다수성이고 발근력이 강한 뽕품종 ′밀성뽕′육성 (Breeding of High Yielding and Easily Rootable Mulberry Cultivar ′Milsungppong′(Morus bombycis KOIDZ))

  • New Mulberry Cultivar, Milsungppong, was selected from F1 seedlings obtained by crossing the female, 4X Keomseolppong, and the male, Kaeryangppong. Local adaptability test has been carried out at five places(Suwon, Chunchun, Cheongju, Kongju and Sangju) for four years since 1992. Leaf quality was tested by silkworm rearing for two silkworm rearing seasons(spring and autumn) at Suwon in 1995. From these tests, Milsungppong was found to be superior to control cultivar, cultivar, Kaeryangppong, in productivity, rootability and shoot cold injury. The new cultivar, Milsungppong, has following agronomic characteristics as compared with Kaeryangppong, the most prevailing cultivar, Milsungppong, has following agronomic characteristics as compared with Kaeryangppong, the most prevailing cultivar in Korea It is triploid cultivar belonging to Morus bombycis KOIDZ with the leaf shape of five lobes, sprouting in spring nearly the same to the Kaeryangppong (Morus alba L.), high leaf yielding of 25% compared to Kaeryangppong (Morus alba L.) and the medium degree of cold resistance. It is adaptable to every where in Korea except the area cold injury broken out habitually. Milsungppong is recommended to rear silkworms not only in spring but also in autumn besides for young silkworms.

갓이 백색인 느타리 신품종 '세나'의 육성 및 특성 (Breeding and characterization of a new white cultivar of Pleurotus ostreatus, 'Sena')

  • 국내에서 많이 재배되는 버섯 품목 중 하나인 느타리는 병재배 자동생산 시스템이 개발되면서 대량생산이 가능해졌다. 그러나, 생산량이 과잉되며 소비가 줄어들면서 농가에서는 다양한 품목과 품종의 버섯을 요구하고 있다. 이에 갓이 백색이면서 수량이 높고 품질이 우수한 느타리 품종 '세나'를 개발하였다. 국립원예특작과학원 버섯과에서 보유중인 유전자원 중 기존 백색느타리 품종인 '고니'와 '미소'를 선발하여 포자 간 교잡을 통해 계통을 육성하고 재배시험과 특성평가를 통해 최종 우량계통을 선발하였다. '세나' 품종의 균사생장 적온은 25~30℃이고, 버섯생육 적온은 14~18℃이며 다발 형태로 생육하고 갓은 백색이며 얕은 깔때기 형태이다. 균사 생장은 맥아한천배지(MEA)에서 가장 우수하고 30℃ 이상의 고온에서는 생장하지 않았다. 1,100cc 병재배 시 유효경수는 약 35개로 대조품종 '고니' 16개보다 많았으며, 수량도 약 157 g으로 24% 증수됨을 확인하였다. 수확된 버섯 300 g을 간이 포장하여 4℃ 저온저장고에서 28일 간 저장했을 때, 중량 감모율은 약 4.22%로 대조품종보다 낮았으며, 백색도 변화값도 갓, 대가 각각 6.99, 8.33으로 대조품종보다 낮았다. 갓이 백색으로 육안으로 보이는 품질 또한 중요하기 때문에, 대조품종 '고니'에 비해 '세나' 품종이 저온 저장을 거쳤을 때 중량과 품질 측면에서 모두 우수함을 확인하였다.

A New Potato Cultivar "Early Valley", with High Yield and Early Maturity

  • "Early Valley", is an early maturing potato cultivar with high yield potential. "Early Valley" is a clonal selection resulting from the cross between 'Suncrisp' and 'A87109-10'. It has medium plant height and light green foliage. "Early Valley" has medium flowering habit and white flowers. Tubers are smooth, yellow skin, light yellow flesh, round tuber shape, medium eye depth, and medium dormancy and good keeping quality. It has stable yield under wide range of climatic conditions. "Early Valley" is resistance to late blight, but moderately susceptible to common scab and hollow heart. This cultivar is also resistant to potato rotting at harvesting during the raining season. "Early Valley" has high level of antioxidant activity (about three times higher) and vitamin C (higher by 40%) than the 'Superior'. This cultivar has high level of tuber uniformity and capable of yielding 36.56 t/ha which is 17.07% higher than the control potato cultivar 'Superior' under optimum agronomical practices.

Growth Characteristics and Chemical Compounds in Schisandra chinensis Collections for the Selection of Superior Lines

  • There are about 2 genera and 49 species of Schisandraceae all over the world which grow 2 genera and 5 species in korea. As'Schisandra'genus, S. chinensis, S. repanda, S. nigra and S. viridicarpa are distributed. As 'Kadsura' genus, there is K. japonica species. Although S. chinensis is often used for food and herbal medicine, 'Cheongsoon'is the only cultivar in korea. Therefore cultivar breeding is required for standardized production of Schisandra chinensis. To select superior lines, characteristics of collected varieties was investigated. These collections were from all the country including Mungyeong, Muju and Jangsu. In the case of 'Schisandra chinensis', analysis of chemical compound is very important. Because in 'Korean Pharmacopoeia', Schisandrin has to contain more than 0.7% of sum of Shizandrin, Gomisin A, Gomisin N as standard compound. According to the investigation, the weight of SC-154 was the highest one that was 99g of fresh fruit and 60g of dried fruit in the 100 granulas of it. As the control group, the weight of cultivar 'Cheongsoon'was 57g of fresh fruit and 40g of dried fruit. The chemical compounds such as Shizandrin A, Gomisin A, Gomisin N and Shizandrin C from the collections were analyzed by HPLC. As a result, all average of total content was 1.67% satisfied with the standard that is over 0.7%. Among them, SC-13, SC-22, SC-40 and SC-45 had more than 2.0% of compound. In this case, the content of Gomisin N was relatively higher than that of the other collections. It can be used for high content compound breeding. This above results indicate that these findings could be used for breeding superior Schisandra chinensis through selection of high quality resource.

고추냉이 품종별 생육 및 Allylisothiocyanate 함량 변이 (Variation of Growth and Allylisothiocyanate contents of Wasabia japonica Matsum. Cultivar)

  • 고추냉이 품종의 생육 및 수량성을 검정하기 위하여 대왕(大王) 1호, 달마종, 도근재래(島根在來) 등 3품종을 공시하여 철원에서 물 재배한 결과 시험에 사용된 용수의 수질은 일본의 주산지인 정강(靜岡)와 비슷하였으며, 품종별로는 실생 번식용품종인 달마종은 지상부 및 근경의 관련 형질에서 변이폭이 적었으나 영양 번식용 품종인 도근재래(島根在來)는 변이폭이 컸다. 고추냉이의 부위별 건물율은 품종에 관계없이 근경>분지경>엽>엽병 순서이었고, 근경의 건물율과 allylisothiocyanate 함량은 비례하였다. 고추냉이의 수량과 근경의 신미 성분 함량과의 상관은 없었으며 품종별 allylisothiocyanate 함량은 달마종>도근재래(島根在來)>대왕(大王) 1호 순서이었다.

  • Genetic improvement in potato can be carried out through several approaches, as sexual crosses, somatic hybridization, mutation and genetic engineering. Although the approach is different, but the goal is the same, to get a superior cultivar. Mutation and genetic engineering are very interesting methods for genetic improvement of potato plants. Mutation by gamma-ray irradiation have been performed to get some new potato cultivars which are more resistant to disease and have higher productivity. We have carried out a mutation of some potato cultivars and obtained some excellent clones to be potentially released as new superior cultivars. By the mutation method, we have released one potato cultivar for the French fries industry, and we registered one cultivar of potato for chips, and two cultivar for vegetable potatoes. Actually we are doing multi-location trial for three clones to be released as new cultivars. Through genetic engineering, several genes have been introduced into the potato plant, and we obtained several clones of transgenic potato plants. Transgenic potato plants containing FBPase gene encoding for fructose bisphosphatase, have a higher rate of photosynthesis and higher tuber productivity than non-transgenic plants. This result suggests that FBPase plays an important role in increasing the rate of photosynthesis and potato tuber productivity. Some transgenic potatoes containing the Hd3a gene are currently being evaluated for their productivity. Over expression of the Hd3a gene is expected to increase tuber productivity and induce flowering in potatoes. Transgenic potato plants containing MmPMA gene encoding for plasma membrane ATPse are more tolerant to low pH than non-transgenic plants, indicating that plasma membrane ATPase plays an important role in the potato plant tolerance to low pH stress. Transgenic potato plants containing c-lysozyme genes, are highly tolerant of bacterial wilt diseases caused by Ralstonia solanacearum and bacterial soft rot disease caused by Pectobacterium carotovorum. Expression of c-lyzozyme gene plays an important role in increasing the resistance of potato plants to bacterial diseases.

  • "Konhee" zoysiagrass[Zoysia matrella (L) Merr.](Patent registration no. 2000-723), a vegetative cultivar, was developed by the Dept. of Horticultural Science, Konkuk University, Seoul. "Konhee" was selected from the cross, ZKV6$\times$ZKV10, in 1997 and F1 seed were produced in the greenhouse in 1996. "Konhee" is superior to the other fine leaf zoysiagrass lines in many traits such as erect type, plant height($8.5\pm$2.0cm), short 3rd stolon length($3.4\pm$0.5cm), dark green, fine leaf($2.3\pm$0.2mm), low first sheath height($0.9\pm$0.2cm), rapid establishment and recoverage, many stolon number, and high shoot density. When "Konhee" was compared to the five other zoysisagrass lines at the DNA level using 35 PCR primers, it had the specific bands with primer No. 740, 544, 765, 772 by RAPD analysis.No. 740, 544, 765, 772 by RAPD analysis.

The Superior Tree Breeding of Rubus coreanus Miq. Cultivar 'Jungkeum' for High Productivity in Korea

  • This study was conducted to selected Korean black raspberry (Rubus coreanus Miq.) for high productivity. The eight major agronomic traits were investigated from 198 clones of the clone bank established in Korea Forest Research Institute, Suwon, Korea. The selection levels based on number of fruit per fructify lateral (NFFL) over 20, and fruit weight (FW) over 1.3g, and yield of individual per fructify lateral (YIFL) over 25g, were applied on 198 clones, resulted in 17 clones selected. The selected superior trees, 17 clones, appeared regional differences for amount of fruiting among 4 different test sites. When number of fruit per fruit petiole (NRFP), fruit weight (FW), yield of individual (YI) and sugar content were satisfied over 20, 1.4g, 6kg and 9.5 brix, respectively, as a select condition, 5 clones were reselected as the superior trees among 17 clones. for 3 years.

새로 육성한 다수성 뽕품종 '신성뽕' 특성 (Characteristics of Newly Bred Mulberry Cultivar 'Shinsungppong' (Morus alba L.) for Leaf Production)

  • 잠상 131호를 수원, 공주와 진주 3개 지역에서 수행한 지역적응시험 결과, 수량성이 높고 엽질 등이 우수하여 2004년 신성뽕으로 명명하여 장려품종으로 지정하였으며 그 주요 특성은 다음과 같다. 1. 백상형(Morus alba L.)에 속하는 암나무이며, 낮추베기 한 때의 자세는 직립성이고, 가지는 곧으며 마디길이는 다소 긴 편이다. 2. 발아기는 중뽕이며, 낮추베기 한때의 수형은 직립성이고 잎은 중형이고, 잎두께는 약간 두꺼우며, 원엽이 많으며 3-5열엽이 혼재되어 있다. 3. 상일뽕에 비하여 가지수와 평균가지 길이 및 가지사이길이는 많고 길며, 가지굵기는 비슷한 수준을 나타내었다. 4. 연간 뽕 수량은 상밀뽕보다 7% 많으며, 사료가치는 상일뽕과 같은 수준으로 비교적 우량하다. 5. 병에 강한 품종인 상일뽕과 마찬가지로 오갈병, 줄기마름병과 축엽세균병에 강한 저항성 품종이다. 6. 춘추잠기 겸용 큰누에용 뽕으로 동해상습지를 제외한 전국에 재배할 수 있다.
