The surface treatment of C-type isotropic pitch-based carbon fiber was carried out by anodic oxidation in 5 wt% $NH_4NO_3$ electrolyte. The changes of fiber surface and carbon fiber/ABS resin composites were characterized by SEM, XPS and mechanical properties test. The oxygen functional groups on the surface, such as hydroxyl (-C-OH), carboxyl (-COOH) groups etc., increased after oxidation. Tensile strength, flexural strength and modulus of carbon fiber/ABS composites were also enhanced. However, the impact strength decreased with the improvement of the surface adhesion between CF and matrix.
In this work, the effect of anodic oxidation treatment on Cr(VI) ion adsorption behaviors of activated carbon fibers (ACFs) was investigated. The aqueous solutions of 10 wt% $H_3PO_4$ and $NH_4OH$ were used for acidic and basic electrolytes, respectively. Surface characteristics and textural properties of ACFs were determined by XPS and $N_2$ adsorption at 77 K. The heavy metal adsorption of ACFs was conducted by ICP. As a result, the adsorption amount of the anodized ACFs was improved in order of B-ACFs > A-ACFs > pristine-ACFs. In case of the anodized treated ACFs, the specific surface area was decreased due to the pore blocking or pore destroying by acidic electrolyte. However, the anodic oxidation led to an increase of the Cr(VI) adsorption, which can be attributed to an increase of oxygen-containing functional groups, such as, carboxylic, lactonic, and phenolic groups. It was clearly found that the Cr(VI) adsorption was largely influenced by the surface functional groups, in spite of the reduced specific surface area of the ACFs.
PURPOSE. The aim was to evaluate the effect of curing mode and different dentin surface pretreatment on microtensile bond strength (${\mu}TBS$) of self-adhesive resin cements. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty-six extracted human permanent molars were sectioned horizontally exposing flat dentin surface. The teeth were divided into 12 groups (3 teeth/group) according to the dentin surface pretreatment methods (control, 18% EDTA, 10% Polyacrylic acid) and curing mode (self-curing vs. light-curing) of cement. After pretreatment, composite resin blocks were cemented with the following: (a) G-CEM LinkAce; (b) RelyX U200, followed by either self-curing or light-curing. After storage, the teeth were sectioned and ${\mu}TBS$ test was performed using a microtensile testing machine. The data was statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA, Student T-test and Scheffe's post-hoc test at P<.05 level. RESULTS. For G-CEM LinkAce cement groups, polyacrylic acid pretreatment showed the highest ${\mu}TBS$ in the self-cured group. In the light-cured group, no significant improvements were observed according to the dentin surface pretreatment. There were no significant differences between curing modes. Both dentin surface pretreatment methods helped to increase the ${\mu}TBS$ of RelyX U200 resin cement significantly and degree of pretreatment effect was similar. No significant differences were found regarding curing modes except control groups. In the comparisons of two self-adhesive resin cements, all groups within the same pretreatment and curing mode were significantly different excluding self-cured control groups. CONCLUSION. Selecting RelyX U200 used in this study and application of dentin surface pretreatment with EDTA and polyacrylic acid might be recommended to enhance the bond strength of cement to dentin.

Group 3(MD) : Samples bonded to dentin surface with Dyract after 10% maleic acid treatment. Group 4(BMD) : Samples bonded to dentin surface with Dyract after 10% maleic acid treatment and blood contamination. Group 5(PV) : Samples bonded to dentin surface with Variglass VLC after 10% phosphoric acid treatment. Group 6(BPV) : Samples bonded-to dentin surface with Variglass VLC after 10% phosphoric acid treatment and blood contamination. Group 1,3 and 5 were classified into the control groups, while group 2,4 and 6 were classified into the experimental groups. Each group contained 30 samples. After 24 hours water storage at $37^{\circ}C$, all smples were subjected to a shear load to fracture at a cross head speed of 1.0 mm/min with Instron universal testing machine(No. 4467). Debonded surfaces were observed under Scanning Electron Microscope(Hitachi S-2300) at 20kvp. The data were evaluated statistically at the 95% confidence level with Student's t-test. The following results obtained; 1. Shear bond strengths were higher in the control groups(1,3,5 group) than in the experimental groups(2,4,6 group). 2. The shear bond strength of group 5(PV) was the highest in the control groups, and the group 5 was significantly higher than the group l(GF) on the shear bond strength. 3. The group 4(BMD) was the highest on the shear bond strength, and the group 2(BGF) was the lowest in the experimental groups. The group 4(BMD) and 6(BPV) showed a significant difference with the group 2 on the shear bond strength. 4. All the groups showed an adhesive-cohesive failure. except the group 2(BGF) showing adhesive failure.
This study was conducted to find condition of improving the quality of peach by using surfacing washing system. The rate of weight loss of A,B groups were showed slower decreasing trend than CT group and the value of soluble solid degree was not different significantly among all groups from the results of stored peach treat with surface washing system of peach in the first experiment. The colory value of surface were increased with increasing storage period in all treatments. Browning pace of A,B groups were slower than control. Emission of carbon dioxide was increased from the results of respiration rate, 6-10 mL/kg/hr $(10^{\circ}C)$ and 32-41 mL/kg/hr $(25^{\circ}C)$. In second experiment with surface washing system of peach, the value of soluble solid was showed with similar value from 10 $Brix^{\circ}$ to 13 $Brix^{\circ}$. The pace of soft rot of EW groups were lower than CT groups from the results of hardness during storage period. The results of colory value was not showed with significant difference in $15^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ storage temperature but changed to browning in EW groups. The moisture contents was from 85% to 90% in all groups. And the count of total microorganism of EW groups were lower than control. Also total coliform of EW groups were negative. In sensory evaluation, washing peach was showed higher value with significant difference in all acceptability.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of various metal surface treatments on the shear bond strength between titanium denture base and relined resins. The surfaces of commercially pure(cp) titanium were sandblasted with $50{\mu}m$$Al_2O_3$ for 20 seconds and each group was treated with MR $Bond^{(R)}$, Alloy $Primer^{(R)}$, and Super-Bond $C&B^{(R)}$ accordingly. The specimens were completed by application of relining resins. The specimens were stored in room temperature. And the shear bond strength of the specimens were measured with the MTS universal testing $machine^{(R)}$. The results were as follows: 1. In comparison with the relining materials, $Kooliner^{(R)}$ groups showed statistically higher shear bond strength than Tokuyama Rebase $II^{(R)}$ groups(p<0.05). 2. Comparing shear bond strength, according to surface treatment, Super-bond $C&B^{(R)}$ groups showed the highest bond strength and were significantly higher than the other three groups(p<0.05). Alloy $Primer^{(R)}$ groups showed no significant difference with the MR $Bond^{(R)}$ groups, but was significantly higher than the sandblasting-only groups(p<0.05). 3. Comparing surface treatment in each groups, for two types of relining resin, the group which applies $Kooliner^{(R)}$ and Super-bond $C&B^{(R)}$ showed the highest bond strength and showed significant difference compared to the other groups(p<0.05). When using Tokuyama Rebase $II^{(R)}$, Super-bond C&B group showed the highest bond strength, but there were no significant difference compared to the Alloy $Primer^{(R)}$ group. In this limited study, applying $Kooliner^{(R)}$ and Super-Bond $C&B^{(R)}$ after sandblasting is considered to be advantageous for relining of titanium base dentures.

Statement of problem. Hydroxyapatite(HA) coated titanium surfaces have not yet showed the reliable osseointegration in various conditions. Purpose. This study was aimed to investigate microstructures, chemical composition, and surface roughness of the surface coated by the hydrothermal method and to evaluate the effect of hydrothermal coating on the cell attachment, as well as cell proliferation. Material and Methods. Commercially pure(c.p.) titanium discs were used as substrates. The HA coating on c.p. titanium discs by hydrothermal method was performed in 0.12M HCl solution mixed with HA(group I) and 0.1M NaOH solution mixed with HA(group II). GroupⅠ was heated at 180 $^{\circ}C$ for 24, 48, and 72 hours. GroupⅡ was heated at 180 $^{\circ}C$ for 12, 24, and 36 hours. And the treated surfaces were evaluated by Scanning electron microscopy(SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), X-ray diffraction method(XRD), Confocal laser scanning microscopy(CLSM). And SEM of fibroblast and 3-(4,5- dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide(MTT) assay were used for cellular responses of the treated surfaces. Results. The color of surface changed in both groups after the hydrothermal process. SEM images showed that coating pattern was homogeneous in group II, while inhomogeneous in group I. H72 had rosette-like precipitates. The crystalline structure grew gradually in group II, according to extending treatment period. The long needle-like crystals were prominent in N36. Calcium(Ca) and phosphorus(P) were not detected in H24 and H48 in EDS. In all specimens of group II and H72, Ca was found. Ca and P were identified in all treated groups through the analysis of XPS, but they were amorphous. Surface roughness did not increase in both groups after hydrothermal treatment. The values of surface roughness were not significantly different between groups I and II. According to the SEM images of fibroblasts, cell attachments were oriented and spread well in both treated groups, while they were not in the control group. However, no substantial amount of difference was found between groups I and II. Conclusions. In this study during the hydrothermal process procedure, coating characteristics, including the HA precipitates, crystal growth, and crystalline phases, were more satisfactory in NaOH treated group than in HCl treated group. Still, the biological responses of the modified surface by this method were not fully understood for the two tested groups did not differ significantly. Therefore, more continuous research on the relationship between the surface features and cellular responses seems to be in need.
