Surface Treatment of Automotive Cast Parts of Magnesium Alloy

  • The surface treatments. Chrome/Manganese and Modified Chrome Pickle, that are treated to improve the anti-corrosion property which is needed to increased the probability of prototype product enabled the sand cast Magnesium test specimens to have better corrosion resistance than non-treated one. Sand cast Magnesium specimens which was treated only with chemical conversion coating had same corrosion resistance with the Steel specimens plated by Zinc, and the another one that had the finishing treatment(painting) worked on the chemical surface treatment had the corrosion resistance property to meet to FPO-3 requirement. We also investigated the multiple finishing system(chemical surface treatment + 3 coating) to test the severe condition that magnesium should to endure.

Clinical Availability of Unstable Support Surface During Bridge Exercise for Training Core muscles

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of change in the unstable support surface location during bridge exercise on the muscle activity of erector spinae and gluteus maximus. Research design, data and methodology: 12 healthy participants aged 23.32 ±1.02 were measured muscle activities of erector spinae and gluteus maximus during bridge exercise and compared between the exercise conditions; unstable support surface located on upper back and feet during bridge exercise. Paired t-test was performed to identify whether there was a significant difference in the muscle activities between the exercise conditions. Results: As a result, even though higher levels of the averaged muscle activities of both erector spinae and gluteus maximus during exercise in unstable support surface located on feet than upper back were observed, no significant differences were found. Conclusions: The change of unstable support surface location during bridge exercise for low back pain rehabilitation would be more appropriate to be used to increase levels of tension of muscle activities and train fine motor control rather than to strengthening muscle strength.

슬라이딩 모드를 이용한 DC 모터 제어에 관한 연구 (A Study on DC Motor Control Using Sliding Mode Control)

  • DC motor has been widely used in industrial applications, because the performance is excellent on the speed and position system. However, when a system has parameter uncertainty, it is very difficult to guarantee its performance. Sliding mode control is robust for parameter uncertainty. However conventional sliding mode control can not have the properties of PID controller because its sliding surface has lower order dynamics than the original system. In this paper the sliding surface design method is proposed by using virtual state for DC motor speed control. Its design is based on the augmented system whose dynamics have one higher order than that of the original system. As a result, in spite of the parameter uncertainty, the proposed sliding surface can have the same dynamic of nominal system controlled by PID controller. And the reaching phase is removed by setting an initial state which makes the initial sliding surface equal to zero.

회전 윤곽 상자를 이용한 표면 검사 알고리즘 (Surface Inspection Algorighm using Oriented Bounding Box)

  • DC motor shafts have several defects such as double cut, deep scratch on surface, and defects in diameter and length. The deep scratches are due to collision among the other shafts. So the scratches are long and thin but their orientations are random. If the smallest enclosing box, i.e. oriented bounding box for a detective point group is found, then the size of the corresponding defect can be modeled as its diagonal length. This paper proposes an suface inspection algorithm for the DC motor shaft using the oriented bounding box. To evaluate the proposed algorithm, a test bed is made with a line scan CCD camera (4096 pixels/line) and two rollers mechanism to rotate the shaft. The experimental result on a pre-processed image with contrast streching algorithm, shows that the proposed algorithm sucessfully finds 150 surface defects and its computation time (0.291 msec) is enough fast for the requirement (4 seconds).

  • In this paper, disk-type ultrasonic motor using a combination of radial and bending vibration modes is newly designed and fabricated. The characteristics of the test motor are also measured. By means of travelingelastic wave induced at the surface of circumference of the elastic disk, a steel bar in contact with the surface of circumference of elastic disk bonded onto the piezoelectric ceramic disks is driven inboth directions by changing the sine and cosine voltage inputs. The stator of the motor is composed of two sheets of piezoelectric ceramic disk to bond onto both surfaces of a elastic disk, respectively. As the results, the diameter of elastic body is increased, the resonant frequency is decreased. The resonant frequency of the stator is about 92 kHz, which is composed with piezoelectric ceramic disks of 28 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness, and an elastic body of 32 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness. A driving voltage of 20 Vpp produces 200 rpm with a torque of 1Nm and an efficiency of about 10 %.

  • We consider one of robust controller, fuzzy-sliding mode controller dealing with model uncertainty, simplified representation of nonlinear system, changed parameters of plant. We propose fuzzy-sliding mode algorithm which provides control input that has system states approaching the choosed sliding surface. This fuzzy controller has a rule base to get initial states converged on sliding surface. This algorithm Is applied to a transfer function of DC motor to be modeled simply and do position control of DC motor due to system parameters. We compare fuzzy-sliding mode controller to both sliding mode controller and fuzzy controller to identify roust control.

  • Shrink fitting is often used to replace conventional mechanical fasteners and fastening methods. Localized heating of the mating surface provides temporary expansion and allows slip fit assembly. The resulting interference fit exhibits exceptional strength without surface deformation at ambient temperatures. We studied an analysing method to find out a deformation of motor axis with shrink fitting of thermal expansion.

  • It is very important to diminish noise source of electric motor systems that are used for home appliance area. We have studied on the noise reduction of BLDC motor, mainly focusing on reducing noise source from cogging torque. This noise source causes resonance of fan & motor systems. This study showed that the higher harmonic component of the cogging torque was the main factor for noise generation. Therefor, to reduce noise of bldc motor for refrigerator, this study suggested peanut shaped magnet which surface flux has similar sinusoidal wave form.

  • A brushless DC motor has the high quality of torque output and silence, has been more widely used in industrial area. As the driver and controller of BLDC motor have been more complicated and precise, simulation method has been much used in motor design. And the output characteristics of BLDC motor is determined by the waveform of BACK-KMF in instinct. But because the conventional model of BLDC motor is obtained by approximation of real nonlinear waveform to ideal trapezoidal waveform, the error is occurred in simulation result. Thus in this paper, for the correction of this error in simulation, the model of real nonlinear waveform considered is proposed, and the simulation result is obtained in case of three-phase, four-poles Y-connected, surface mounted permanent magnet BLDC motor.

  • Several techniques have been adopted in motor design of interior permanent magnet (IPM) type brushless DC (BLDC) motor to minimize cogging torque. IPM type motor has better ability in the centralization of flux than surface-mounted permanent magnet (SPM) type BLDC motor. So, the structure of IPM type BLDC motor has high saliency ratios that produce additional torque. However, this structure has a significant cogging torque that generates both vibration and noise. This paper describes new technique of the flux barriers design for reduction of cogging torque of IPM type BLDC motor. To reduce the cogging torque, flux barriers are applied in the rotor. Changing the number of barrier, the cogging torque is analyzed by finite clement method(FEM).
