In this study, work materials of the ree form surface shape was machined by ball end mill cutter according to the change of cutting location and depth, and the acquired data of cutting force, tool deflection and shape accuracy were analyzed. Cutting force results were obtained with tool dynamometer and tool deflection values were measured by a couple of eddy-current sensors. Shape accuracy was obtained by roundness tester and surface profile measuring machine. As inclination angle was decreased, cutting force was increased. Cutting force showed large value at $105^{\circ}$ and $150^{\circ}$. Tool deflection was less at down milling than at up milling, decreased at 45$^{\circ}$ and 120$^{\circ}$, and shown large tool deflection at $150^{\circ}$. Roughness values were found to be bad in the inside of surface shape tool deflection. Surface accuracy was obtained better precision in down milling than in up milling.

End milling operation is very important in machining precision components. Deterioration of surface roughness and surface geometry will cause more process for surface finishing. According to the feed rate and the cutting edge geometry, the cusp which is geometrically uncut surface is determined. To reduce the cost for dinishing operation after end milling, the cusp must be remaianed in small size as possible. Due to the cylindrical type of the end mill, tool deflection is one of the main problems in surface generation. The cutting resistance and the rigidity of the end mill will determine the size of tool deflection. One more important factor which deteriorate surface quality comes from the error in manufacturing end mills. Run-out of end mill which is the difference of the radius of each cutting edges will produce the difference of the cusp size in every rotation of end mill. These three major factors to the surface quality will be analized and the result will be compared with experimental ressult.

A method for form error prediction in side wall machining with a flat end mill is suggested. Form error is predicted directly from the tool deflection without surface generation by cutting edge locus with time simulation. Developed model can predict the surface form error about three hundred times faster than the previous method. Cutting forces and tool deflection are calculated considering tool geometry, tool setting error and machine tool stiffness. The characteristics and the difference of generated surface shape in up milling and down milling are discussed. The usefulness of the presented method is verified from a set of experiments under various cutting conditions generally used in die and mold manufacturing. This study contributes to real time surface shape estimation and cutting process planning for the improvement of form accuracy.

This paper presents development of a practical tool deflection compensation system in order to reduce the machining error from the tool deflection compensation system in order to reduce the machining error from the tool deflection in the end-milling process. The devised system is a tool adapter which includes 1-axes force sensor for detecting tool deflection and 2-axes tool tilting device for adjusting tool position through computer interface on line process. Experimental in investigations for typical shaped workpieces representing various end milling situations are performed to verify the ability of the system to suppress the surface errors due to tool deflections. With the system, it is possible to get precise machining surface without any excessive machining error due to increased cutting force in more productive machining conditions.

In this study, the resilient modulus test and Light Weight Deflectormeter (LWD) test were conducted to simulate the moving vehicle load for the evaluation of the internal failure of epoxy asphalt pavement. The Measured displacement in the resilient modulus test of epoxy asphalt concrete showed very little residual deformation under repeated loads unlike the conventional asphalt. Therefore, the test results were evaluated as a normal state due to its similarity with elastic deformation. The deflection results from the resilient modulus tests were converted to the surface deflection modulus and the normal range of surface deflection modulus was estimated applying LWD measurement of 1 SIGMA level. Internal failure of pavements were estimated using the suspicious failure range at $60^{\circ}C$ and hysteresis. Internal moisture penetration and a decrease in bonding were observed in partial areas at $140{\mu}m$ of surface deflection. However, the areas showed inflection points in the hysteresis. Field investigation by suggested criterion indicated a high degree of accuracy.

Due to the development of the CNC machine tool and CAM software, sculptured surface machining can be broadly used in die and mold industries and ball end milling process is often used for the sculptured surface machining. It is found out how feedrate affects the precision of the machining and also tried to study the most suitable feedrate in specific cutting condition. Two eddy current sensors were used far measuring tool deflections of X, Y axis, dynamometer for cutting force and roundness tester for roundness. It was found that the tool deflection is getting better as tool path is going to further from the center of convex surface. The reason is that the cutting force is increased as the tool approaches to the center. Examining the roundness, cutting force and tool deflection characteristics, it was found that the most suitable feedrate is 90mm/min in convex surface and 120mm/min in concave surface.

With the contemporary CAD/CAM system, where the tool path is generated and verified purely based on the geometric operation, geometric accuracy of the machined surface cannot be guaranteed dut to the cutting mechanics, meaning that the cutting mechanics should be incorporated in some fashion. In this paper, we incorporate the instantaneous cutting force and the tool deflection phenomena in predicting the machined surface for the finish-cut and milling operation. For the given NC dat including cutting conditions, the developed algorithm computes cutting force and deflection amount along the tool trajectory, and outputs the 3D graphic model of the machined surface together with error analysis. The validity and accuracy of the presented method has been tested by the actual cutting experiments. Experimental results and accuracy enhancement method together with implementing architecture of the VMCS (Virtual Machining CAM System) are discussed in the paper.
An actuator should be added to a existing control linkage to make manned aircraft to unmanned. But it is quiet difficult to synchronize actuator with control surface because non-linear error necessarily occurs when four-bar linkage acts in three dimensional motion. In addition, in point of controller design view, while a real-time model needs the control surface deflection as its input, controller needs the actuator command as its output. Hence, the relation between both should be investigated. In this paper, the mathematical relation between actuator and control surface deflection investigated by kinematic analysis of a plant aircraft. The performance margin of the selected actuator also was verified.

Ball end milling process is widely used in the die and mould manufacturing because of suitableness for the machining of free form surface. But, as ball end mill is long and thin, it is easily deflected by cutting force. In this study, Cutting force, tool deflection and surface precision was measured according to the change of depth and cutting location. Cutting force was acquired with tool dynamometer and a couple of eddy-current sensor measured tool deflection in x-y direction each. After machining, surface precision was measured with roundness tester and coordination measuring machine for sculptured surface angle change and cutting depth.

In this paper, the prediction of cutting force and tool deflection in the ball-end milling process are studied. Identifying various cutting region using Z-map, cutting force in the ball-end milling process can be predicted. Cutting force deflects the tool and the tool deflection changes the cutting force. Tool deflection is included in the cutting force prediction. Tool deflecition also causes machining error of the machined surface. A series of experiments were performed to verify the simulated cutting force and machining error.
