  • The study is aimed at exploring concept held by clinical nurses of nursing. The data were collected from 225 nurses conviniently selected from the population of nurses working in Kang Won province. Findings include. 1) Nurse's Qualification. The respondents view that specialized knowledge is more important qualification of the nurse. Than warm personality. Specifically, 92.9% of the respondents indicated specialized knowledge as the most important qualification while only 43.1% indicated warm personality. 2) On Nursing Profession. The respondents view that nursing profession as health service oriented rather than independent profession specifically. This suggests that nursing profession is not consistentic present health care delivery system nor support nurses working independently. 3) On Clients of Nursing Care The respondents include patients, family and the community residents in the category of nursing care. Specifically, 92.0% of the respondents view that patient is the client, while only 67.1% of nursing student and 74.7% of herself. This indicates the lack of the nurse's recognition toward their clients. 4) On the Priority of Nursing care. Most of the respondents view the clients physical psychological respects as important component of nursing care but not the spiritual ones. Specially, 96.0% of the respondents indicated the physical respects, 93% psychological ones, while 64.1% indicated the spiritual ones. This means the lack of comprehensive conception on nursing aimension. 5) On Nursing Care. 91.6% of the respondents indicated that nursing care is the activity decreasing pain or helping to recover illness, while only 66.2% indicated earring out the physicians medical orders. 6) On Purpose of Nursing Care. 89.8% of the respondents indicated preventing illness and than 76.6% of them decreasing 1;ai of clients. On the other hand, maintaining health has the lowest selection at the degree of 13.8%. This means the lack of nurses' recognition for maintaining health as the most important point. 7) On Knowledge Needed in Nursing Care. Most of the respondents view that the knowledge faced with the spot of nursing care is needed. Specially, 81.3% of the respondents indicated simple curing method and 75.1%, 73.3%, 71.6% each indicated child nursing, maternal nursing and controlling for the communicable disease. On the other hand, knowledge w hick has been neglected in the specialized courses of nursing education, that is, thinking line among com-w unity members, overcoming style against between stress and personal relation in each home, and administration, management have a low selection at the depree of 48.9%,41.875 and 41.3%. 8) On Nursing Idea. The highest degree of selection is that they know themselves rightly, (The mean score measuring distribution was 4.205/5) In the lowest degree,3.016/5 is that devotion is the essential element of nursing, 2.860/5 the religious problems that human beings can not settle, such as a fatal ones, 2,810/5 the nursing profession is worth trying in one's life. This means that the peculiarly essential ideas on the professional sense of value. 9) On Nursing Services. The mean score measuring distribution for the nursing services showed that the inserting of machine air way is 2.132/5, the technique and knowledge for surviving heart-lung resuscitating is 2.892/s, and the preventing air pollution 3.021/5. Specially, 41.1% of the respondents indicated the lack of the replied ratio. 10) On Nurses' Qualifications. The respondents were selected five items as the most important qualifications. Specially, 17.4% of the respondents indicated specialized knowledge, 15.3% the nurses' health, 10.6% satisfaction for nursing profession, 9.8% the experience need, 9.2% comprehension and cooperation, while warm personality as nursing qualifications have a tendency of being lighted. 11) On the Priority of Nursing Care The respondents were selected three items as the most important component. Most of the respondents view the client's physical, spiritual: economic points as important components of nursing care. They showed each 36.8%, 27.6%, 13.8% while educational ones showed 1.8%. 12) On Purpose of Nursing Care. The respondents were selected four items as the most important purpose. Specially,29.3% of the respondents indicated curing illness for clients, 21.3% preventing illness for client 17.4% decreasing pain, 15.3% surviving. 13) On the Analysis of Important Nursing Care Ranging from 5 point to 25 point, the nurses' qualification are concentrated at the degree of 95.1%. Ranging from 3 point to 25, the priorities of nursing care are concentrated at the degree of 96.4%. Ranging from 4 point to 16, the purpose of nursing care is concentrated at the degree of 84.0%. 14) The Analysis, of General Characteristics and Facts of Nursing Concept. The correlation between the educational high level and nursing care showed significance. (P < 0.0262). The correction between the educational low level and purpose of nursing care showed significance. (P < 0.002) The correlation between nurses' working yeras and the degree of importance for the purpose of nursing care showed significance (P < 0.0155) Specially, the most affirmative answers were showed from two years to four ones. 15) On Nunes' qualification and its Degree of Importance The correlation between nurses' qualification and its degree of importance showed significance. • From December 1991 to March 1992, 34 anejacuratory patients with spinal cord injury underwent 90 of electric stimulations with Seager NRH model 12. The average patient age was 43.5 years with a range of 23 to 48 years. The level of cord injury was cervical in 7, thoracic in 6, lumbar in 11, lumbosacral in 7 and conus medullaris in 3. The average number of electric stimulation per a patient was 2.65 with a range of 1 to 4. The average voltage and amplitude per a stimulation were 17.72 volts and 309. 89 mAmp with ranges of 5 to 25 volts and 50 to 500 mAmp. The total and motile sperm number were evaluated microscopically and analyzed statistically by paired t-test according to the frequency of electroejaculation, level of cord injury and voiding pattern. The results were obtained as follows. 1. An overall success rate of electroejaculation was 85.3% among 34 patients and 82.2% among 90 electric stimulations. 2. The total and motile sperm number per a stimulation were not correlated the frequency of electric stimulation, level of cord injury and voiding pattern. 3. Complications occured in 10 cases; severe low abdominal pain in 5, hypertension in 2, sweating in 1, headache in 1 and neck stiffness in 1. All the copmlications subsided spontaneously within 5 to 10 minutes after transient interruption of the electric stimulation. In summary, rectal probe electroejaculation is an accepted safe means of procuring sperm from spinal cord injury patients with ejaculatory incompetence. However very poor sperm motility was found and it was not related with the frequency of electroejaculation, level of cord injury and voiding pattern. Further investigation would be needed to conclude and to identify the reasons for impaired sperm motility.

  • Objective : Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by excessive sweating. Some studies suggest that hyperhidrosis is associated with autonomic nervous system dysfunction. Hyperhidrosis is often accompanied by hypersensitivity, tension, irritability, heat flashes, fatigue, etc. This study was designed to evaluate the correlation between Oriental Medicine diagnosis and the autonomic nervous system function in patients with hyperhidrosis using Heart Rate Variability (HRV) analysis. Methods : 23 palmar and plantar hyperhidrosis patients and 10 systemic hyperhidrosis patients were recruited and evaluated by Oriental Medicine diagnostic questionnaire and HRV analysis. The Oriental Medicine diagnostic questionnaire used a three-dimensional diagnosis that classified patients into Cold or Heat Syndrome, Yin or Yang Syndrome, and Deficiency or Excess Syndrome. Measured indices of HRV used the frequency domain analysis(i.e. TP, VLF, LF, HF and LF/HF ratio). Also, measure indices of HRV adjusted for aging effects were evaluated. Results : Cold/Heat Syndrome was not associated with hyperhidrosis prevalence nor the HRV analysis in hyperhidrosis patients. The Yang Syndrome group(78.8%) was more strongly correlated than the Yin Syndrome group(21.2%), and character of Yang was correlated with the adjusted TP and adjusted LF. The LF/HF ratio in the Excess Syndrome group was significantly higher than the LF/HF ratio in the Deficiency Syndrome group. Conclusion : Hyperhidrosis was not associated with the Cold/Heat Syndrome, but was found to be closely associated with the Yang Syndrome. The LF/HF ratio was significantly higher in the Excess Syndrome group than in the Deficiency Syndrome group in hyperhidrosis patients.

  • The need of oriental nursing role is recently increasing. The implication of this trend is enormous not only for the need of independent of independent oriental nursing intervention. Hence, this study was designed to describe the characteristics of oriental nursing activity and identify the meaning of nursing activity in oriental hospital. A total of 24 nurses were selected by convenience sampling from eight units at one oriental hospital. A total of 168 data were collected using minute-by-minute recording during nurse s work shift. The data were analyzed using nova and scheffe method as post-hoc test The results of this study are as follows; 1. the category of nursing activity in oriental hospital 74.4% of nursing activity was the patient-oriented nursing care. The nursing activity included others (18.28%), the function-oriented nursing care (7.07%), and staff-oriented care (0.2%). 29.1 % of the patient-oriented nursing care was the direct care, and 24. 5 % of the patient-oriented nursing care was the indirect care. There was a lack of patient education and the communication patient. 2. Nursing activity in oriental hospital by characteristics 1) Nursing activity by unit For patient-oriented nursing care, there was a statistically significant difference among 8 units. In the critical care unit, the patient-oriented nursing care was mostly performed. For function-oriented nursing care, there was statistically significant difference among 8 units. In the physical therapy unit, the function-oriented nursing care was mostly performed. 2) Nursing activity in oriental hospital For all kinds of nursing activity, there was a statistically significant difference between shifts. In night shift patient-oriented nursing care, function-oriented nursing care, and other kinds of nursing care was mostly performed. Patient-oriented nursing care included indirect care, treatment set management, and the breaktime. In day shift, staff-oriented nursing care was performed. 3) Nursing activity in oriental hospital For all kinds of nursing activity, there was not a statistically significant difference by day. The day has not impact on nursing activity. 3. the meaning of activity in oriental hospital The results of this study show that the patient-oriented care was vital check, input! output check, medication, bedsore prevention, nasogastric feeding, oral care, catheterization care, perinatal care, nursing care associated with acupuncture and moxacautery, observation (fever, sweating), heat and cold application communication with patent and family, and patient room management In conclusion, two issues associated with the findings of the research appeated to be involved in the difficulty of nursing activity in hospital. The first issue was the nursing care in oriental hospital provided by nurses who have a limited understading of the principles of oriental medicine. The second issue was the deficiency of systematic guideling for oriental nursing activity. The findings suggest the need to develop the systematic guideline for oriental nursing activity. The need of continuing education for nurses who work in the oriental hospital, and the need of nursing education including oriental nursing are critical.

  • In this study, the degree of motion sickness displayed according to actions in virtual reality is measured based on the SSQ tool, a measuring tool, and factors and symptoms affecting cyber motion sickness are investigated through comparative analysis. In the first experiment, the operation method experiment, the simple operation method is measured to be highly affected by the Nausea factor. As symptoms of this, nausea, burp and headache symptoms were developed. In the second experiment, the larger the body rotation radius, the higher the motion sickness was measured, and the greater the influence of Nausea factors. Symptoms of this were the symptoms of burping, headaches, and a full head. In the third experiment, the physical mobility experiment, motion sickness was measured highly in the non-action controller. It was measured to be greatly affected by the Nausea factor. Symptoms of this include fever, headache, and a full head. Through this study, we found that the more fixed and simple the body is operated in virtual reality, the more sensitive the user is to motion sickness, and the larger the radius of rotation, the more sensitive it is to motion sickness. This study is meaningful in identifying factors and symptoms that affect motion sickness and VR manipulation, and is expected to be used by developers in the future to recognize the degree and symptoms of motion sickness of users and to develop content.

  • The main purpose of this study is to arrange the diseases, principal medicinal substances and the prescriptions for the Soumin's Sinsooyul-Pyoyul-Byung(少陽人 腎受熱表熱病) by historical examination in the viewpoint of the Constitutional Medicine(四象醫學). In this study, first I collected the original texts of the diseases and priscriptions in Dongyi-Soose-Bowon(東醫壽世保元), and described the development process of the Soumin(少陽人)'s diseases and priscriptions by comparing with the contents in Dongyi-Soose-Bowon(東醫壽世保元). Next, I collected the efficacy of the medicinal substances and priscriptions by the examination of successive literatures referred it, and tried to explain the efficacy of each medicinal substances in the viewpoint of the Constitutional Medicine(四象醫學) by the analysis of successive literatures. As a result, the conclusions could be summarized as follows. 1. The Differentiation of Syndromes(辦證) in the Existing Medicine(旣存醫學) was formed according to the Eight Principal Syndromes(八綱), the Five Elements(五行), the Merdian system(經絡), therefore there were many confusions with the changes of the times. The differentiation of Syndromes(辦證) in the Constitutional Medicine(四象醫學) was formed according to the pathological change of Ascending and Descending Yin Yang(陰陽升降) in the Four Internal Organs(四臟), therefore, there was the consistency in the recognition of diseases. 2. The classification of the Soumin's Pyoyul-Byung(少陽人 表熱病) was divided into Yukuang Disease(鬱狂證) and Mangyang Disease(亡陽證) according to sweating or not. The conception of these diseases was mostly achived in Shanhanlun(優寒論). The treatment of Shanhanlun(優寒論) was alike to that of Dongyi-Soose-Bowon(東醫壽世保元) in a part. 3. Je ma, Lee thinked that the cause of the Soumin's Pyoyul-Byung(少陽人 表熱病) is the breakdown of the balanced equilibrium in ascending and descending Yin Yang(陰陽升降) for a Large Sin and a Small Bi(腎大脾小), and it is treated by warming and ascending Yang(溫補升陽). 4. The medicinal substances composing prescriptions for the Soumin's Pyoyul-Byung(少陰人 表熱病) is characterized with the efficacy of Ascending Yang and supplying Qi(升陽益氣) and regulating the digestive organs with the efficacy of warming it. 5. The medicinal substances composing the precriptions for the Soumin's Pyoyul-Byung(少陰人 表熱病) is divided into four parts with the state of Yang Qi(陽氣) in the disease it used. 6. The purpose of prescriptions for the Soumin's Pyoyul-Byung(少陰人 表熱病) is to strengthen the Soumin(少陰人)'s Yangnan Qi(陽暖之氣). Je ma, Lee kept the principle not to mix with another constitution's medicinal substances in the creation of the priscription.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the analgesic effect of Yang Eui Gongjin-dan (YEGJD), a traditional Korean medicine, on severe pain or numbness, including acute and chronic non-cancer pain. Methods: Records of patients visiting the Department of Traditional Korean Internal Medicine, Stroke and Neurological Disorders Center, from March 2011 to January 2015, were searched. Their chief complaint was severe numbness or pain (NRS≥7). We compared the NRS of pain pre- and post-YEGJD treatment in 34 patients; and analyzed changes in pain severity pre- and post-YEGJD treatment in 17 chronic non-cancer pain patients. We also investigated other accompanying symptoms, such as insomnia, anorexia, dyspepsia, fatigue, coldness, and excessive sweating, related to the deficiency state (虛症) in traditional Korean medicine. Results: The average pain NRS for the 34 patients significantly decreased from 8.04±1.08 to 3.75±2.54 after YEGJD treatment. The average pain NRS score in chronic non-cancer pain patients also significantly declined from 7.91±0.97 to 3.29±2.29. Conclusions: The traditional Korean medicine Yang Eui Gongjin-dan has an analgesic effect and is useful for treating severe pain or numbness. We recommend a randomized controlled trial using objective assessment scales and a large patient sample to further test the effects of Yang Eui Gongjin-dan.

  • Objective : There has been no known report on the pain shock after administering Korean bee-venom therapy. Three accounts of pain shock were observed at the Sangji university affiliated Oriental medicine clinic from July 2001 through September 2001. This thesis will inform clinical progression and cautions on administering Korean bee-venom therapy. Methods: We were able to witness different patterns of pain shock during the treatment of degenerative knee joint, progressive oral paralysis, and A.L.S. In order to reduce heat toxicity of the bee venom, needling points were first massaged with the ice for 10 minutes before injecting $0.1{\sim}0.2cc$ of the bee venom. Points of injection were ST36, LI11, LI4 and others. Pain shock occurred after injecting on inner xi-an, outer xi-an and LI4. The phenomena associated with pain shock was recorded in chronological order and local changes were examined. Results: Through examining 3 patients with the pain shock, we managed to observe clinical progression, duration, and time linked changes on specific regions. We also managed to determine sensitive needling points for the pain shock. Conclution: Following results were obtained from 3 patients with the pain shock caused by Korean bee-venom therapy from July 2001 to September 2001. 1. Either positive or negative responses were shown after the pain shock. For case 1, extreme pain was accompanied with muscular convulsion and tremble, ocular hyperemia, delirium, stiffening of extremities, and hyper ventilation which all suggest positive responses. For case 2 and 3, extreme pain was accompanied with facial sweating, asthenia of extremities, pallor face, dizziness, weak voice, and sleepiness which are the signs of negative responses. 2. The time required to recover to stable state took nearly an hour (including sleeping time) and there was no side effect. 3. Precautions required to prevent the pain shock includes full concentration from the practitioner, accurate point location, precise amount of injection, physiological condition and psychological stability of the patient 4. Coping with the pain shock should be similar with a needle shock, and since extreme pain is accompanied, sufficient psychological rest must be provided. 5. Pain shock occurs because the patient cannot tolerate stimulation on the needling point. Thus, symptoms were similar to the needle shock in addition to excruciating pain. Further investigation and research must be done to have better understanding of an immune response and the pain shock associated with Korean bee-venom therapy.

  • Okbyungpoongsan-Gami (OG) has been used for the treatment of excessive sweating with general weakness and allergic rhinitis recently. Anal therapy is another way of taking Oriental medicine. It is an important pathway but not available in common clinical situation. This experiment was performed in order to study the inhibitory effect of immediate-type allergic reaction of OG by anal therapy. In addition, the experiment was practised by 1 H-NMR spectroscopy to examine molecular structure of OG. The results were obtained as follows : OG concentration-dependently inhibited compound 48/80- induced immediate type systemic allergic reaction with concentrations of 0.01-1.0g/kg by anal administration 1 h before injection of compound 48/80. OG also concentration-dependently inhibited compound 48/80- induced ear swelling response with concentrations of 0.01-1g/kg by anal administration 1h before injection of compound 48/80. OG also inhibited the passive cutaneous anaphylaxis activated by anti-dinitrophenyl (DNP) IgE antibody concentration- dependently at concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 1g/kg. When OG was pretreated at concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 1g/ℓ, the histamine release from the rat peritoneal mast cells induced by compound 48/80 was reduced in a concentration-dependent manner. OG (0.1-1g/ℓ) had a significant inhibitory effect on histamine release from IgE-induced activated mast cells. OG is seen to be a biochemical compound certainly by 1 H-NMR spectroscopy According to above results, anal therapy of OG may be beneficial in the treatment of systemic and local immediate-type allergic reactions by inhibition of histamine release from mast cells.
