Background: A cancer survivor is defined as anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer, from the time of diagnosis through the rest of their life. The purpose of this study was to examine whether physical functions, health-related outcomes, nutritional status and blood markers in community-dwelling cancer survivors aged 75 years and older are different from those who do not have cancer Materials and Methods: Two hundred seventy-five participants were asked by physicians, nurses, and physical therapists, questions regarding cancer history in a face-to-face interview. Data were collected for demographic information, physical functions, such as handgrip strength, knee extension power, abdominal muscle strength, static standing balance, walking speed and the timed-up-and-go test, health-related outcomes, nutritional status, and blood markers. The measured parameters of survivor diagnosed with cancer were compared with those without a history of cancer. Results: Thirty-seven older adults were previously diagnosed with cancer. Female cancer survivors had lower knee extension power (p<0.05), abdominal muscle strength (p<0.05), walking speed (p<0.05), timed-up-and-go test score (p<0.05), and time to spend on walking per day (p<0.05) than older women without a history of cancer. In men, none of the measured parameters were significantly different between cancer survivors and older men with no history of cancer. Conclusions: The present study shows that partial physical function of women cancer survivors aged 75 years and older differs from that in women with no history of cancer.

A very low complexity QRD-M algorithm based on adaptive search area is proposed for MIMO systems. The conventional QRD-M scheme extends each survivor paths to all constellation symbols at each layer and selects M paths of minimum path metrics. We found that performance will not be degraded even if we adaptively restrict the survivor path extension only to the neighboring points of temporary detection symbol according to the channel condition at each layer. By employing this feature, we propose a new QRD-M algorithm achieving the near MLD performance with a reduced complexity. We employ the channel gain ratio among the layers as a channel condition indicator, which does not require SNR estimation. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme effectively achieves near MLD performance while maintaining the overall average computation complexity much smaller than the conventional QRD-M algorithm.

The M-algorithm for decoding convolutional codes can significantly reduce the complexity of the Viterbi algorithm by tracking a fixed number of survivor paths in each level of the decoding trellis. It is an easily-implementable algorithm suited for real-time processing of high-speed data. The algorithm, however, generates a sequence of catastrophic errors when the correct path is not included in the set of survivor paths. In this paper, the performance of the M-algorithm obtained from using various decoding complexity levels, frame lengths, and code constraint lengths is presented. The performance gain is quantified when the algorithm is used in conjunction with codes of increased constraint length. In particular, it is demonstrated the gain from the increased code free distance overcompensates the loss from the correct path being excluded from the survivors, when the frame length is short to moderate. Using 64 survivor paths, the signal-to-noise ratio gain obtained by increasing the constraint length from K=7 to K=9, 11, 15 is respectively 0.6, 0.75, and 08dB, when the frame of length L=100 has the frame error rate of 0.01%.

Background: The diagnosis and prediction of prognosis are important in patients with sepsis, and presepsin is helpful. In this study, we aimed to examine the usefulness of presepsin in predicting the prognosis of sepsis in Korea. Methods: Patients diagnosed with sepsis according to the sepsis-3 criteria were recruited into the study and classified into surviving and non-surviving groups based on in-hospital mortality. A total of 153 patients (32 and 121 patients with sepsis and septic shock, respectively) were included from July 2019 to August 2020. Results: Among the 153 patients with sepsis, 91 and 62 were in the survivor and non-survivor groups, respectively. Presepsin (p=0.004) and lactate (p=0.003) levels and the sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score (p<0.001) were higher in the non-survivor group. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis revealed poor performances of presepsin and lactate in predicting the prognosis of sepsis (presepsin: area under the curve [AUC]=0.656, p=0.001; lactate: AUC=0.646, p=0.003). The SOFA score showed the best performance, with the highest AUC value (AUC=0.751, p<0.001). The prognostic cutoff point for presepsin was 1,176 pg/mL. Presepsin levels higher than 1,176 pg/mL (odds ratio [OR], 3.352; p<0.001), higher lactate levels (OR, 1.203; p=0.003), and higher SOFA score (OR, 1.249; p<0.001) were risk factors for in-hospital mortality. Conclusion: Presepsin levels were higher in non-survivors than in survivors. Thus, presepsin may be a valuable biomarker in predicting the prognosis of sepsis.
The purpose of this convergence study was to evaluate and to identify predictors of health-related quality of life(HRQoL) of families with cancer survivor(FCS) focusing on the comparison of families with cancer patient(FCP) receiving treatments. The research was conducted with the data for 153 FCS and 115 FCP taken from the 6th wave of the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The independent variables included socio-demographic, health related, psychological and social factors. The data were analyzed by hierarchical multiple regression analysis using SPSS/WIN 18.0. The results showed different patterns of predictors on the HRQoL of FCS and FCP. In FCS, the statistically significant factors were stress(${\beta}=-.192$, p<.05) and exclusion from economic activities(${\beta}=-.191$, p<.05). Therefore, families of cancer patients also need appropriate interventions for each stage of the disease.

PURPOSE: This study examined the effects of an eight weeks twenty meters walk on the cardiorespiratory fitness and strength of the shoulder extensor, hip extensor, and dorsiflexor of stroke survivor outpatients in two tertiary hospitals in Osogbo, Nigeria. METHODS: A purposive sampling technique was used to select 21 registered right or left outpatient hemiplegic stroke survivors in a pre- and post-test experimental research design. The research questions were presented using the descriptive statistics of frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The differences between the mean of the cardio-respiratory indices and the muscle strength were tested by repeated measures analysis of variance followed by Bonferroni post-hoc test for multiple comparisons. RESULTS: No significant differences in heart rate were observed at week 0 compared to week 4. A significant decrease was recorded in the parameter at week 8, compared to week 4. Moreover, there were significant decreases in blood pressure and respiratory rate in week 0, compared to week 4, and in the respiratory rate, compared to week 8. In contrast, significant elevations in VO2 max were observed in week 0, compared to week 4, and in the week 4, compared to week 8. Furthermore, significant elevations in muscular strength were documented when comparisons were made at weeks 0, 4, and 8. CONCLUSION: Eight weeks of twenty meters walk aerobic exercise improve the cardio-respiratory fitness and muscular strength of stroke survivor outpatients.

Existing studies have used a variety of terms related to North Korea's income guarantees, causing some confusion. It can be said that it is a problem that appears only when dealing with the contents of a specific statute in an existing study. To this end, we will look at the laws and regulations related to income security by period and analyze the contents of dictionaries that are also the explanations of the laws and the status of orders and rules. As a result of the analysis, living subsidies are classified into subsidies under the national social insurance system and pension and subsidy under the national social security system. Among them, the pension under the national social security system, which is an income security system for non-workers, includes old age pensions, labor capacity loss pension(general work ability loss pension, accidental work ability loss pension, honored soldiers' work ability loss pension), and survivor pension(general survivor pension, war deads' survivor pension, victims' survivor pension). In particular, it was confirmed that the terminology for social security pension, which has been confusing in previous studies, is a collective jargon for all pensions under the national social security system. This study is significant in that it synthesized the historical transition process of the terminology of income security from the 10th Platform for the National Liberation Society in 1936 to the Socialist Constitution of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in 2013.

This qualitative study aims to understand family members' caregiving experience for middle-aged and elderly breast cancer survivors at early stages. A total of four families of breast cancer survivors were given focus group interviews(FGI), and an additional family was interviewed individually. The thematic analyses of the FGI and individual in-depth interview discussions revealed the following four themes: first, day-to-day feelings like walking on thin ice (entangled emotions with each treatment stage, regret of watching a survivor's pain, fear of recurrence and death, concerns of changes in family relationships, and various feelings experienced as a daughter), second, caregiving has become a mainstay in my life (unfamiliar and unskilled care, losing my life), third, beginning to recover and different experiences between a survivor and a family caregiver (not understanding a survivor's pain from the abyss, forgetting that the survivor is still a cancer patient and that treating him or her casually), and fourth, moving forward (hope that things will be better, taking care of myself to prevent exhaustion). Based on the results of this study, we proposed social welfare services and policy measures to reflect the psychosocial needs of family caregivers of breast cancer survivors and support family caregivers during the care process.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify effectiveness of a BeHaS exercise program in breast cancer survivors. The subjects of breast cancer survivors participating in this research were selected from C National University Hospital. Methods: This study used non equivalent control group non-synchronized design with an experimental group (n=27) and a control group (n=31). The BeHaS exercise program consisted of theme activity, education, group support and exercise. The experimental group participated in session twice a week for ten weeks. Grip strength, perceived stress, cortisol, and self-esteem were measured. Data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 12.0. Results: After the program, the grip strength and self-esteem of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group. The perceived stress of the experimental group was significantly lower than that of the control group. Conclusion: The results of this study confirmed that BeHaS exercise program played a useful role in improving breast cancer survivor's physical and psychological problem.
