  • This research suggests a monitoring method to support QoS of mobile multimedia services effectively based on information gathering. It means a method in which a subscriber's terminal collects information about its current condition and its surrounding base stations, and a base station, through the data collected by monitoring inner or adjacent base station, shares related data and converges, controlling QoS on its own. In other words, as context information of mobile terminal and base station changes, set-up of related functions and QoS mapping is adapted; each function fits into the change, exchanges the process of reorganization, and interacts; these actions go toward to satisfy service continuity.

  • The bearing mechanism of tunnel-type anchorage (TTA) for suspension bridges is studied. Model tests are conducted using different shapes of plug bodies, which are circular column shape and circular truncated cone shape. The results show that the plug body of the latter shape possesses much larger bearing capacity, namely 4.48 times at elastic deformation stage and 4.54 times at failure stage compared to the former shape. Numerical simulation is then conducted to understand the mechanical and structural responses of plug body and surrounding rock mass. The mechanical parameters of the surrounding rock mass are firstly back-analyzed based on the monitoring data. The calculation laws of deformation and equivalent plastic strain show that the numerical simulation results are rational and provide subsequent mechanism analysis with an established basis. Afterwards, the bearing mechanism of TTA is studied. It is concluded that the plug body of circular truncated cone shape is able to take advantage of the material strength of the surrounding rock mass, which greatly enhances its bearing capacity. The ultimate bearing capacity of TTA, therefore, is concluded to be determined by the material strength of surrounding rock mass. Finally, recommendations for TTA design are proposed and discussed.

  • Experimental blast studies were carried out in a limestone quarry to study the effects of blasting on structures. To have an in-depth understanding of the possible relation between parameters like vibrations, frequency and scale distance and ten trial blast were conducted. 29 monitoring stations were located in such a pattern to give a true representation of blast induced vibrations for the entire mining in this area. The vibrations were monitored in the vicinity of structures surrounding the quarry in the direction towards the village, road, railway line, office building, etc. Scale distances were determined to identify the maximum charge permissible to cause damage to structures.

  • This study was intended to identify the applicability of energy harvesting technologies for powering a wireless health monitoring sensor system of railroad vehicle. As measuring surrounding energy under the normal operation environment, it is possible to predict amount of the applicable energy. The results of energy prediction represents the feasibility of power sources for wireless sensor systems through energy harvesting technologies under the circumstance in which the thermal energy and vibration energy are generated.

  • The wireless sensor network consists of a number of sensor nodes which have physical constraints. Each sensor node senses surrounding environments and sends the sensed information to Sink. The inherent vulnerability in security of the sensor nodes has promoted the needs for the lightweight security protocol. In this paper, we propose a non-hierarchical sensor network and a security protocol that is suitable for monitoring the man-made objects such as bridges. Furthermore, we present the efficient way of setting the routing path by storing IDs, MAC(message authentication code) and the location information of the nodes, and taking advantage of the two node states, Sleep and Awake. This also will result in the reduced energy consuming rate.

  • Therapeutic montitoring of drugs is a well established clinical 1001. However, the state of art is somewhat less advanced for psychotrpoic agents than it is for other classes of drugs, for several reasons. Most psychotropics have large volumes of distribution and achieve relatively low plasma concentrations following therapeutic doses. Many have one or more active metabolites. As a consequene, the analytical methodologies are often complex and not always reliable; well-controlled clinical studies are difficult to perform; and therapeutic ranges have been difficult to establish. Despite these limitations, prudent and selective monitoring of serum drug concentrations, particularly of the tricyclic antidepressants can be helpful in clinical management. This paper presents an overview of clinical and mothodological issues surrounding the utility of blood level measurement.

  • Molecular imaging strives to visualize processes in living subjects at the molecular level. Monitoring biochemical processes at this level will allow us to directly track biological processes and signaling events that lead to pathophysiological abnormalities, and help make personalized medicine a reality by allowing evaluation of therapeutic efficacies on an individual basis. Although most molecular imaging techniques emerged from the field of oncology, they have now gradually gained acceptance by the cardiovascular community. Hence, the availability of dedicated high-resolution small animal imaging systems and specific targeting imaging probes is now enhancing our understanding of cardiovascular diseases and expediting the development of newer therapies. Examples include imaging approaches to evaluate and track the progress of recent genetic and cellular therapies for treatment of myocardial ischemia. Other areas include in vivo monitoring of such key molecular processes as angiogenesis and apoptosis, Cardiovascular molecular imaging is already an important research tool in preclinical experiments. The challenge that lies ahead is to implement these techniques into the clinics so that they may help fulfill the promise of molecular therapies and personalized medicine, as well as to resolve disappointments and controversies surrounding the field.

  • The ubiquitous sensor network technique is widely applied to variety of information fields such as home automations, logistics, traffic controls, public administrations, health and environment monitoring and etc. It is particularly useful in the areas where energy consumption is minimal and where continuous monitoring of the surrounding environments, which generates streams of data, are required. In this study, we have designed and implemented a living environment automatic control system which collects the streams of temperature, humidity, light and noise data of a simulated house setting in real-time fashion, then controls the home environment based on the collected data according to the users favorites. In order to differentiate the proposed system from the currently existing similar system, we have demonstrated not only the feasibility of collecting data using sensor network in the controlled environment but also the ability to control the various household equipments through wireless communications.

  • In this study, a Web server was constructed using LabVIEW's DataSocket, which makes possible acquisition, analysis, and saving in real time. The output value of the optical current sensor at the web server PC was measured and the output value was displayed using the Web browser of the client PC. DataSocket by LabVIEW makes the construction of a Web server easier than other languages and is compatible with other application programs. An optical current sensor was composed using a 1310 [nm] laser diode, and 9/125 [${\mu}m$] standard single mode optical fiber and was created to be a close type sensor. Data measurement using Web servers has the advantage of monitoring electric power systems at a great distance and can fuse IT technology and electric power systems. Also, this measurement uses inexpensive mounting and programming when compared to existing measurement equipment allowing the construction of a measurement system in any situation or surrounding.

  • Participatory sensing applications rely on recruiting appropriate participants to share their surrounding conditions with others, and have been widely used in many areas like environmental monitoring, health care, and traffic congestion monitoring, etc. In such applications, how to ensure the privacy of a participant is important, since incentive mechanisms are used to maintain their enthusiasm for sustainable participation by offering certain amount of reward. In this paper, we propose a pseudonym-based privacy protection scheme, that takes both privacy protection and user incentives into consideration. The proposed scheme uses the pseudonym mechanism and one-way hash function to achieve user incentives, while protecting their identity. We also show extensive analysis of the proposed scheme to demonstrate that it can meet the security and performance the requirement of a participatory sensing application.
