  • From a practical perspective, sustainable development requires the optimization of current natural resources and the minimization of derived wastes. A major concern with respect to sustainable infrastructure development is the continued depletion of easily-available natural resources and environmental matters are more serious, the concerned about waste materials which are inevitably produced in the manufacturing of the product is getting worse. These wastes must be handled and properly disposed, and many times, although this waste may be environmentally inert, it has been discarded in landfills. But current disposal methods of these by-products create not only a loss of profit for the power industry, but also environmental concerns the breed negative public opinion. therefore, this study evaluates the ECO artificial aggregate and bricks were designed and tested for the end use of fly ash.

  • Three full-scale instrumented test slabs were constructed and tested using a heavy vehicle simulator (HVS) to evaluate the structural behavior of internally cured concrete (ICC) for use in pavements under Florida condition. Three mix designs selected from a previous laboratory testing program include the standard mixture with 0.40 water-cement ratio, the ICC with 0.32 water-cement ratio, and the ICC mixture with 0.40 water-cement ratio. Concrete samples were prepared and laboratory tests were performed to measure strength, elastic modulus, coefficient of thermal expansion and shrinkage properties. The environmental responses were measured using strain gages, thermocouples, and linear variable differential transformers instrumented in full-scale concrete slabs. A 3-D finite element model was developed and calibrated using strain data measured from the full-scale tests using the HVS. The results indicate that the ICC slabs were less susceptible to the change of environmental conditions and appear to have better potential performance based on the critical stress analysis.

  • The purpose of this study is to create an approach to architectural planning centered on an Biotop-space Factor, with the purpose of applying environmentally friendly architecture to school buildings. For this, the notion of ecological schools is defined, and possible use of the planning standard is studied as a means by which ecological school planning can be carried out. As a result, ecological schools can be viewed as (1) the field of education, (2) the field of logical community and (3) a stronghold of the ecological environment. And The possible creation of a quantified goal and level at Ecological school planning is also reviewed with the Biotop-space Factor.

The type of unification management school classified the elementary and middle unification school, the unifying secondary school, the unifying elementary and secondary school. The result of this study analyze that ideal type is the unifying secondary school Public space of unification management school integrated support and management facilities. Variation and department classroom arc possible common utility. Space layout of unification management-school separate clearly entrance and buildings, Public spaces must be considerate smoothly use that they are located center of buildings.

  • Most of current building materials are made of organic compounds or at least made with chemical treatments. Though easy to use and comparatively pay less, those materials are generally not enviornmentally sound. VOC is one of harmful effects. On contrary, natural materials such as soil are usually eco-friendly, and environmentally sustainable as well if not treated in autoclaves. Acoustica materials made of such environmentally sound and sustainable could be widely used. It is aimed to prove that soil based materials could be effectively used in acoustical fields rather than the other usual materials. Experiments with various types of soil blocks and soil plaster were performed. It is proved that the soil plaster has better apsorption features than cement plaster. Soil blocks have higher absorption cofficients than soil plaster, due to the thickness, and the absorption characteristics can be controlled by the design of the blocks.

  • This study is on the architectural planning and factors for secondary schools. The methods in the approach to the results were settled. A sample of factors that affect architectural scale design were drawn from architectural design direction for a secondary school architectural scale estimation direction. These factors arc broken into primary elements and situational elements. Primary elements include students, teachers, and time. Situational elements include public use percentage, classroom percentage, unit area, coefficient of utilization, etc. The 7 architectural planning criteria to cover changes of various architectural scale design elements are the following; 1) consideration of students selection percentage, 2) consideration of the number of teachers, 3) a variety of possible classrooms, 4) organic operation, 5) efficient time management, 6) consideration of different teaching method depending on subjects, 7) coefficient of utilization with flexibility.

  • A sustainable development in science, innovation, and technology requires a balanced distribution of scientific wealth in sub-country regions. This paper addresses the issue of geographical distribution of scientific wealth and its goal is to offer a framework to describe and measure the share of provinces in national scientific wealth. Our proposed model divides the indicators of scientific wealth into two groups, production and the use of scientific wealth. To evaluate this model, the scientific wealth of Iran was studied using recorded data on IRANDOC databases. Rich, average, and poor provinces were identified and the results showed that 70% of the scientific wealth belongs to 20% of the provinces. The findings can facilitate planning for a sustainable science and technology policy.

  • Throughout the modernization which was dominated by development theory in Korea, land use planning for housing tended to spoil the environment. Numerous studies, however, pointed out the problem of this development-led planning and there was a broader consensus that the past planning was part of the environmental problem of inner city. These observations changed the development-led planning into the environmental friendly development planning. In particular, Seoul Metropolitan Government held the international planning competition to develop 'Sangam' as an environment friendly residential area. With this plan 'Sangam' would be the sustainable residential area with the harmony of nature, human and technology. Furthermore it would be the outset of the long-term plan to develop 'Seoul' as a 'gate-city, an 'information-city' and an 'eco-city'. To do this, it needs especially the planners' and the constructors' constant concerns and efforts as well as the citizen's participation.
