  • Blasting methods are frequently used in case of forming slope artificially like slope cutting and open-cut method in the downtown area because of many economical and effective advantages. It is important that blasting work is carried out maintaining original strength of rock and not to damage rock face. And it is also considered that blasting method to decrease ground vibration is essential to the point of blast damages due to the ground vibration. In this study, to form a smooth plane of rock slope face, many trial blasts were carried out in this way that explosives were installed in detonating cord by equal interval in different charging method and stemming method. Using 4 blasting patterns in total 60 blast holes and 20 times of blasts were carried out. At the same time ground vibration measurements were carried out 15~102m away from the blast source, and total number of 310 data were obtained. Measured data for ground vibration velocity were analyzed so as to study blasting method to protect slope plane while decreasing blast vibration in an effective way.

  • The corrosion resistance of epoxy-coated carbon steel was evaluated. The carbon steel surface was subjected to different treatment methods such as steel grit blasting and power tool treatment as well as contamination of water soluble salt. To study the effect of the surface treatments and contamination, the topology of the treated surface was observed by confocal microscopy and a pull-off adhesion test was conducted. The corrosion resistance of the epoxy-coated carbon steel was further examined by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) combined with immersion test of 3.5 wt% of NaCl solution. Consequently, the surface contamination by sodium chloride with $16mg/m^2$, $48mg/m^2$ and $96mg/m^2$ didn't affect the adhesion strength for current epoxy coated carbon steel and blister and rust were not observed on the surface of epoxy coating contaminated by various concentration of sodium chloride after 20 weeks of immersion in 3.5 wt% NaCl aqueous solutions. In addition, the results of EIS test showed that the epoxy-coated carbon steel treated with steel grit blasting and power tool showed similar corrosion protection performance and surface cleanness such as Sa 3 and Sa 2.5 didn't affect the corrosion protectiveness of epoxy coated carbon steel.

  • In this study, the blasting nozzle for surface treatment of the curved surface of parts in power plant industry was designed and the cleaning performance was examined through the compressible flow analysis. At this time, the outlet of the curved nozzle was designed as a curved surface along the surface of the part. After the nozzle was made by 3-D printing, the abrasive was sprayed on the surface of the cylindrical specimen and the cleaning performance test was performed. The effective cleaning area obtained after the analysis was similar to the size and shape of the effective cleaning area obtained after the experiment. From this, the validity and effectiveness of the curved nozzle design was confirmed.

  • This study examined the effects of the shear bond strength when the surface condition of the metal and zirconia, each being the lower structures, was different when determining the bond strength (metal group) of the metal lower structure with upper ceramics, and the shear bond strength (zirconia group) of zirconia lower structure with the upper ceramics in prosthetic appliances of metal-ceramic crown and zirconia-ceramic crowns. The metal groups were divided into a total of four groups: the group with no condition on the metal surface(NM), the group with sand-blasting(SM), the group with applied opaque ceramics(OM), and the group with applied opaque ceramics and sand-blasting(SOM). The zirconia groups were also separated into four groups: the group with no condition(NZ), the group with sand-blasting(SZ), the group treated with ZirLiner on the zirconia surface(LZ), and the group applied with ZirLiner along and sand-blasting(SLZ). To examine the effects on the shear bond strength according to the surface condition of each of the four metal and zirconia groups, SPSS was used to conduct one-way ANOVA. For metal-ceramic crowns, it would be best to apply opaque ceramics after sand-blasting on the surface of the metal, the lower structure. For zirconia-ceramic crowns, it is recommended to apply the ZirLiner after sand-blasting on the surface of zirconia, the lower structure.

  • In surface mining, it is very important to create a mining area for economical mining. This study examined the contribution of design factors on slope stability with different slope design and blasting conditions. The design factors were the properties of the rock, the slope angle and the bench height, and the blasting conditions were reflected at different explosive weight and distances. The safety factor of slope was calculated by shear strength reduction method through 3D modeling, and the contribution rate of rock slope was 94.8%, which is relatively higher than other design factors, slope angle 0.89%, bench height 0.58%, and blasting It is shown that it affects about 3.73%, and it can be seen that blasting at a close distance can affect the stability of the slope.

  • Micro fluid channels are machined on quartz glass using powder blasting, and the machining characteristics of the channels are experimentally evaluated. The powder blasting process parameters such as injection pressure, abrasive particle size and density, stand-off distance, number of nozzle scanning, and shape/size of the required patterns affect machining results. In this study, the influence of the number of nozzle scanning, abrasive particle size, and blasting pressure on the formation of micro channels is investigated. Machined shapes and surface roughness are measured, and the results are discussed. Through the experiments and analysis, LOC are ettectinely machined on quartz glass using powder blasting.

  • The types of eletric detonators manufactured in korea include instantaneous, decisecond and millisecond delays but number of delay intervals are only limited from No. 1 to No. 20 respectively. It is not sufficient to control accurately millisecond time with these detonators in large surface blasting. But nonelectric system detonators with an unlimited delay time are recently obtained. In this paper the effect of delay time of nonelectric detonator on the level of vibration in surface blasting was studied. A total of 169 data were recorded in the studied area. Blast point-to-measuring point distances ranged from 25 to 100 meter, where charge weight was 1.26 kg per delay.

  • The effect of the surface activation treatment on the crystallization of the amorphous silicon film was investigated. The amorphous silicon film was deposited on the silica substrate with LPCVD technique. Wet blasting with silica slurry or exposure with Nd:YAG laser beam was applied on the amorphous silicon film before annealing for the crystallization. For the analysis of the crystallinity, XRD, Raman, and SEM were employed. In this investigation, the prior surface activation treatment like silica wet blasting or Nd:YAG laser beam exposure before annealing for the crystallization were found to be effective in the enhancement of the crystallization. It is believed that these treatment lower the activation energy required for the crystallization of the amorphous silicon film.

  • There are two major types of underwater blasting at Korea, bridges and harbor construction work. Pier blasting for lay the foundation bridges construction is used dry excavation working (drilling and charging) after pump out water and then fire pump in water that is same as bench blasting. In contrast, underwater blasting for harbor construction and increase of harbor load depth is used to barge with digging equipment that is in oder to drilling on the surface and blasting work(charge, hook-up) under water. Thus, there are need to special concern such as charge method and hook-up method different from tunnel blasting work and bench blasting work. If do not use special concern breaks out dead pressure and mis fire because of there are so many difficult condition such as water pressure, obstruct field of vision. In this study underwater blasting at Busan Harbor Construction have consider with special concern that is plastic pipe charge method used to MegaMITE I and specialized buoy hook- up method make far initial system detonate on the surface used to TLD. The results is designed blast pattern charge per delay effect an inspection of verify between predict velocity and measure velocity. minimized break out mis fire consideration charge method, hook up method. According to result best underwater blasting design is 105mm drilling dia, MeGAMITE II, HiNLL Plus(non electric detonator).

  • In this study, the machinability of sapphire glass is tested using the powder blasting method under various blasting conditions. The thickness and diameter of the sapphire glass samples were 0.4 mm and 50.8 mm (2 inch), respectively. The machined patterns from each sample were a circle, a square, and a rectangle. The powder we used was GC #400 and #800. The blasting pressures of the powders were 2, 4, and 6 bar. The scanning time of the nozzle was 20 and the scanning speeds of the nozzle were 80, 100, and 120 mm/s. Experimental results showed that machining depths increased in proportion to blasting pressure. The machining depth of GC #800 was much higher than that of GC #400, while surface roughness was worst with GC #400. These results imply that the blasting pressure and size of the blasting powder are the most important parameters for machining sapphire glass.
