The grinding operation is an important machining process for machining of final surface. However. grinding process has inevitable troubles such as loading and glazing for grinding wheel. It is, therefore, an essential research theme to determine the wheel life and the dressing timefor efficient grinding. In this study, AE signals (AEavg) generated in thc grinding operation were measured and the dressing time was determined from the analysis of the AEavg value. To verify the propriety of the obtained result. the AE signals measured on the grinding and the dressing operation were compared with the grinding force signals and the dressing force which were measured at same time. From the obtained result, it was confirmed that the determination of the wheel life and the dressing time by the AE measurement technique proposed in this study can be practically used.
This study has been focused on properties of mirror surface grinding technology by ELID(Electrolytic In-process Dressing) for metal matrix ceramic composites using in high precision mirror for optics. The experimental studies have been carried out to get mirror surface by grinding for composites, Al-SiC, Al-graphite and Mg-SiC. Grinding process is carried out with varying abrasive mesh type, depth of cut and feed rate using diamond wheel. The machining result of the surface roughness and condition of ground surface, have been analyzed by use of surface roughness tester and SEM measurement system. ELID grinding technology could be applied successfully for the mirror-surface manufacturing processes in spite of ductility of metal matrix material. As the results of experiments, surface roughness of Al-SiC(45 wt%) has been the most superior in these experimental work-pieces as 0.021 ${\mu}m$ Ra.
The existent cutting insert have occupied most product of grinding style, because it has a problem of accuracy and manufacturing process. The product has a concept but development is difficult, because grinding and manufacturing by press are impossible. But by development and stabilization of a technology, preference of non-ground insert increases gradually. And then insert that grinding is impossible is developed availably as non-ground product by using developed equipment and software. In this paper reports some experimental results on the machining performance of non-ground Cutting inserts. Three kinds of Cutting inserts were manufactured without using grinding process. Machining experiments were carried out to compare the machining performance of non-ground inserts with that of ground ones. The experimental results indicate that the cutting forces and tool wear and surface roughnesses of machined surface of both ground and non-ground inserts are comparable.
During fabrication process for the large space optical surfaces, the traditional bound abrasive grinding with bronze bond cupped diamond wheel tools leaves the machine marks and the subsurface damage to be removed by subsequent loose abrasive lapping. We explored a new grinding technique for efficient quantitative control of precision CNC grinding for space optics materials such as Zerodur. The facility used is a NANOFORM-600 diamond turning machine with a custom grinding module and a range of resin bond diamond tools. The machining parameters such as grit number, tool rotation speed, work-piece rotation speed, depth of cut and feed rate were altered while grinding the work-piece surfaces of 20-100 mm in diameter. The input grinding variables and the resulting surface quality data were used to build grinding prediction models using empirical and multi-variable regression analysis methods. The effectiveness of the grinding prediction model was then examined by running a series of precision CNC grinding operation with a set of controlled input variables and predicted output surface quality indicators. The experiment details, the results and implications are presented.
Recently, with the development of semiconductor technology the miniaturization of products as well as parts and the products with high precision are being required. In addition as a national competitive power is increasingly effected by micro part development through micro machining and the secure of micro machining technology, the study of micro machining technology is being conducted in many countries. The goal of this study is to fabricate micro tool under the size of 30$\mu\textrm{m}$ and machine micro holes through micro tool fabrication by grinding, the application of ELID to grinding wheel and the measurement of surface roughness for micro tool.
Recently, Fine Ceramics have been concerned significantly with some excellent properties and many functions as new industrial materials to the industry at alrge. For the manufacture of Fine Ceramics, sintering is essential process. Thus the most of a Fine Ceramics used for precision parts are in need of machining proces. It is, however, very difficult to manufacture the Advanced Ceramics with high efficiency because they have not only high strength and brittl- eness but also high hardness. In present research, experiments are carried out to obtain the basic knowledge of Fine Ceramics grinding with high efficiency. Representative advanced ceramics, such as A1/sub 2/0/sub 3/, Z/sub r/O/sub 2/SiC snd Si/sub 2/N/sub 4/are ground with diamond wheels using conventional surface grinding machine. This research is carried out for the purpose of saving machining technology required for manufactiring Fine Ceramics parts
Grinding temperature between a grinding wheel and a workpiece surface, rising rapidly during a machining operation, has bad effects on a surface integrity such as the burning, the residual stress and the crack. In this study, the temperature distribution was obtained briefly by the finite element method and the grinding temperature of a workpiece varying with the grinding condition was measured experimentally. For obtaining the grinding temperature, a thermocouple method was applied. Three thermocouples were inserted in a surface of each workpiece. Changed grinding conditions were the depth of cuts, the feedrate, the dry and wet grinding, the up and down grinding and the number of pieces.
In this paper, Wire electric discharge grinding(WEDG) method for manufacturing the micro shaft was introduced and the machining characteristics was investigated. from the experimental results, it was concluded that high surface integrity could be obtained by use of dielectric fluid spraying method and small capacitive condenser.
In this study, experiments of high speed grinding had been earned out in a STD11 specimen for evaluating the grindability with designed CBN grinding wheels Ground surfaces were analyzed and evaluated by means of surface Integrities and wheel damages. The surface roughness and 3 dimensional profile had been used for analyzing the micro-surface integrity. The residual stress of the ground surface had been measured by the x-ray diffraction method. Also, the surface state of the ground specimens and the grinding wheels were evaluated by a metallurgical microscope and SEM system after high speed grinding in order to choose the suitable machining conditions.
