A higher order zig-zag plate theory is developed to accurately predict fully coupled mechanical, thermal, and electric behaviors. Both the in-plane displacement and temperature fields through the thickness are constructed by superimposing linear zig-zag field to the smooth globally cubic varying field. Smooth parabolic distribution through the thickness is assumed in the transverse deflection in order to consider transverse normal deformation. Linear zig-zag form is adopted in the electric field. The layer-dependent degrees of freedom of displacement and temperature fields are expressed in tern-is of reference primary degrees of freedom by applying interface continuity conditions as well as bounding surface conditions of transverse shear stresses and transverse heat flux. The numerical examples of coupled and uncoupled analysis demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the present theory. The present theory is suitable for the predictions of fully coupled behaviors of thick smart composite plate under mechanical, thermal, and electric loadings combined.
Ligand-receptor clustering event is the most important step in leukocyte adhesion and spreading on endothelial cells. Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) has been shown to enhance leukocyte adhesion, but the molecular event during the process of adhesion is unclear. To visualize the dynamics of ICAM-1 movement during adhesion, we have engineered stable Chinese hamster ovary cell lines expressing ICAM-1 fused to a green fluorescent protein (IC1_GFP/CHO) and examined them under the fluorescence microscopy. The transfection of IC1_GFP alone in these cells was sufficient to support the adhesion of K562 cells that express $\alpha$L$\beta$2 (LFA-1) integrin stimulated by CBR LFA-1/2 mAb. This phenomenon was mediated by ICAM-1-LFA-1 interactions, as an mAb that specifically inhibits ICAM-1-LFA-1 interaction (RRl/l) completely abolished the adhesion of LFA-1* cells to IC1_ GFP/CHO cells. We found that the characteristic of adhesion was followed almost immediately (~10 min) by the rapid accumulation of ICAM-1 on CHO cells at a tight interface between the two cells. Interestingly, ICI_GFP/CHO cells projected plasma membrane and encircled approximately half surface of LFA-1+ cells, as defined by confocal microscopy. This unusual phenomenon was also confirmed on HUVEC after adhesion of LFA-1* cells. Neither cytochalasin D nor 2,3-butanedione 2-monoxime an inhibitor of myosin light chain kinase blocked LFA-1-mediated ICAM-1 clustering, indicating that actin cytoskeleton and myosin-dependent contractility are not necessary for ICAM-1 clustering. Taken together, we suggest that leukocyte adhesion to endothelial cells induces specialized form of ICAM-1 clustering that is distinct from immunological synapse mediated by T cell interaction with antigen presenting cells.
In preparative anti-corrosive coating experiments, polyaniline was obtained by reacting an oxidizing agent with the monomer aniline. Further, the primer coating was prepared using a variety of widely-used materials such as urethane resin. For the top coating, epoxy resin and acrylic urethane resin were used. Characteristics of the coatings were assessed according to KS and ASTM specifications, and the structure of the polyaniline was characterized using FT-IR and TGA. For analysis of anti-corrosive properties in salt-spray experiments, measurements of the oxidation state of iron and surface atomic analysis were conducted using XPS and SEM-EDX. Unlike general anti-corrosive coatings which exhibit anti-corrosive effects only as a primer coating, the anti-corrosive coatings using polyaniline as the anti-corrosive pigment showed a marked synergistic effect with the top coatings. In other words, the top coatings not only produce a fine view effect, but also increase, through interaction with the primer coatings, the resistance to diffusion of corrosive factors from the external environment. It was also found that, unlike the heavy metal oxide-forming layer of the passive barrier alone, the polyaniline anti-corrosive pigment oxidized iron at the interface with the iron substrate to form a passive barrier in the oxidic layer, and itself formed a potential barrier layer with anti-corrosive factors from the external environment. Although the passive layer was damaged, the damaged area did not become completely oxidized iron; on the contrary, it showed a tendency to reduction. This can be interpreted such that a passive layer is formed again on the damaged area, and that at the same time there is a tendency to self-healing.
In this study, we have investigated the effect of the substrate temperature on the structural and the electrical characteristics of IZO thin films for the OLED (organic light emitting diodes) devices. For this purpose, IZO thin films were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering under various substrate temperature. The substrate temperature has been changed from room temperature to $400^{\circ}C$. Samples which were deposited under $250^{\circ}C$ show amorphous structure. The electrical resistivity of crystalline-IZO (c-IZO) film was higher than that of amorphous-IZO (a-IZO) film. And the electrical resistivity showed minimum value near $150^{\circ}C$ of deposition temperature. The OLED device was fabricated with different IZO substrates made by configuration of IZO/$\acute{a}$-NPD/DPVB/$Alq_3$/LiF/Al to elucidate the performance of IZO substrate. OLED devices with the amorphous-IZO (a-IZO) anode film show better current density-voltage-luminance characteristics than that of OLED devices with the commercial crystalline-ITO (c-ITO) anode film. It can be explained that very flat surface roughness and high work function of a-IZO anode film lead to more efficient hole injection by reduction of interface barrier height between anode and organic layers. This suggests that a-IZO film is a promising anode materials substituting conventional c-ITO anode in OLED devices.
Objective: The sinus floor elevation procedures have been used to facilitate implant placement in the severely atrophic posterior maxilla. Many variables may have an influence on the outcomes of the sinus floor elevation in combination with implant treatment. The aim of this study was to analyze survival rate of implants placed in the edentulous maxillae of patients in whom sinus floor elevation was undertaken according to variables. Materials and Methods: It consisted of 96 patients(50 male and 46 female), ranging in age from 31 to 70 years(mean 49 years), who underwent sinus floor elevation procedure(94 implants in left side and 106 implants in right side) from 2001 to 2002. A total of 200 implants were placed in the grafted sinus(73 implants in lateral approach and 127 implants in crestal approach). All implants were restored by fixed prosthesis. All patients were healthy. Follow-up periods for implants were between 48 to 60 months. Results: The cumulative survival rate of implants was 91.5%. Gender, age and operation site did not have an influence on the survival rate. There was statistically significant differences for the implants which placed in less than 4 or 5 rom residual bone height, the survival rate was 60%, 81.4% respectively (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference of implants survival rate ac- cording to approach technique. The survival rate for 100% autogenous bone grafts was lower with respect to composite grafts containing autogenous bone and 100% substitutes. The survival rate for hydroxyapatite-coated implants was statistically significant lower than other textured group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Residual bone height, surface texture and graft materials have an influence on the survival rate. To use autogenous bone as a part of a composite bone replacement, implant texture which leads to more favorable implant-bone interface were necessary. To determine residual bone height for initial implant stability was important.

The purpose of this study was to compare the microleakage pattern of glass ionomer with resin restoration in microleakage pattern of primary and permanent teeth. Microscopical observation of interface between tooth structure and restoration was also performed. 80 and 8 sound molar teeth were used for the microleakage test and SEM study respectively. Data were analyzed statistically using ANOVA test and/or t-Test. The results of the present study were as follows: 1. According to the result of microleakage pattern between primary and permanent tooth, primary tooth generally showed more micro leakage than permanent tooth in all groups (p<.05). 2. In the resin-filled groups, occlusal margin was shown to have more microleakage than gingival margin(p<.05). Whereas the glass ionomer-filled groups showed no statistically significant differences between them(p>.05). 3. No statistically significant differences in microleakage could be found between two different resin groups(p>.05), while Fuji II LC group showed less microleakage than Ketac-Fil group(p>.05). 4. The various type hybrid layer was evident under SEM in resin-filled groups both in primary and permanent teeth with generally thicker layer in primary group. Among glass-ionomer group, Fuji II LC group showed more intact adhesion to tooth surface than Ketac-Fil group
The crystallization behaviours of cordierite gel derived from sol-gel method and glass prepared from conventional melting method with or without $TiO_2$ as nucleants are compared. The densification temperature of gel is $810^{\circ}C$ and its chemical structure identified by IR analysis is same as that of glass melted by conventional method. The beginning crystallization temperature of gel is $965^{\circ}C$ lower than that of melted glass with 10wt% $TiO_2$, which is $978^{\circ}C$. The crystalline phases developed from gel during heat treatment are identified as spinel, $\beta$-quartz solid solution and $\alpha$-cordierite crystal and crystalline phases in case of glass are (Mg,Al)TiOn and $\beta$-quartz solid solution and $\alpha$-cordierite crystal, respectively. The crystallization in melted glass with nucleants occurs through bulk crystallization and in case of that without nucleants surface crystallization occurs, while the crystallization in gel is internal crystallization from interface between particles formed after densification.
Asymmetric PVDF membranes were prepared by the phase inversion from casting solutions containing PVDF, NMP as solvent and 1,4-dioxane, DGDE, acetone, or GBL as additives by immersing them in water. The effects of various additives on the casting solution properties, permeation properties, and membrane structures were investigated. Low miscibility of 1,4-dioxane, DGDE and acetone with the coagulant (water) compared with NMP resulted in reducing the membrane pore size. When DGDE is used as an additive, the pore size was reduced because of its incipient sharp interface formation in the water. GBL increased membrane pore size because of its polarity compared to that of NMP. The PVDF membranes with various pore sizes could be obtained by controlling the amount of additive. The effect of mixed solvent (aqueous and non-aqueous solution) on permeation through membrane was investigated. Not only solution viscosity but surface tension affected solvent permeation.
In this study, we have investigated the effect of the ambient gases on the characteristics of IZO thin films for the OLED (organic light emitting diodes) devices. For this purpose, IZO thin films were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering under various ambient gases (Ar, $Ar+O_2$ and $Ar+H_2$) at $150^{\circ}C$. In order to investigate the influences of the oxygen and hydrogen, the flow rate of oxygen and hydrogen in argon mixing gas has been changed from 0.1sccm to 0.5sccm, respectively. All the samples show amorphous structure regardless of ambient gases. The electrical resistivity of IZO film increased with increasing flow rate of $O_2$ under $Ar+O_2$ while under $Ar+H_2$ atmosphere the electrical resistivity showed minimum value near 0.5sccm of $H_2$. All the films showed the average transmittance over 85% in the visible range. The OLED device was fabricated with different IZO substrates made by configuration of IZO/${\alpha}$-NPD/DPVB/$Alq_3$/LiF/Al to elucidate the performance of IZO substrate. OLED devices with the amorphous-IZO (a-IZO) anode film show better current densityvoltage-luminance characteristics than that of OLED devices with the commercial crystalline-ITO (c-ITO) anode film. It can be explained that very flat surface roughness and high work function of a-IZO anode film lead to more efficient hole injection by reduction of interface barrier height between anode and organic layers. This suggests that a-IZO film is a promising anode materials substituting conventional c-ITO anode in OLED devices.
In this study, we have systematically investigated the effect of sputtering conditions on the microstructural properties of Ag/CoFeB thin film on MgO substrate. It was found that the crystallinity and surface roughness of the Ag film strongly depends on the Ar sputtering pressure and sputtering power. Epitaxial growth of Ag(100) film on MgO(100) substrate was achieved under the sputtering conditions of high sputtering power and elevated temperature. XRR (X-ray reflectivity) and high-resolution TEM (transmission electron microscopy) measurements also revealed the interfacial roughening in the Ag/CoFeB interface due to the island structure formation and intermixing between Ag and CoFeB.
