seemed that the relatively greater portions of dibasic ammonium phosphate affected adversely to dimensional stability, however fire-retardants treatment resulted in distinct effect lowering formaldehyde emission such as $E_0$ type(0.5mg/$\ell$ or less) in KS F 3104. In fire-retardancy, the recycled boards with a mixed ratio of dibasic ammonium phosphate to boric acid borax(50:50 mixture) of 70% to 30% in weight satisfied fire-retardancy 3rd grade in KS F 2271, and also this composition from cone calorimeter test met same standard grade figuring total heat release of 4.6MJ/$m^2$.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of addition of ethylene glycol, glycerol and sucrose to TCG (Tris, Citric Acid, Glucose, Egg Yolk) and DMSO Frozen. The extender containing Egg yolk concentration (10%, 20%) affects viability and acrosome morphology of rabbit sperm. Sperm viability was then assessed for the freezing extenders TCGD (Tris + Citricacid + Glucose + DMSO), TCGED (Tris + Citricacid + Glucose + Egg yolk + DMSO), TCGGD (Tris + Citricacid + Glucose + Glycerol + DMSO) and TCGSD Tris + Citricacid + Glucose + Sucrose + DMSO) during thawing at 38℃. for 20 seconds, respectively. TCG + 10% egg yolk (viability: 77.0 ± 0.8, NAI: 73.3 ± 0.9) was significantly (sperm viability and normal acrosome interaction (NAI)) higher than TCG + 20% egg yolk (70.7 ± 1.1, 70.0 ± 0.9) in the sperm normalcy analysis according to the yolk concentration. TCGGD (53.4 ± 0.1, 62.3 ± 0.4), TCGSD (61.3 ± 0.0, 67.1 ± 0.1) sperm viability and normal acrosome interaction (NAI) in frozen spermatozoa are TCGD (46.4 ± 2.8 and 56.3 ± 1. 4) and TCGED (23.0 ± 1.1 and 54.6 ± 1.4) extenders was thawed at 38℃ for 20 seconds. According to the results from each frozen bulking agent, sperm membrane integrity by hypotonic swelling test (HOST) analysis in TCGGD (59.8 ± 0.7), TCGSD (59.3 ± 0.5) was significantly high compared to other experimental groups (p < 0.05). In conclusion, these results suggested that TCGGD and TCGSD extenders enhance survivability of rabbit sperm after frozen-thawing.

  • Authors have studied retrospectively the facial nerve injury after TMJ surgery through the preauricular approach routine. The study material used was 4 patients of all 113 patients who were diagnosed as internal derangement and have been operated from March 1989 to February 1991 in Youngdong severance hospital, and were induced postoperatived facial nerve injury. The patient group who had the postoperative injured facial nerve was recognized degree of injury using the diagnostic method, Electromyography(EMG) and Nerve conduction test(NCT) which are used widely at present and was treated as conservative care and we identified the recovery time as the same method. The results as follows : 1. The meticulous care and precious surgical technique are needed in both operation and postoperation. During the TMJ surgery, the excessive retraction of the flap and frequent use of nerve stimulator and electric surgical knife should be avoided as possible and postoperative hematoma and swelling should be minimized. 2. The 4 patients were experienced with the postoperative facial nerve injury of all 133 patients who had been operated the TMJ surgery through the routine preauricular approach on our hospital. And the incidence of postoperative facial nerve injury happened was about 0.3% and its incidence was relatively low comparing with any other previous reports. 3. EMG and NCT were considered as useful methods which can diagnose the nerve injury objectively and identified the effect of treatment and recovery time. 4. The faical nerve-injured patients who were induced postoperatively after TMJ surgery, were diagnosed as second-degree nere injury through the EMG and NCT. And the patient group was treated well as conservative physical therapy for about 2 to 4 months.

  • Urea formaldehyde resins are widely used in the manufacturing of wood composite and their usage is always combined with release of formaldehyde characterized to be hazardous to health during and after the manufacturing of the products. This study investigates the effectiveness of wood-based adhesive from oil of pyrolysed Triplochiton scleroxylon sawdust for the production of composite board. The wood-derived Pyrolytic Oil (PyO) was blended with Urea Formaldehyde (UF) resin to formed Pyrolytic Oil-Urea Formaldehyde (PyOUF). The obtained PyOUF called Wood-Based Adhesives at four blends and control (UF) viz; 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 2:1, 1:3 were further employed to prepare the composite board and test for their bonding strength by physical (water absorption-WA and thickness swelling-Th.S) and mechanical properties (modulus of elasticity-MOE, modulus of rupture-MOR, and impact bending-IB). Data obtained was analysed using analysis of variance at α 0.05. The result of analysis of variance conducted on physical properties show significant difference (p≤0.05) between the WA values obtained when testing the different blending proportion of PyOUF and likewise between 2 and 24 h of immersion. PyOUF had significant effect (p≤0.05) on Th. S for 24 h but no significant different (p>0.05) for the 2 h period of soaking. The analysis of variance on mechanical properties of the composite board (MOE, MOR, and IB) show significance differences (p≤0.05) between the strength values obtained when testing the different ratios of PyO with UF. PyO content influenced the properties of the boards and it is evident that PyO can be used in the manufacture of composite board.

  • This paper presents the development of new anisotropic conductive adhesives with enhanced thermal conductivity for the wide use of adhesive flip chip technology with improved reliability under high current density condition. The continuing downscaling of structural profiles and increase in inter-connection density in flip chip packaging using ACAs has given rise to reliability problem under high current density. In detail, as the bump size is reduced, the current density through bump is also increased. This increased current density also causes new failure mechanism such as interface degradation due to inter-metallic compound formation and adhesive swelling due to high current stressing, especially in high current density interconnection, in which high junction temperature enhances such failure mechanism. Therefore, it is necessary for the ACA to become thermal transfer medium to improve the lifetime of ACA flip chip joint under high current stressing condition. We developed thermally conductive ACA of 0.63 W/m$\cdot$K thermal conductivity using the formulation incorporating $5 {\mu}m$ Ni and $0.2{\mu}m$ SiC-filled epoxy-bated binder system to achieve acceptable viscosity, curing property, and other thermo-mechanical properties such as low CTE and high modulus. The current carrying capability of ACA flip chip joints was improved up to 6.7 A by use of thermally conductive ACA compared to conventional ACA. Electrical reliability of thermally conductive ACA flip chip joint under current stressing condition was also improved showing stable electrical conductivity of flip chip joints. The high current carrying capability and improved electrical reliability of thermally conductive ACA flip chip joint under current stressing test is mainly due to the effective heat dissipation by thermally conductive adhesive around Au stud bumps/ACA/PCB pads structure.

  • Tuberculosis, a chronic infectious granulomatous disease, is presumed to be quite a rare entity. Because of the development of chemotherapy and the improvement of nutritional conditions, incidence of tuberculosis have reduced. For these reasons, tuberculosis may be overlooked in the differential diagnosis whenever dealing with a submandibular swelling. Diagnosis of tuberculous lymphadenitis consists of historical data, physical findings, laboratory tests and histologic examination. The treatment of choice seems to be surgical excision and long term antituberculosis chemotherapy. Surgery provides a rapid tissue diagnosis, because the histological examination of the excisional biopsy is the most reliable diagnostic test. This is the report of a case of tuberculous cervical lymphadenitis on left submandibular area with no evidence of the involvement of lung.
