Based on the monthly weather report of Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) and daily sea surface temperature (SST) data from National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDl) (1991-2001), mean heat fluxes were estimated at the Gunsan harbor Net heat flux was transported from the air to the sea surface during March to early September, and it amounts to $125\;Wm^{-2}$ in average daily during May to June. During the middle of September to February, the transfer of net heat flux was conversed from the sea surface to the air with $-125\;Wm^{-2}$ in mininum value in October. Short wave radiation was ranged from 50 to $248\;Wm^{-2}$ showing maxima in April to June. Long wave radiation was ranged from 25 to $92\;Wm^{-2}$ with mininum value in June to July. Sensible heat flux denoting negative values in April to August was ranged from -30 to $72\;Wm^{-2}.$ Latent heat flux was ranged from 15 to $82\;Wm^{-2}$ with maxima in August to September. The phase of heat exchange was changed from cooling to heating in the end of February, and from heating to cooling In the beginning of September. The advective term of heat flux showed minima in April to June and maxima in November. The ratio of temperature variations was 1.37 in the sea surface process and the horizontal process by advection. This indicates that the main factor in variation of temperature at Gunsan harbor is the heat exchange process through the sea surface from the air.
The demand on quantitative measurement of the heat flux is motivated in making higher-quality steel product through a water quenching process of plate mill. To improve a spatial degree of heat flux measurement, the multi-point heat flux measurement was carried out by a unique experimental technique that has a combination of the existing single-point heat flux gauge. The corresponding heat flux can be easily determined by Fourier's law in a conventional way. The multi-point heat flux gauge developed in this study can be applicable to measure the surface heat flux, the surface heat transfer coefficient during a water quenching applications of steelmaking process. The results exhibit different heat transfer regimes; such as single-phase forced convection, nucleate boiling, and film boiling, that are occurred in close proximity on the multi-point heat flux gauge quenched by water impinging jet.

An experimental study of heat transfer from hot flat surface to water sprays was conducted in high temperature region. Heat transfer measurements for hot flat surface were made by 4 sheathed C-A thermocouples. Droplets volume flux were also measured-independently at a position in spray field. The test conditions included variations in droplets volume flux, subcooling of cooling water of $1.565\times10^{-3} to 14.089\times10^{-3}m^3/m^2s and 80 to $20^{\circ}C$ respectively. The effects of inclination angle on heat transfer were investigated and changes in inclination angle of hot flat surface affected heat transfer coefficients of high temperature region.

A numerical study on natural convection induced by free surface heat flux and cold left and hot right walls in glass melting furnaces has been performed. A function of heat flux derived from the combustion environments of actual glass melting furnace is applied to thermal boundary condition at free surface. Fundamentally there exist two flow cells in cavity (left counterclockwise one and right clockwise one). The effects of heat flux and Rayleigh number are investigated through two-dimensional steady-state assumption. The convection strength of two flow cell located in left region continuously increases. In the mean time the strength of flow cell in right region increases and then decreases. Critical Rayleigh number in which two flow cells take place above and below show linear dependence on the free surface heat flux. To maintain the traditional flow pattern (left and right flow cells) in glass melting furnace, Rayleigh number is recommended to be below 10$^{5}$ .
In mid-August 2002, under clear summer pressure patterns, we carried out an intensive meteorological observation to examine the warming effects due to artificial constructions in a large housing complex. We set an automatic weather system(AWS) at two places in a bare soil surface within a limited development district and an asphalt surface within a large apartment residence area, respectively. As a result of observation, it became clear that the difference of the surface air(ground) temperature between the bare soil surface and its peripheral asphalt area reached about 4$^{\circ}C$(13$^{\circ}C$) at the maximum from diurnal variation of surface temperatures on AWS data. Through the heat balance analysis using measurement data, it became clear that the thermal conditions at two places are dependent on the properties of surface material. The latent heat flux over the bare soil surface reached to about 300 W/㎡, which is more than a half of net radiation during the daytime. On the other hand, it was nearly zero over the asphalt surface. Hence, the sensible heat flux over the asphalt surface was far more than that of the bare soil surface. The sensible heat flux over the asphalt surface showed about 20∼30 W/㎡ during the night. It was released from asphalt surface which have far more heat capacity than that of bare soil surface.
Traditionally, it is measured by using basin or empirical formula with meteorology data, while it does not represent the evaportransporation over a regional area. With the advent of improved remote sensing technology, it becomes feasible to assess the ET over a regional scale. Firstly, the IMAGINE ATCOR atmospheric module is used to preprocess for the MODIS imagery. Then MODIS satellite images which have been corrected by radiation and geometry in conjunction with the in-situ surface meteorological measurement are used to estimate the surface heat fluxes such as soil heat flux, sensible heat flux, and latent heat flux. In addition, the correlation coefficient between the derived latent heat and the in-situ measurement is found to be over 0.76. In the future, we will continue to monitor the surface heat fluxes of paddy rice field in Chiayi area.
An experimental study was carried out to identify the various regimes of natural convective boiling and to determine the Critical Heat Flux(CHF) on a 70mm square surface which is inclined at $180^{\circ}$(upward), $90^{\circ}, \;45^{\circ}$. The heater block made of copper with cartridge heaters is submerged in a water tank with windows for visualization. As the heat flux increases from $100kW/m^2$ to $1.1MW/m^2$, the heat transfer regime migrates from the nucleate boiling to film boiling and results in a rapid heat up of the heater block. An explosive vapor generation on the heated surface, whose size and frequency are characterized by the heat flux, is visualized by using a digital camcorder with $512{\times}512$ pixel size at 30fps.

In this paper, experiments investigating the high-temperature region heat transfer coefficients for the spray cooling of hot flat plates were performed by down spray water using flat spray nozzles. The heat transfer surface is made of copper and is 100mm in length and 40mm in width and 15mm in thickness. The experimental condition of spray are as follows: temperatures of the water droplets are T=20~$80^{\circ}C$ and droplets volume fluxes are D=0.001565~0.010438$m^3/m^2s$. Next, correlating equations for the heat transfer characteristics of spray cooling in the high temperature region are developed from the effects of droplets volume flux and the surface temperature of heat transfer plate.

Convective nucleate boiling and burnout heat flux have been studied on a flat, downward facing, constant heat flux surface cooled by an impinging water jet. The tests are progressed from low, nonboiling power to high, burnout heat flux power. The jet velocity and the subcooling do not affect the nucleate boiling curve of $q{\sim}{\Delta}T_{sat}$ diagram, but the supplementary water height affects the curve. For the case of dimensionless height of supplementary water S/D=1, the boiling curve shift to the heigher heat flux than that of S/D=0 or S/D=2. Burnout heat flux is enhanced with increasing jet velocity and subcooling. Also. by using the supplementary water(S/D=1 or S/D=2), burnout heat flux is larger than that of the simple water jet(S/D=0). A generalized correlation for the burnout heat flux data in the present boiling system with an impinging water jet is successfully evolved.
Critical heat flux refers to the sudden decrease in boiling heat transfer coefficient between a heated surface and fluid, which occurs when the phase of the fluid near the heated surface changes from liquid to vapor. For this reason, critical heat flux is an important factor for determining the maximum limit and safety of a boiling heat transfer. Recently, it is reported that the nanofluid is used as a working fluid for the critical heat flux enhancement. However, it could be occurred nano-flouling phenomena on the heat transfer surface due to nanoparticles deposition, when the nanofluid is applied in a heat transfer system. In this study, we experimentally carried out the effects of the nano-fouling phenomena in oxidized multi-wall carbon nanotube and oxidized graphene nanofluid systems. It was found that the boiling heat flux decreased by hourly 0.04 and $0.03kW/m^2$, also the boiling heat transfer coefficient decreased by hourly 11.56 and $10.72W/m^2{\cdot}K$, respectively, in the thermal fluid system using oxidized multi-wall carbon nanotube or oxidized graphene nanofluid.
