  • In this paper, a quality improvement scheme is proposed for magnified image using the various curved surface characteristics of image. After testing horizontal and vertical directional surface characteristics of source image, interpolation value is calculated to have the surface characteristics such as simple convex surface, simple concave surface, and compound surface. The calculated interpolation value become the value of the interpolated pixel of magnified image. The calculated interpolation value is closer to the pixel value of real image. So, the quality of the magnified image is improved. The PSNR value of the magnified image using the proposed scheme is larger than the PSNR values of the magnified image using the existing techniques.

  • In this paper, we propose a very efficient reversible data hiding algorithm using spatial locality and the surface characteristics of image. Spacial locality and a variety of surface characteristics are present in natural images. So, it is possible to precisely predict the pixel value using the locality and surface characteristics of image. Therefore, the frequency is increased significantly at the peak point of the difference histogram using the precisely predicted pixel values. Thus, it is possible to increase the amount of data to be embedded in image using the spatial locality and surface characteristics of image. By using the proposed reversible data hiding algorithm, visually high quality stego-image can be generated, the embedded data and the original cover image can be extracted without distortion from the stego-image, and the embedding data are much greater than that of the previous algorithm. The experimental results show the superiority of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose an image watermarking technique that effectively hides confidential data in the LSB of image pixels by utilizing the characteristics of the image. In the proposed technique, the image is precisely divided into boundary surface and normal region other than the boundary surface and performs different processing. The boundary surface existing in the image is created by meeting different regions and contains important information of the image. One bit of confidential data is concealed in the LSB of the pixel at the boundary surface to preserve the characteristics of the boundary surface. In normal region other than the boundary surface, the pixel values are similar, and the change with the adjacent pixel values is smooth. Based on this property, even if the 2 bits of confidential data are hidden in the lower 2 bits of the pixel in the normal region, the difference cannot be visually distinguished. When confidential data is concealed in an image as described above, the amount of confidential data concealed in an image can be increased while maintaining excellent image quality. Concealing confidential data by applying the proposed method increases the amount of confidential data concealed by up to 84.6% compared to the existing method. The proposed technique can be effectively used for commercial image watermarking that hides copyright information.

  • In this paper, we proposed an effective quality improvement scheme of magnified image using the surface characteristics in image. If the surface in image is estimated as simple convex surface or simple concave surface, the interpolated value can be calculated to have the surface characteristics by using the other method in the proposed scheme. The calculated value becomes the interpolated pixel value inmagnified image. So, themagnified image reflects the surface characteristics of the real image. If the surface is not estimated as simple convex surface or simple concave surface, the interpolated value is calculated more accurately than bilinear interpolation by using the method of the proposed scheme. The PSNR values of the magnified images using the proposed schemes are greater than those of the magnified images using the previous interpolation schemes.

  • In natural images, there is generally locality, and the values of adjacent pixels are similar. It is possible to estimate the curved surface characteristics of the original image using adjacent pixels having similar pixel values. In this paper, after precisely estimating the characteristics of the curved surface existing in the image, interpolation values are obtained so as to faithfully reflect the estimated characteristics of the curved surface, We propose an effective image enlarging method that generates an enlarged image using the obtained interpolation values. The image enlarged by the proposed method maintains the curved surface characteristics of the original image, and thus the image quality of the enlarged image is improved. Experimental results show that the image quality of the proposed method is superior to that of the conventional techniques.

  • This paper describes an image processing method for inspecting the surface outlook of high speed moving plates. Noise free image and a new real time processing methods are required to inspect the surface outlook of the high speed moving plates in real time. It is difficult to get a noise free image due to a signal noise, a light noise and background image in typical industrial factory. Thus, pre-processing techniques should be required to get a good image and produce so many time steps to proceed the image data. The objective of this research is to get image on the surface of the moving plates with a speed of 1m/sec and to detect some defaults on the surface image. So, the pre-processing techniques ...

  • Purpose: In this study, we focused on the image processing method to determine the external quality of Fuji apples by identifying surface defects such as scabs and bruises. Method: A CCD camera was used to capture filter images with 24 different wavelengths ranging between 530 nm and 1050 nm. Image subtraction and division operations were performed to distinguish the defect area from the normal areas including calyx, stem, and glaring on the apple surface image. All threshold values of the image were examined to reveal the defect area of pretreated filter images. Results: The developed operation methods were [image (720 nm) - image (900 nm)]/image (700 nm) for bruise detection and [image (740 nm) - image (900 nm)]/image (590 nm) for scab detection, which revealed 81% and 90% recognition ratios, respectively. Conclusions: Our results showed several optimal wavelengths and image processing methods to detect Fuji apple surface defects such as bruises and scabs.

  • The free surface effects on the aerodynamic performance of 2-D wings are investigated based on the potential flow approximation. The wing is represented b source and vortex distributions on the wing surface. The steady free surface effect is taken into account by source distribution on the free surface and the velocity potentials of air and water flows are obtained. Using three different techniques, namely, positive image method, inverse image method and source distribution method, numerical results are obtained for wave elevation, pressure distribution and lift coefficient with various foil sections. The wave elevation calculated by the inverse image method is shown to be very small even at higher speeds so that the free surface effect on the performance of wings is regraded negligible. However, the wave elevations by the positive image method and source distribution method are relatively high at higher speeds and accordingly the free surface effects on wings can not be neglected.

  • In this paper, we present a new morphological texture spectrum approach to obtain a surface orientation using the variation of texture image caused by projective distortions. Under the assumption that the surface of texture image is smooth continuous, and specially plane or sphere, we apply the mathematical morphology and texture spectrum in order to compute the 3-D surface orientation. If the surface of texture image is plane, the surface orientation can be obtained through a simple procedure. If the surface of texture image is sphere, we find the centroids of texels, and may compute several major axes, their slopes, and vanishing points. Using the texture spectrum between the intersections of the vanishing points and the size of elements in each texels, we can find the surface orientation of texels on the sphere.

  • We can see that two images of reflection are observed on the surface of a ophthalmic lens. These are the image reflected from front surface and back surface of lens, respectively. The reflective image shows to be affect by surface refractive power of front and back surface of lens. Total refractive power of lens is calculated by refractive power of front and back surface of lens. Accordingly, the ratio of image on the lens surface is able to measure refractive power of ophthalmic lens without helping of the lensmeter. The ratio of two reflective image measured on the lens surface is compared with the calculated ratio by the power measurement.
