  • We introduce Maemi Dual Field Telescope System (MDFTS) which is newly installed at Kyung Hee Astronomical Observatory (KHAO). MDFTS consists of two telescope tubes (40cm and 10cm), whose observing fields are aligned with different field of view, 15' x 11' and 83' x 63' respectively. We present the specification of instruments (telescope, mount, camera, and filter system) and the observation environment of KHAO. We expect that MDFTS can be used for transient survey e.g. Intensive Monitoring Survey of Nearby Galaxies (IMSNG). Based on observations conducted so far, the limiting magnitude of 40cm telescope in B-band is B_lim ~ 16 mag at 5-σ detection with 150 seconds total integration time under dark and clear observing condition. Also the integrated observing software for MDFTS, KAOS40 is now under developing.

  • The IMS (Infrared or Intermediate-wide, Medium-deep Survey) program for the search of z~7 quasars has been running since last year. In order to discover enough number of quasars at z~7, a strategy sufficing both survey area (~150 square deg.) and image depth (23 AB mag in J filter), together with using existing multi-wavelength data is chosen. We have been carrying imaging observations with the UKIRT 4m telescope, now covering ~50 square deg. (including UKIDSS survey area) of J-band data. We then used selection in color-color space to choose high-z quasar candidates having the rest-frame Ly-alpha break, and to exclude contamination from stars and galaxies at low-z. We show quasar candidates of redshift z~7 and z~6, out of 25 square deg. data analyzed, and note implications and future plans.

  • The Spitzer Public Legacy Survey of the UKIDSS Ultra Deep Survey (SpUDS) has been carried out with four IRAC bands and one MIPS band (24um). SpUDS surveys 1 square degree of the UDS field, that has been covered by one of the deepest near IR surveys and by various multiwavelength observations from X-ray to radio (XMM, GALEX, Subaru, SCUBA, VLA). We present a summary of the photometric data including number counts derived at 3.6-24 microns. In conjunction with extensive multiwavelengh data, we are able to show the multiwavelenght color distribution of MIR sources, and how different SED types contribute to the number counts.

천문학 태도에 대한 검사는 제일릭 등(Zeilik et at., 1999)이 개발한 천문학태도조사지(the Survey of Attitudes Towards Astronomy, SATA)를 그대로 번역하여 사용하였다.

  • Galaxy clusters are the largest structures in the universe located at the top of the cosmological hierarchical model, so the evolution of the universe can be understood by studying clusters of galaxies. Therefore, finding a larger number of galaxy clusters plays an important role in exploring how the universe evolves. A large number of catalogs for galaxy clusters in the northern sky have been published; however, there are few catalogs in the southern sky due to the lack of wide sky survey data. KMTNet Synoptic Survey of Southern Sky(KS4) project, which observes a wide area of the southern sky about 7000 deg2 with KMTNet telescopes for two years, is in progress under the SNU Astronomy Research Center. We use the KS4 multi-wavelength optical data and measure photometric redshifts of galaxies for finding galaxy clusters at redshift z<1. Currently, the KS4 project has observed approximately 33% of the target region, and a pipeline that measures photometric redshifts of galaxies has been created. When the project is completed, we expect to find more than a hundred thousand galaxy clusters, and this will improve the study of galaxy clusters in the southern sky.
