To experimentally investigate the several wave patterns for the horizontal countercurrent stratified air-water flow, a series of systematic experimental studies have been performed. The experiments are carried out in a horizontal pipe with 4m in length and 102mm in inner diameter. The oater and air superficial velocities vary from 0.0004 to 0.0204 and from 0 to 6m/s, respectively. The instantaneous water thickness is measured by parallel-wire conductance probes, and the wave field is recorded by high speed video camera. Also, to evaluate the wave effect on interfacial friction factor, the pressure drop is measured. Statistical data anal)sis is accomplished in order to obtain the fundamental wave parameters such as un amplitude, length and velocity, and spatial growth factor. By using these statistical parameters, the wave regime boundaries can be verified.

Experiments were conducted to evaluate a experimental model developed for the protein removal by foam separation. The foam separator was operated in well-mixed tank which would be considered as a completely mixed condition. The feasibility of foam separation to remove protein from sea water was investigated. Protein removal characteristics of the foam separator were obtained by batch experiments. To find the effect of the operating parameter to protein removal rate, the foam separation was carried with variation of initial protein concentration and superficial air velocity. The result indicated that the protein removal efficiency was increased with increasing protein concentration and superficial air velocity. The relationship between operation parameters and protein removal rate were evaluated by non-linear regression as the form of exponential function, Using both relationships, the simplified model was determined. The simplified foam separator operation model was verified by the batch operation. The simulation results showed a good relationship with the experimental data.
Hydrodynamics and mixing characteristics such as circulation time, mixing time, circulation velocity and axial dispersion coefficient were investigated using highly viscous pseudoplastic solutions of carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC) in an external circulation loop air-lift reactor with 13$\ell$ working volume. The superficial gas velocity was changed from 1.9 to 6.2cm/s and CMC concentration from 0 to 1.0wt%. The theoretical model based on the pressure balance is developed mathematically to predict liquid circulation velocity. Gas hold-up, circulation velocity and axial dispersion coefficient of liquid phase increased with increasing gas velocity and decreased slightly with increasing liquid viscosity. Mixing time and circulation time decreased with increasing gas velocity and increased with increasing liquid viscosity. Experimental data on liquid circulation velocity were in good agreement with the predicted values.
This study was conducted to evaluate the treatment efficiency including reaction kinetics and hydraulic characteristics of food processing wastewater by using an ejector-type aeration system (ETAS) in activated sludge process. The oxygen transfer efficiency in ETAS can be changed in accordance with the depth of reactor. However, the optimum air velocity was found less than 1.82 m/hr at a superficial liquid velocity of 634 m/hr. The ETAS process showed higher organic material removal efficiency than that of the existing activated sludge process under hydraulic detention time 6 to 12 hours. This process, which can maintain MLVSS highly, is able to have high organic material removal efficiency at short HRT and deal with variable organic material loading.

Phase Doppler particle analyze. (PDPA) is a instrument which can be used to obtain simultaneous size and velocity measurements in a multiphase flow. In this study, the size of the water droplets entrained from a bubbling surface of a stagnant liquid column is measured by PDPA with a specially designed transmitter of long focal length and large beam diameter. The test section tube is made of acryle with 18 mm I.D. and 900 mm length. The experimental data are obtained for the air superficial velocity between 0.7 m/s to 3.4 m/s at atmospheric pressure. The experimental results show that there exists large difference in the entrainment mechanism between the churn-turbulent flow and annular flow. Through the present study, the phase Doppler analyzer system is shown to be successfully applied to measure particle sizes larger than $2,000\mu\textrm{m}$ if a transmitter of long focal length is utilized.

The transition from a statified wavy to a slug flow has been analyzed considering the mechanistic forces acting on the wave crest in a nearly horizontal air-water countercurrent flow. To verify the results of the analysis, a series of experiments have been performed changing the inclination angle of the test section. Comparisons of the theoretical predictions with experimental data show a good agreement and the results show that the present model gives similar results of Taitel and Dukler's in the case of inclined pipes. However, at high superficial liquid velocity, the results of present work agree more closely with data than that of Taitel and Dukler's. Also, predictions of the present model gives a very close agreement with the experimental data for various tube sizes obtained by others.
We performed the experiment to determine the effective factors, such as the initial concentration of protein, pore size of air distributor, SAV (superficial air velocity), pH, salts and temperature related to foaming characteristics. The foam height in a foam generator was increased with the increase of the initial protein concentration and the decrease of pore size. As SAV was increased, the foam height was increased, and the optimum SAV was 0.84 cm/sec. The foam height was highest in the acid region and it was increased with the increase of salt concentration of NaCl and $NaHCO_3.$ The removal efficiencies of TSS (total suspended solid) and turbidity decreased with the increase of the initial protein concentration in the batch foam separator.
A study of counter-current two-phase flow in narrow rectangular channels has been performed. Two-phase flow regimes were experimentally investigated in a 760mm long and 100mm wide test section with 2.0 and 5.0mm gap widths. The resulting flow regime maps were compared with the existing transition criteria. The experimental data and the transition criteria of the models showed relatively good agreement. However, the discrepancies between the experimental data and the model predictions of the flow regime transition become pronounced as the gap width increased. As the gap width increased the transition gas superficial velocities increased. The critical void fraction for the bubbly-to-slug transition was observed to be about 0.25. The two-phase distribution parameter for the slug flow was larger for the narrower channel. The uncertainties in the distribution parameter could lead to a disagreement in slug-to-churn transition between the experimental findings and the transition criteria. For the transition from churn to annular flow the effect of liquid superficial velocity was found to be insignificant.

Two phase flow phenomena are observed in many industrial facilities and make much importance of optimum design for nuclear power plant and various heat exchangers. This experimental study has been investigated the classification of the flow pattern, the local void distribution and convective heat transfer in swirl and non-swirl two phase flow under the isothermal and nonisothermal conditions. The convective heat transfer coefficients in the single phase water flow were measured and compared with the calculated results from the Sieder-Tate correlation. These coefficients were used for comparisons with the two-phase heat transfer coefficients in the flow orientations. The experimental results indicate, that the void probe signal and probability density function of void distribution can used into classify the flow patterns, no significant difference in voidage distribution was observed between isothermal and non-isothermal condition in non-swirl flow, the values of two phase heat transfer coefficients increase when superficial air velocities increase, and the enhancement of the values is observed to be most pronounced at the highest superficial water velocity in non-swirl flow. Also two phase heat transfer coefficients in swirl flow are increased when the twist ratios are decreased.

The objective of the present study is to investigate the dividing two-phase flow in a horizontal micro T-junction with the same rectangular cross section, $800\;{\mu}m{\times}800\;{\mu}m$, experimentally. Air and water were used as the test fluids. The superficial velocity ranges of air and water were 15~20 m/s and 0.11~0.2 m/s, respectively. Dividing flow characteristics at the micro T-junction are different from those at the larger T-junctions (5~10 mm in hydraulic diameter). Compared with the results of previous works related with the T-junction with mini cross sections (about 5 mm), for lower range of gas separation, the fraction of the liquid separated through the branch decreases for the fixed fraction of the gas separation. But for higher range of gas separation, higher liquid separation could be found.
